The unstoppable rise of Adobe Dreamweaver

by Andrew Whiteman

I work for a company that runs Dreamweaver training courses and we find that there is no longer a typical user of this great web development program. Dreamweaver users now seem to come from all different types of company and from all walks of life: private individuals, financial people, marketing people, people in the health service, academicians It seems everyone needs to learn the basics of web development nowadays.

Our conclusion is that the vast majority of people learning Dreamweaver nowadays are not specialists in web development or web design. They are simply people who need to develop web content in some shape or form and who have chosen or been recommended Dreamweaver as the best tool for the job. Dreamweaver is perceived as the obvious choice for both casual and professional web developers.

So how has Dreamweaver attained its enviable position as the industry standard web development software? And is this position deserved? The second question is easier to answer than the first, so let’s deal with that one first. The answer is “Yes”: Dreamweaver deserves its position because it is such an excellent piece of software and because it demystifies the whole business of web development and puts it within reach of so many people. As to how Dreamweaver got where it is, well it did so by evolving, responding to changes in the web arena and embracing new web technologies as they have come along.

In the early days of web development, there were two types of web development tool: those used by coders (the specialists who understood the technologies underlying web pages) and the visual software tools which functioned in a manner similar to word processing and page layout programs and were used by non-specialists and inexperienced web developers. The visual programs (which included Dreamweaver) had a very poor reputation among web professionals who found that the code produced by these programs was clumsy, verbose and inefficient.

With each release of Dreamweaver, Macromedia continued to add features which showed that they understood the need to create clean code even when using visual tools. They added features to the program for maintaining the integrity of code and removing redundant elements. They enhanced their coding environment with features like line numbering, code hints and the tag selector, a feature which displays the tag underlying the currently selected element and the hierarchy of tags in which the element is contained. They also added the ability to verify whether a web page contained code incompatible with certain browsers.

Macromedia also added a number of features aimed at speeding up web development which they knew would be attractive to serious web developers. For one thing, they offered a series of features which would automatically generate server-side content and save developers a great deal of programming time. Initially, these features were only available in a special edition of Dreamweaver called “Dreamweaver UltraDev”. When these features became available in the standard edition of Dreamweaver, the program became much more attractive to the serious web developer.

Macromedia further enhanced Dreamweaver’s reputation as a tool for serious web developers by added collaborative functionality to the program; features which acknowledged the fact that a lot of web developers are part of a team. Dreamweaver’s two main collaboration features are “File check in Check out” and “Design Notes”. The former allows developer A to open a file and check it out; so that developer B knows that the file is being worked on by A and doesn’t start making conflicting changes to the file. The design notes feature allows developer A to attach a note to a particular file which can then be picked up by developer B.

The web is constantly evolving and new technologies are being developed to make web sites more appealing to visitors. The owners of Dreamweaver have always been very good at embracing these new technologies sooner rather than later. An illustration of this can be seen in the latest version of Dreamweaver which includes a series of CSS layouts which can be used by newbie web developers to create pages which separate web content from information relating to the styling of that content. Dreamweaver also has useful features for making it easy to make your content accessible to web surfers with disabilities.

The latest Dreamweaver also includes some groovy new features which embrace the Ajax technology using the Adobe’s Spry Framework for Ajax, a library of automatically generated JavaScript code which allows the creation of interactive web page on which page content can be updated in response to user actions without the page having to be reloaded.

So, in short, Dreamweaver has all bases covered. Design-oriented web developers can use the program as a visual tool that generates reliable code. Experienced developers and programmers can work in code view and preview their work as required. Thus, the program makes web development approachable for just about any experienced computer user without dumbing down. This makes it deservedly the automatic choice for anyone who intends to become a web developer and needs a reliable software tool.

Tips For Reducing Your Interest Rates On Loans

by Chris Channing

Just like all other services and products we buy and interact with each day, a loan can be obtained for a lesser rate with a bit of perseverance and determination. The trick is finding different ways to affect one’s interest arte to manipulate it to a more reasonable form.

Good credit will obviously be necessary for a good interest rate, and some times will even be the deciding force that determines whether or not the loan is obtained in the first place. The difference between a good credit line and a poor credit history can mean as much as 10% or more in the overall interest rate- which could easily equate to many months of added debts.

