Adsense: How To Start Using Adsense to Increase Ad Revenue

by Darrel Hawes

Adsense is a service owned and operated by Google. Adsense lets website owners earn advertising dollars by showing ads on their websites. Google supplies the text, image and video ads that show on websites in the Adsense network. Which advertisements appear is determined by the keywords and content that exists on the website.

For website owners who rely on advertising revenue for part of their income, Google’s Adsense system has become the foundation of that effort. Several reasons exist for this. Adsense ads are often less distracting than the typical banner type ads. Due to Google’s method for selecting which ads appear on which websites, Adsense ads are most often highly relevant to the website on which they are displayed.

Website owners generate advertising revenue when a visitor to their site clicks on an ad on their webpage. The amount earned depends on the ad. The revenue might be just a few cents or a dollar per click, or even more. Adsense ads originate from the Adwords network of advertisers.

You might assume that owners of websites would be tempted to click on advertisements on their own sites, knowing that each click earns them revenue. Its is not surprising to learn that Google takes click fraud very seriously and knows how to determine when it happens. When they catch someone committing click fraud, usually the guilty person is banned from ever using Adsense again.

Website owners can subtly persuade visitors to click on ads through the use of three primary methods:

The use of several varieties of traffic generating techniques to get more visitors to their websites.

Employ great content on the site, to trigger Adsense ads which are worth higher amounts per click.

Persuasive sales copy which naturally makes readers want to click on the ads. Some website owners write phrases like these: “Sponsored Links” or “Advertisements”. It should go without saying that it violates Google’s Adsense terms of service utilize such blatant comments as “Click on these links”.
