Five Steps to Successful Project Delegation

by Lisa Symons, Symon Says Communication

Delegation in practice

Not too long ago, as I was sitting at my desk working – it was so late that it was actually the regular work day for my team in Asia. This was common. I was working so many hours, that I was working during two shifts (US and Asia). My frustration was rising with the project and with my team. However, the team was bewildered by my reaction. They were doing everything I assigned to them – why would I be upset with that?

Why indeed. I had fallen into a common trap. I thought I was delegating, but instead, I was simply assigning tasks and retaining ownership of everything. It was during one of these marathon work sessions that I realized I needed to make big changes – and fast. I began to look at when projects worked, seemingly without my intervention and when they didn’t. Breaking it down, the solution jumped out clearly. There are five steps to successful delegation.

1. First, you must clearly define the task. What is it that needs to happen? What is your desired result?

2. Second, select the team or the individual that you want to accomplish this result.

3. Third, tell the individual what’s being delegated to them. It’s also important to let other people in the organization know that this person is now responsible for the task, so they know not to keep coming to you about it.

4. Fourth, keep in place a monitoring system, so you can ensure that progress is being made and they’re not getting off-track.

5. And finally, complete a final review. Look for lessons learned and how things can be improved in the future.

These five steps are logical enough – the key is putting them into practice. I started with the project that caused the most work hours for me. I looked at my Asia team to determine who had the ability to lead the team on-site, then, before assigning the team member the task, I set clear objectives and goals. Successful delegation requires a clear end result.

I selected Helen for the role. She had the skills necessary as well a willingness to take on more responsibilities. After I determined the right person, I knew I had to give her the authority she needed to meet her objective. This is an important point since you can’t expect success without a willingness to give up some authority. You also can’t just delegate it and walk away. You may need to teach new skills and also ensure that the rest of the team understands this shift in ownership.

After you’ve truly delegated, you need to monitor the progress. Look at the plan. Make sure that there’s some scheduled goals and meetings to ensure that the tasks are being met. I usually do this with in 1:1 meeting. This is a schedule time for us to talk about anything that may be of concern as well as upcoming due dates and milestones. These informal discussions can provide an excellent framework for feedback. If necessary, provide some direction. Give your team the objectives and the clear goals to keep them on track. Provide encouragement. You want to boost morale and make sure that people are making progress going forward. A good way to do this is by monitoring with milestones. A subtle but effective form of monitoring is using these milestones.

Often, it helps to create a series of small, interim deliverables that will serve as checks-and-balances on the progress of a larger task. These milestones can then be used as a basis for progress reports (1:1 sessions).

What happens when you do have problems? You need to learn to manage by exception. When it comes to delegating, you need to keep it organized. Make sure you know where they are and that they know and can track their milestones. In my case, when Helen started slipping on a key deliverable, we worked closely together until she was back on track. It was difficult for me, personally, because I just wanted to fix it. In the short term, it would have been much faster to simply fix it and hand it back. However, I wanted Helen to retain authority over the Asia team – this required her to find the solution and implement it. How?

The key is developing a structure. If the people you’re delegating to are having trouble, help them, train them. Make sure that they understand that if they run into a problem, they can contact you. This extra effort should be short term and the long term benefits are many. They include not only the deliverable at risk, but the entire delegated ownership and who knows – maybe bigger and better projects in the future. With Helen, that was the case. She overcame the short term concern and the project went on to deliver on time. Even better, I was back to just working the US shift!

Performance and deliverables are, ultimately, in your control. Are you ready to make it happen? Go to http://www.delegatesuccess.com and take the readiness quiz.

Passive Income is Financial Freedom

by Troy Smith

Would you rather work 40 hours a week to achieve the same amount of income as someone else makes working an hour a week? The answer to this question is pretty obvious, yet many people do not know to make this happen. A great financial legend, James D. Rockefeller, once said that he would rather earn from 1% of 100 people’s efforts than 100% of his own. He couldn’t have put it any better. Do you find it hard to make enough to get by?

The solution to your problem is the idea of passive income. Passive income is the idea of setting up streams of income that will work for you without you having to invest your time. Once you set up a passive income, it mostly works on autopilot and you can make money while you are working on other endeavors in life.

