If you want to get on with the locals while traveling , why not learn their language? Its easy to forget that English is a second language for the rest of the world but what if English is your first language?, do you speak the local language of your travel destination? remember there wont always be an interpreter around when you need one in a foreign country so be prepared.

When planning an overseas trip do consider the language and give some thought to learning some of the local language. To get started visit your local library or search on the Internet, you may be surprised at how inexpensive it can be. you may even find a local language class to suit, check your local papers.

Do you have an ipod? have you thought about getting one? well if you are thinking of learning a new language, now may be the time. A relatively new and increasingly popular learning technique is learning via ipod. Your language of choice is simply downloaded onto your ipod so you can learn any place, any time.

Hello, how are you?, my name is, where is the post office, train station, pharmacy and cafe are all good to know and don’t forget how to learn to say thank you in the local language, this goes a very long way with the locals.

Consider what type of activities that you may include on your trip, what could you possibly need to ask for. Start learning theses terms and phrases. Learning a new language is just the same as learning any new skill, practice, practice, practice.

If you have a destination in mind why not consider a language holiday? A number of companies now offer a language and culture immersion, you live within the local community and positively cant help but be surrounded by the language and culture 24/7, the longer you spend the better your language becomes, be warned however it does get harder to go home after this type of holiday.

You will be glad you have at least a little of the local language to get by on. It really will make a difference to how the locals interact with you and you with them.
