When you are looking for a job in any industry you will fail if you aren’t suited to that position, and even if you are suited to the position you will fail in attaining the job if you don’t have the right tools to showcase your talents and achievements.

You have to know what you are good at and what you’re not good at. Look at your past history and your interests, what have you really enjoyed doing, what interests you, what will give you enough incentive to maintain that interest?
You will never see an advertisement in the newspaper that says ” Wanted 1 (your name) no experience necessary”, offering a huge pay packet to boot. If you are single minded enough to do what ever it takes to secure your dream job, research it, will you need to further your education.
You should research the differing types of opportunities available in your location, perhaps the position for which you are eminently suited is not available in your area. If this is the case, and you are determined to gain that dream job, perhaps a relocation is in order.
Some times you can’t see the forest for the trees, other people may see qualities and skills in you that you can’t see yourself, this is the reason some job seekers go to a professional. An employment consultant may be able to help you formulate a truthful but professional view of your capabilities.
Concentrate on applying for positions that you have experience with, too many people waste too much time applying for positions that are out of their reach, either because of their experience or education. If your education is a barrier to your achieving your dream job, improve it.
As unemployment rises it becomes harder to secure that perfect job. The ideal job for you is out there but you will have more and more people to compete with to secure that job. Make your application as professional and impressive as possible. Remember, you are competing with others for that job.
Applying for the perfect job is one of many hurdles that you will have to overcome. But the most important hurdle is still to come, the interview. It is a good idea to enlist the help of someone to practice your interview skills. Role play the interview, become comfortable with the process so that you will have all of the answers to any questions that may be asked of you.