Even if your financial situation seems like it cannot get any worst, it will if you continue to work harder and not smarter. Inflation tells us that we need to earn about $225,000 a year just to earn what the average household did in 1968! That trend does not seem to be stopping anytime soon, so now is the time to start thinking about a passive income.

One way to create a passive income is the idea of residual income. This is a monthly income from something that you put time into investing only once. You can establish a residual income by selling unique, electronic products online to a stream of customers. This method is entirely automated by allowing digital delivery and payment.

A way to establish this residual income is through e-books and PayPal. You can even purchase the resell rights to pre-existing e-books and simply buy the rights from there. However, this is not the best and most efficient way to have a passive income. You need to apply leverage to have this automated income perform at its best.

Leveraged income allows the labor of additional individuals to establish an income for you. In this method, you create an income off of others people’s toil, instead of your own. This strategy may or may not second as residual income, which when combined with leveraged income, is twice as efficient.

Another type of leverage is active leveraged income. This type does involve your efforts, but by getting more people involved in your project, you can earn even more money. You do not have to hire someone because your recruits will want to do this for you. This can greatly enhance the return and get you closer to your financial freedom.

You can have the freedom to do whatever you want to do and be whatever you want to be sooner than you think without being concerned about money. If you can simply create an item people will continuously purchase, encourage others to assist in the resale of your product, and find methods to make money off of the labor of other people, you will establish this freedom that you, and many others like you, have been searching for their entire lives.

The Lead Generation

by William Marind

Lead generation is a marketing term that refers to the creation or generation of prospective consumer interest or inquiry into a business’ products or services. Lead Generation is not a new form of gaining new business, but it now has a new approach. Lead generation is a win-win for both the buyer and seller.

Companies will become more select on who can market their clients to ensure that converting leads are gathered and sent on. Companies that can perform and provide quality leads to their clients will be sought out by previous clients of companies that couldn’t perform. Companies-usually relocation departments-receive lead information, which is then passed on to associates.

Sales lead generation has never been this simple. Sales lead generation is implemented through three processes. Sales Leads Now is the initial purpose of search engine marketing.Online AdvertisingOnline advertising has significantly transformed since the eruption of Web 2. Online lead generation strategies enable education marketers to:Quickly build a high volume of targeted leads that have proactively expressed an interest in their programs.

Lead Acquisition is one of the most critical activities within the lead generation process. Lead generation could work for just about any business, but most industries using this type of marketing include insurance agencies, education institutions, office suppliers, and furniture stores. Lead generation has become popular with businesses because it enablesa business to determine pricing on a per lead basis. Lead generation will continue to grow and businesses will continue to perfect the model.

Consumers are constantly warned against giving personal information to companies. When the most popular websites in the world make money from selling advertising then you have to believe there is a massive need for companies to market themselves in a traceable, affordable way.If one of the visitors opt in to the ad, they send the information so you can immediately start building a new database. For complex products and services requiring a complex decision process, the keys are identifying the most likely prospects and then educating and qualifying them before deploying more expensive sales resources. The goal of lead generation is the creation of more selling opportunities. Yet, for most organizations, lead generation is a hit-or-miss affair.

How To Build A Big Responsive List

by John Anghelache

Succeeding on the Internet comes down to understanding the basics. You need to pick a good market. You need to find out what they are willing to buy. And you need to use a proven marketing system.

The next step is getting website visitors and getting them to join your list.

Everything comes down to having a big list of responsive people. That’s where the money is. Therefore, building your list should be your number one priority.

Traffic generation and list building are the cornerstones of Internet business success. You need to get people to your website. Then you need to persuade those people to give you their email address. This is how it’s done…

STEP ONE: Adopt the mindset that list building is the focal point of your business. In other words, put all your effort into getting people to opt in to your list. Everything you do should have this single end in mind.

Next, create a “hook” that compels people to join your list. The hook is usually some valuable information product you give away for free. You put up a simple web page promoting that freebie. To get it people have to give you their email address. Fair exchange if you ask me.

Remeber, your primary purpose is to build your list. So, the next thing you must do is promote the lead capture page. Here are a few good ways to drive traffic…

What I rely on to get more website traffic is joint ventures with ezine publishers, ezine ads and targeted articles.