Lower interest rates can also be obtained if there is less risk to the lender. Collateral is the easiest way to reduce the risk, in which case the borrower forfeits an item of value in the case he or she can’t repay the loan back on time. This can be anything from a piece of land, a vehicle, or even prized jewelry. Whichever the case, secured loans will always be dramatically cheaper than unsecured loans on average.

A bank is going to offer smaller interest rates for those that actually do business with them on a periodical basis. Banks that do not have access to the borrower’s checking or savings account will not be able to judge their “worth,” and thus, will be more likely to raise interest rates. The easy solution here is to try and get a loan from one’s own bank, as they will find that it is much friendlier and cheaper.

Taking advantage of technology can also equate to cheaper interest rates. An example would be social lending, which has been made popular by the Internet. Social lending allows normal citizens to act as lenders to others, although there will obviously be higher risks for both parties. The process of social lending can be so risky, in fact, that it is generally recommended as a last resort for those who have no alternatives.

Of course, one should never commit to an interest rate they aren’t sure is fair. Always check around with local lenders, but also check online banks and lending facilities. Banks will vary greatly on the interest rates they offer, as well as the terms of agreement and penalties. As such, careful consideration should be taken in the choosing process.

Closing Comments

Cheap loans will come via cheap interest rates. If you are in the market for a cheap loan, be sure to consult a few financial advisers about your unique situation. Be proactive about the situation, and you will be rewarded with possibly months of less debt than what you would experience otherwise.

Home Based Business? Why its Important to Consider One Now

by George L. Kenney

Having a home based business where you can earn a little extra money is always a good idea. Sometimes its more important than other times. I believe now is one of those times.

I have a degree in Economics and have been in the financial services arena for over twenty five years, and I’m seeing some disturbing trends. I truly believe we are facing some difficult economic times. Here are some of the reasons I feel this way.

The purchasing power of the dollar is consistently going down and will keep doing so as long as the government outspends what it brings in. Those on a fixed income or receiving an hourly wage will continue to fall behind because small incremental increases these areas will not keep pace with the dropping purchasing power of the dollar. Therefore, your standard of living is constantly going down.

The National Debt is rising and being passed to future generations. Since the government doesn’t have the money to pay for this debt, it is constantly borrowing it (or printing more) from the Treasury. This tends to accelerate the situation. There are always more and more dollars in circulation meaning that each dollar has less value.

The increased price of oil and other petrochemicals is here to stay. With the populations of countries like India and China beginning to drive and those countries producing low cost vehicles, the consumption of oil is on a continuous rise. This means high prices for the foreseeable future. Consider also that we have not built an oil refinery in the United States in over 25 years. This means that we face increased prices for goods which have anything to do with oil and/or natural gas. Can you think of anything that is not tied to them?

The bottom line is, your standard of living will continue to decline until you make the choice to do something about it. The “old” go to school, get an education, get a job, save as much as you can, retire on your savings, retirement plan, and social security mentality is NO LONGER a viable solution.

Most home based business opportunities give you a chance to get started with little out of pocket and a commitment on your part to put consistent time and effort into your business. You see its your choice, you can put your blinders on and pretend that everything is o.k. and eventually find yourself living in the lower economic class or even below the poverty line. Or you can wake up to the facts, realize what’s going on, and take steps to make your life better now and for the future.

Reverse Look Up By Phone Number Services – How To Run

by Davion W

Do you know a thing or two about how to reverse look up by phone number? The truth is, in today’s environment, hundreds of people get online at any point in time to run such searches.

If you intend to trace a certain set of numbers that is not familiar to you, you can take advantage of the various reverse lookup services that are widely advertised online. This technology is made possible by a reverse phone lookup directory or gray pages directory. This is a collection of telephone numbers and the customer details associated with them. Generally, this directory allows users to search and retrieve information regarding the customer through the telephone service line that is registered to them.

The earliest versions of services to reverse look up by phone number were accessed only by law enforcement agencies and emergency service providers to assist them in carrying out their functions. These databases were designed to determine the area or origin of any call requesting for assistance. These directories include listed or publicly accessible and unlisted or private telephone lines. Nevertheless, the early directories used to be restricted to internal agency users alone.

In today’s setting, there are many global telecommunications companies that make these readily available to customers. A lot of them either charge a fee or give their customers free access.

There are plenty of reasons why anyone would want to conduct a reverse look up by phone number. The first being to trace the calls to the pranksters and the second to research an unfamiliar phone number that appeared on your telephone bill. There are of course other reasons as well.

