What is the origin of the anesthesiologist assistant profession?
In the 1960s, three anesthesiologists, Joachim S. Gravenstein, John E. Steinhaus, and Perry P. Volpitto, were concerned with the shortage of anesthesiologists in the country. After studying the educational pathway for anesthesiologists and nurse anesthetists (NAs), they created a new educational paradigm for a mid-level anesthesia practitioner that included a pre-med background in college.A Medical Assisting degree is not necessarily the key to better pay or faster promotions. Doctors’ main concern is to have a Medical Assistant who can do the job well.

What am I really going to get out of this program?
You may find it easier to be a physician because a boring, monotonous part of your job is done – data gathering and documentation. When you gain confidence in IMH, you will find your efficiency of seeing patients increases because you have an electronic assistant that makes your job easier. This electronic assistant will ask questions as consistently at 4PM on Fridays when the waiting room is full as it does at 8AM on Mondays after you return from a vacation.The degree programs have a liberal arts component along with skill courses in the emphases areas of legal office assistant, medical office assistant, and office management training.

What kinds of experiences count toward the 500 hours of healthcare experience?
Most healthcare experiences count. Both paid and/or volunteer experiences count. Ideally, experiences should be healthcare-related. Some students have earned nursing assistant certification, working summers in hospitals or nursing homes. Some students have received on-the-job training in nursing homes. Volunteer experiences are just as valuable. Applicants have volunteered at summer camps for children with disabilities or who suffer from other afflictions.High quality work ethics.