Okay. So let’s tackle article marketing. What you do is write up a simple article that is several hundred words long. No more than about 700 words. Include a resource box with a link to your website. People who click on that link will be taken to your lead capture site.

Submit at least one article per week to the different article directories. You can do a simple search online to find article submission services and software. It’s best to use these instead of trying manual submissions.

Ezine advertising is powerful. In any market a number of ezines (or electronic newsletters) exist. The publishers of these ezines will accept both articles and ads. The ads are either classified or solo emails. Solo emails work better.

Again, ezine ads should be written to drive traffic to your lead capture page. Search online for ezines in your target market. You’ll find plenty of them unless you’re in a really small niche.

Reciprocal joint ventures work very well. You simply contact the ezine publishers you would otherwise advertise with and have them promote your free report to their list. Then you reciprocate by doing the same for them to your list.

Make sure you approach joint venture prospects with a list that if of similar size as yours. If you don’t have any list yet you can still make this work by finding out what you can do for the joint venture partner.

Don’t allow yourself to get sidetracked. On a daily basis, focus your efforts on growing your list. Take some action daily to get people to join your list.

Next time I’ll go over some of the basics of monetizing the list.

Leadership Competence Coaching: Learn Communication Skills

by George Purdy

Power can be defined as the ability to shape and alter the course of events. It is both a necessary, and perhaps the most distrusted component exigent to human progress. While power is often misused, it remains an essential part of implementation. If an organization is to see its goals achieved, it must find leaders who understand how to wield power and act appropriately.

There are many types of leaders and there are also many types of leadership training available. Leadership competence coaching works with the proposed leader to make them more aware of their surroundings, having them adjust to different situations while commanding and shaping underlings. There are three main types of leaders; Commanding leaders pass out assignments and reward or punish based on performance. Shaping leaders use networking and organizational goals while persuading leaders use knowledge, compromise, input, and teamwork to achieve results.

Business leaders can become exceptionally skilled negotiators with leader competence coaching. In organizations, good negotiating is a very important skill to possess. Leaders must also implement the right approach to negotiation. The objective should be to reach agreements that satisfy all persons involved and are equally fair to everybody.

In business, any good leader must function as an executive coach for his or her subordinates and team members, and communication skills are vital to this task. Although written communication is the key to the official, formal aspects of business, most people respond more readily to verbal communication when going about their daily routines.

Listening is the most important communication skill. One who hopes to direct others must first listen to them. Leadership competence coaches understand this need, and will encourage many forms of communication in the organization they are coaching. One way of listening that is commonly taught is to repeat the other person’s words to be sure that you are hearing what they are saying. The first speaker must approve what you say you have heard before you are allowed to respond with your own ideas.

A good business leader always leads by action. He should do what he expects out of others. He should act like a role model. He should be able to solve problems efficiently, plan the things appropriately and able to bring about required transformations with ease. To acquire all these qualities it is mandatory to take leadership competence coaching. This coaching is really helpful to make you a competent leader.

Power requires the ability to influence people and affect the course of future events. There are many types of leaders and there are also many types of leadership training available. If you are a business leader who wants to increase your negotiation skills, leadership competence coaching may help. Because all leaders need to play the role of executive coach for their employees and/or teammates, they must have excellent communication skills. The leader needs to walks his talk. He should be an administrator, problem solver, planner, strategist and transformer. This type of coaching teaches the leader to be all that and even much more than that.

Making Money as a Mystery Shopper American Style

by Ethan Hunter

Mystery shopping has become a great way for people to make a little extra money, perfect for stay-at-home moms, students, or those wanting to pad the Christmas fund or save for an upcoming vacation. The United States is known as the land of opportunity, which is why mystery shopping American style applies. This special type of “shopping” comes with an abundance of opportunity that includes restaurants, car maintenance, jewelry, sunglasses, clothing, and much more.

Usually as a mystery shopper, American companies will hire you through market research companies. However you may occasionally be hired directly by the stores wanting an evaluation, but that is quite rare. Their goal is to get feedback on their company and the service that the customer received so that they can improve anything that needs improving.