We did a check online and found that there are quite a number of such services online. Today, huge database companies set up sophisticated networks containing millions of telephone numbers include cellular and VoIP numbers. This allows you to run a lookup on any phone number to get to the owner. You will be able to get information like the full name, address, email address and so on.

Because of the number of companies that offer these reverse lookup services, prospective customers should be wary about some companies that can be considered as scam merchants. To be able to get your money’s worth, choose only a credible service provider.

Check out the following resource and find one such reliable service provider where you can run a reverse look up by phone number for a nominal fee.

Why Sales Training Is Necessary To Modern Companies

by John Read

New business development is the act of developing a person in the act of sales. Sales, which can be done individually or as part of a team, is where a person sells a goods or service to a buyer. It is usually thought that selling is the same as marketing but there is a distinct difference – marketing exists to endorse a product by making it attractive to a potential customer and, through this, may inactively produce a sale. On the other hand, a sales person actively speaks with a potential customer, demonstrating directly how their product or service can help the customer by providing them tailored information. The best sales agent is someone who works together with their customer and works to solve the customer’s wants and goals with the item or service to be sold.

Sales is an important part of contemporary work models. Not only does the sales person sell a corporate product or service, they also act to generate unique corporate prospects and generate buyers for their business, thereby sustaining and developing their company’s customer base and reputation. Sales is often the community face of a business so it necessary that correct sales training is provided to the sales person so that they can excel in their selling role but also know how to be the best believer possible for the product and the business.

There is a plethora of methods a corporation can employ to connect with their client. Direct sales – where the company deals directly with their client – is probably the most recognized. The most familiar direct selling methods are door-to-door selling and telemarketing; in both cases the corporation directly connects with the customer at home or at their place of business to inform them about the goods. Another way of direct selling is ‘consultative selling’ whereby the company deals directly with the buyer but first begins by asking the client about what products or services they need and developing solutions in consultation with the customer. Companies also traditionally sell products through retailers – so called ‘middle men‘ – and through mail order, while the rise of the web has given companies a new field in which to connect with prospective buyers. As can be seen, there is a large variety in the way companies contact, connect and potentially sell to a customer, which has increased the significance of sales development.

Sales training focuses on the range of approaches a sales person can use when directly interacting with the client, so integral in these days of direct selling. Although there are a range of particular techniques tailored for different varieties of selling, the main thought behind outstanding sales practice is five-fold: analyze a customer’s needs, offer solutions to the buyer, discuss the virtues of the item, overcome any questions the buyer may have and close the sale. This methodology can sometimes be condensed to a three-part methodology: prospect the buyer, present to the buyer and finish the sale.

Sales training classes are extensively available with many training institutions and specialist companies offering classes that you can take in person or via correspondence or the internet. Many large companies have also developed their own in-house sales development programs. There are also a plethora of books available on the subject.

Exceptional sales development will always stress the need to ask clients questions in order to better give them solutions, will always stress the necessity of understanding your merchandise and will include motivational material, as selling is a high-pressure occupation that not only needs a lot of self-motivation but also deals with a lot of rejection as well.

Incentive programs, what they’re for and how to use them are also included in a lot of new business development. These ‘sales incentive programs’ or SIP’s, are a tool used to encourage a sales agent and references specific goals for achievement, which aims to focus selling activity.

Sales development will teach you self-motivation, direction and exceptional communication skills and, as such, would stand any person in good stead for any managerial role outside of sales, as well as within.

The Blue Screen Of Death In Windows

by Michael Baker

Are you facing the problem of Blue Screen of Death in your computer? This problem is not so frequent in Windows XP but there are chances of it showing up and it gets very irritating. Restarting the computer in this case may be of some help, but it does not prevent it from occurring in the future. The experience one undergoes with the Blue Screen of Death is a very cruel some experience and could take on your nerves.

Do you know what the blue Screen of Death is? It is always better if you keep in mind what this is. By looking at the name alone, one feels that the problem must be so horrible that the only way out to get rid of this problem is disposing off the computer in garbage. But this problem is not that terrible as you may think.

The blue screen of death is actually only a windows stop message. This happens when windows run into a problem and it can’t get to the windows screen any longer without some action being taken. In Windows XP these blue screens are numbered which helps when trying to troubleshoot the problem that’s why it’s important to write down the numbers that appear from one that keeps recurring on you.

