Laughing Til It Hurts

Any media which is stored in electronic form is known as digital media. Unlike analogue media (any information which exists in physical form, such as books, paintings and so on), digital media is information which can be stored and displayed or listened to on a computer. This media is stored in binary form (a digital format consisting of ones and zeroes which your computer can interpret) and can then be translated by your computer and presented to you in a form intelligible to human beings – text, images and audio.

Nowadays, it is almost impossible to avoid using digital media whether directly or indirectly, especially for those who uses computers every day. The Internet is comprised of various types of digital media. E cards are among the components of the Internet that uses digital media. E cards are combinations of images, texts, and audio. Certain e cards include 2D or 3D animations and there are e cards that are made using video.

How are they made? One of the most important elements is the picture or image. Otherwise, it is the 2D or 3D animation, or the video, if it is a video e card. The image used in an e card can be drawn using digital drawing software like Adobe Illustrator or copied from clip-art libraries. It can also be a photograph taken using a digital camera or scanned from a magazine. An image is a combination of hundreds and thousands of tiny dots called pixels, and each pixel is represented by certain binary numbers. The numbers contain the information of each pixel, such as the color, brightness, contrast, and so forth. The more pixels an image has, the more information it contains, and the better the image looks on the computer screen. This is also the main reason why certain image is larger than the other.

On the other hand, 2D or 3D animations are pictures that move. They are made of a set of images combined together using scripting language, so that they appear to be moving. Therefore, these non-static images are larger than static images, although they may appear cartoon-like. The same algorithm can also be used to make the texts to appear moving on the e card. Then, audio files are added for effect.

This combination of images, along with text and audio if desired makes up the contents of an E card. While E cards offer more features than a traditional greeting card, they are far easier to send; they can be sent very quickly and at little to no expense. You don’t need a stamp and they can’t get lost in the mail! All you need is an email address to send them to; there’s plenty of different E cards to choose from, with funny E cards being by far the most popular. E cards are great for any occasion – holidays, weddings and birthdays, or simply to let someone know you’re thinking of them.