The way in which a mystery shopper is paid depends. In some cases, the shopper would be reimbursed for purchases made, which may or may not include an additional small fee. However, some mystery shopping jobs simply pay a fee ranging from $10 to $50 without the need to buy anything. Competition amongst companies is tough, each vying for the consumer’s business. By being able to understand and manage performances associated with the sale of products and/or services, companies are given a huge advantage over the competition.

Being a mystery shopper, American companies often give you all of the information that you should look out for when you visit the store. For example, you may need to get names of the staff, look at how clean the establishment is, or you could have to see how well food is presented after you have ordered it. Business owners want to know a wide variety of things and it is up to the mystery shopping company to tell you everything that you need to look out for.

Being a mystery shopper, American companies expect a detailed report, which is then passed on to the company itself. From there, the information provided is analyzed and a plan for possible changes made. Using the restaurant shop as a prime example, if you had ordered a steak well done, but it came back rare, you would include this in the report. With this information, the restaurant owner or management team would have the chance to discuss the problem with the chef so future customers get exactly what they order. Being a mystery shopper American style actually helps companies in the United States provide a far more superior product and/or service.

This type of evaluation actually got started in the 1940s. Today, it has become a powerful tool used to measure the integrity of an employee, the quality of a product and/or service, and the overall performance of the business. Typically, when working as a mystery shopper, American companies have the ability to take information and then measure the value of what they offer to the public. Keep in mind that while this offers tremendous opportunities in this country, mystery shopping is also used around the globe with airlines, housing associations, churches, schools, and more.

Affiliate Marketing Is A great Way To Make Money On eBay

by Rick Dupont

It is quite amazing, but the high amount of traffic that comes to an eBay site certainly makes it a very exciting place to earn good money provided one knows how to sell products at an online auction site such as eBay. In fact, a staggering more than, it is believed, five million buyers shop at eBay on a daily basis and eBay sellers are believed to make as many as a hundred thousand dollars per minute.

Thus, eBay is undoubtedly the place to sell things and that is why it pays to learn just how to make money on eBay because surprisingly, you could even find a buyer for your goods even while listing your item on eBay.

Different Ways To Succeed

However, not everybody can make money on eBay, despite the fact that they approach the market in an organized systematic way. Can end up being beaten by sellers who simply sell their products will-nilly and who also don’t even know the ABC of making money on eBay. The reason for such an anomaly is that when buying and selling on eBay you are indulging in an activity that is different compared to what is normal at other times.

Some experts even of the opinion that the best way to make money on eBay is to not sell anything at all, as crazy as this sounds, there is still something of great worth in it. All you need to do is learn how to cash in on the system, it is believed, sixty million different products are being put up for sale on eBay and at the same time have not been listed at all.

The trick of course lies in joining an affiliate program which is available to anyone who wishes to sign up and which will help them make money on eBay for almost every item being sold on this online auction site.

Another wonderful option open to anyone that wishes to make money on eBay is buying different kinds of software packages that will aid them even if they don’t have a website or have sold in the online space before.

There are in fact, certain software packages that work along with affiliate programs and which pick certain categories of products and even choose a website template for you and then put in their own special code that in turn will automatically build a website for you.

Thus, you can even pick which categories interest you the most, or you can choose a specific item and then feature all simular products in that range that have been listed for sale on your own website thereby easily making money on eBay by selling the different products.

To illustrate further, you can chose a certain hot selling jewelry item that is also much in demand and then build a site around that and other related jewelry items, and in this simple way, you will be able to earn a good commission each time you sell any of these items from your website.

Certainly, this is the best way to make money on eBay and you should certainly give it a go.

How to get people to buy from you again

by Million Dollar Mike

Howdy Fellow Business People,

I’m pretty good at getting repeat copywriting business. But I found out it’s not that way for everyone. David Garfinkel knew, so he invited me to I speak on his teleseminar called “Repeat Customer Profit Bonanza!”

I guess it was “unconcious competence, because I didn’t have a clue why I got so much.

So I dove into the bowels of my mind (ok… maybe that’s not a good visual…) and I tore the whole process apart. Took a long time, but in the end, I liked the formula.

Wanna know my secret?

Okay, since you asked here’s what I came up with.

It’s such an easy formula, master it and the rewards are golden.

1- Results.

But hang on, that’s not all of the formula!

The second thing you need to nail is COMMUNICATION.

2- Communication.