If you happen to get a blue screen and the computer won’t reboot try taking it into safe mode by pressing F8 when booting. If your computer goes into safe mode then it is probable problems with software or device drivers that are the culprit. Try rebooting your computer and press F8 again, this time instead of choosing safe mode, choose last known good configuration. This may get you back into windows. If it does, then you should download a registry fix utilities program, run it and fix any problems you might have with the registry.

If you continue facing the Blue Screen of Death, and you have installed a new software or hardware in the computer, then see to it if you can remove the software or the hardware device driver, which you could install again later on.

If this is not the case and you are still getting the blue screen of death then you are probably experiencing a hardware problem and it is probably best to call in a repair technician because it can be any number of things. It can be your power supply, your ram memory or even your motherboard.

You must keep in mind to write the number appearing on the Blue Screen of Death as it would be of help to the repair person who would find out the problem behind the Blue Screen of Death.

Blue Screens were most frequent in Windows 95 and Windows 98, and are not so frequent in other windows, but when they occur, it is a real tiresome experience. Luckily, there is a solution to the erroneous Blue Screen of Death which saves the effort of buying a new computer.

The fact: 75% of the visitors spend 10 seconds or less on web pages on average.

However, even if your visitors have decided to move on without buying anything on you site, they are still valuable as potential customers, to you or to someone else.

I see exit traffic as a way for you to offer your visitors something else that they might be interested in, if they did not get what they were looking for in the first place, and it is a way for you to increase your site revenues at the same time.

Many marketers funnel their exit traffic to another site or a affiliate link by popping up a small browser window, which allows them to get another chance to monetizing the visitor before he is out of their control.

You’ve probably seen them before, but there really aren’t much of them any more because most people think they were simply too annoying. All kinds of browsers is available nowadays with a feature which automatically detects any kinds of popups and blocks them before you see them.

But a FREE software called Psychic Pops perfectly deals with this problem:

When it detects that your visitors are thinking about leaving this page, it displays a unblockable pop-up hover to show a message of your choice to remind them “Don’t leave to fast!”

You can have them join your list, fill out an exit survey or simply direct them to an affiliate link.

Now I just made this software available for everyone to download here (some websites even charge 80 bucks for similar software), and it also comes with a master resell right that anybody can sell it for 100% the profit:

The NEED to Blog and WHY you’ll do it…

by Christopher B. Marquis

Now I hate to constantly belabour the same point, but this is so important that it requires mentioning again and again until it sticks firmly into your mind:

A May 2008 report from the website eMarketer.com shows that between 2007 and 2012, blog readership will climb from 94 million to an astounding 145 million. That is an increase of 67%! Read that number again. Now, I could spend all day talking to you about the many different things you can do to ensure that your business becomes a big hit. But when you have something as easy as this, words just don’t seem to cut it.

You’d have quite a challenge on your hands trying to find any other area of the business world which could guarantee you a 67% increase. What else do you need to hear? You NEED to start a blog right now!

Think for a minute about the industry giants Google and Yahoo! What made them so successful? They got into the market at just the right time – a time when the market was predicted to be in the beginning stages of explosive growth. Again, that number was 67%…

If that number doesn’t get you fired up to start your own blog, I really don’t know what would. But you know me always pushing the limit. I’m going to tell you even more reasons why you need to start blogging – right now!

If you scour through the internet (as I’ve done for you) looking for the right material, correct and true facts, you’ll eventually land upon an excellent report researched and written by the Pew Internet and American Life Project in 2006. The subject was simple, yet very complex.

The study covered who was blogging, how they went about it and what they had accomplished with their blogging. The findings of this study were very interesting; I’ve pulled the most important facts from it for your elucidation here.

So here are the top 5 blogging/blog points I’ve distilled from this report, which should be reason enough (if the first and essential one isn’t) to start your own blog today:

Point #1: Increasing your readership

Around 8% of U.S. internet users (12 million) have a blog.

39% of U.S. internet users (about 40 million) read blogs.

That’s a 5:1 ratio…and that ratio, as the report from eMarketer suggests, will likely increase.

Point #2: For the money?

52% of bloggers cited personal expression and having a creative outlet as their reason for starting a blog.

Only 7% of bloggers are in it for the money. What does this tell you? With such a small number of bloggers in it to make money, there is next to no competition – the field is wide open. Better yet, there’s a lot of already successful blogs which you can take your cue from for your own for-profit venture. The point here is that creativity sells – but few of the creative types are interested in selling it. You know better. Learn from this – there are profits to be made.