When you communicate, you build your relationships, find new needs and show new solutions that your customers don’t know you even offer! It works online or offline, keep the communication flowing and make sure you aren’t always pitching in every communication.

After that, you need to deliver a heaping dose of VALUE.

3- Value.

Make sure your customers know you have other competencies and give them value along them.

Just share your unique knowledge… add more value… and they will see how different you are compared to the competition. (You’ll smoke the competition!)

For example, my copywriting clients end up getting thousands of dollars of marketing advice for free. .

Don’t be one of those people who only do what they need to do to get by… get outside of that mindset.

Customer service on the web sucks. At least most of it does. Why not go one further and provide warm fuzzy customer care? You’ll instantly be different than everyone else… and your customers will LOVE you for it.

Why not be different from all the cold prickly “service” people are used to? Think that will set you apart?

Just some warm fuzzy customer care will set you apart. And your customers will notice… and your trust skyrockets.

For example, I work with Rick Raddatz, HE gets it. I was flown by Rick to Brekinridge Colorado for a 2 day brainstorming session this winter. We focused on customer service a good amount of the time.

But Rick didn’t just pay lip service to the concept. When I wrote his Instant Teleseminar copy, we added Ricks personal cell phone number in the copy.

Because they took the time to set it up (which most people do half heartedly) and now that expense has actually paid off.

Don’t be afraid to invest in customer care… it pays for itself.

Which would you rather have?

The upside is, it helps with your customer COMMUNICATION and you’ll get new ideas for products and services.

Bottom line – Not only did customers have Rick’s cell phone number as a “security blanket” that made them feel cared for, but Rick saw other benefits too. Talk about a win-win!

(A pro copywriter like me shudders at one and done business models…)

Put the formula to the task and watch your business explode.

Cheers,

Million Dollar Mike

The Perfect Business Opportunity – Start a Moonwalk Business

by Cheryl Pierce

Owning a bounce house business is so much fun. An inflatables business isn’t just fun, it’s profitable too! And unlike other businesses…growing too fast is a bigger concern than not growing at all.

There are a few questions you want to ask yourself when starting an inflatables business.

Why would I want to start a moonwalk business?

Moonbounce rentals are a great home based business with a low initial investment with extremely fast cash return.

What’s the start up cost?

Set up your company. Talk to an account to check out the local business laws and make sure your business is set up correctly for accounting. Assume you’re going to grow quite a bit. (It’s alot easier to act like a business from the beginning than backtrack later). Pick a name that’s fun and exciting. Decide what kind of rentals you’d like to do…birthday parties, large events…or both!

After you decide what equipment you want, start talking with manufacturers and place your order. Most orders take up to 4 weeks for delivery so plan ahead.

Where do I find Customers?

Birthday parties, church events, family reunions, post prom parties, summer camps, corporate picnics & events, holiday parties, store promotions, school parties, street fairs and festivals (be careful with street fairs and festivals…talk to your salesperson about the risks of “pay for play”), swap meets, pre-schools, day cares, Halloween festivals, fund raisers, car dealerships, grand openings, shopping malls and lots lots more…don’t forget family reunions. Look for all the posibilities! And look for kids Everywhere!

How long before I’ll show a profit?

If your bounce rental is $150.00 (which is a low standard in much of the country…based on average rentals of 1 1/2 times a week for 7 months (very few of us work 12 mos/year, You should make approx $6750.00 for that one unit. If you want to maximize your rentals…really push that unit. Assume you rent another 2 times a week at 1/2 price. This adds $4500.00 for the 7 mos. Total income turning into $11,250….for just one unit that costs less than 3,000.00. Just image what you can do if you add to your profit with packages…or purchase 3 more bounces! 4 bounces averaging $225.00 each week for 30 weeks + $27,000.00. Not bad for a part time home business!

How Can I grow?

Just start adding more equipment. Just don’t purchase too much at a time. The most successful rental companies maximize the use of their equipment. Before you spend a fortune on a “showpiece” work the numbers and make sure it’ll make you more money than you would make if you bought 2-3 less expensive pieces.

Keep in mind that inflatables are simple items…easy to take care of and easy to repair. Just keep a patch kit on hand in case you ever have an emergency.

What do I do now?

Go out and MAKE SOME MONEY!!!