Point #3: Easy on time

Only around one in ten bloggers spend ten or more hours per week on their blog. Now that’s an interesting point. There are a large number of successful blogs, and those who run these, aren’t necessarily working through the night. So, running your own blog and making money might not be that difficult or time-consuming after all. In fact, this separate “hobby” could turn out to be the easiest money you’ve ever made.

Point #4: Subject matter

The survey asked bloggers what they tend to write about. These were their answers:

37% focus on their own lives

11% write about issues of public interest

7% focus on entertainment and other niche topics (e.g. sports, business, technology, hobbies, religion, etc.)

The point here to learn is that if you want a lot of viewers on an ever-increasing basis, then you’ll need to allow bloggers a lot of PERSONAL space to express themselves. Today it’s all about personality, about the FACE. Remember this point well.

Point #5: Demographics

Knowing your readership is something you need to do before you begin blogging. You want to try to capture the largest demographic possible if you intend to make your blog a for-profit one.

54% of bloggers are 30 or less years of age.

Bloggers are evenly divided between male and female.

More bloggers live in suburban areas than live in cities.

60% of bloggers are white, 11% black, 19% English-speaking Hispanic, and 10% other.

The demographics here don’t mean that you shouldn’t also include minority groups in your target audience, but if you want to make money doing this you need to go for the biggest potential readership. The best blogs of all are those which appeal to everyone regardless of demographics. That’s the ideal. Having the broadest possible appeal is crucial to financial success through blogging.

There has been a lot of useful information and many good reasons given here for you to start up a blog right away. Don’t wait a second more – start blogging! Setting up a blog is fast and easy and usually free to boot! It also isn’t going to eat up all of your time. So what are you waiting for? What else do I need to tell you?

Of course you will want to quote your current customers to lend credibility to your claims of being a service-oriented company and best value provider.

Newspaper and Web articles can grow your business. Do not be left out by being the only local business NOT in the Sunday paper. Do not give your new potential customers over to your competition and leave your business hanging high and dry. Be a leader and and promote your business within the entire community. Be sure everyone knows you are open for business and happy to serve. Get your articles ready and let the profits role in.

What is a the purpose of a Collection Agency & when should I use?

by JR Rooney

Debt collection agencies are hired on behalf of creditors to collect money when the creditors don’t have the time or resources to effect collections on overdue debts for themselves. Collection agencies specialize in getting people to pay, they have staff that specializes in debt collection and skip-tracing, which covers a broad range of FDCPA legal and debt negotiating skills, and a streamlined process for going after accounts.

As a creditor, if you decide to hire an collection agency, you pass the obligation of collecting the debt to them. Normally, if the agency recovers the money they will only keep a percentage of the amount collected as payment.

Most collection agencies do not buy the debt outright. The debtor does not actually owe the agency the money. It still owes the debt to the original creditor. The collection agency will provide, if asked, proof (known as validation of debt) that they have been placed into collections on behalf of a creditor.

Occasionally, collection agencies will purchase the debt from the creditor. However, usually all that the collection agencies acquire is the right to carry out the process of debt collection.

All collection companies are governed by federal laws (FDCPA) and collection agencies are not in the business of collecting fraudulent debts. However, when acting on behalf of a legitimate creditor they will take all necessary steps to enforce the collection of overdue accounts, including going to court on behalf of the creditor and reporting to the credit bureaus.

You need a debt collection company when –

the debtor has the ability to pay but ignores you the debt is past due there is not a valid dispute

A debt collection company will attempt to collect via a letter writing campaign which can be effective, if occasionally slow, but it may not lead to recovery when –

the debtor has or thinks he/she has a valid defense the amount owed is disputed in full there is faulty product the debtor’s solvency is in doubt or there is the possibility of bankruptcy

If any of these issues occur, the creditor should control all pertinent legal decisions such as if and when to file suit, what attorney to use and any other decisions made prior to or during the court action. This is crucial when the creditor has a long term interest in keeping the customer as his client. Not retaining control of such decisions and proceeding without the advice of a qualified legal representative could leave the creditor open to counter suit.

The option exists where the creditor does not wish to do additional business and the creditor is not interested in the outcome of a debt collection, beyond getting his money, to sell the debt to a debt purchaser.
