Time was when you were much admired for your slim and trim figure! Today, people look at your belly first before they look at your face! This losing battle of the bulge is giving you nightmares. And you decide to take up a weight loss diet. It is advisable to get advice from those who are already on such diets. But do not be put off by the diverse views that are presented to you. There will be those who try their level best to persuade you not to go in for such fanciful stuff–it has not worked for them; where is the guarantee that it will work for you? Yet others promise miraculous results if you only follow the same diet that they are following. Whatever the case may be, if you are serious about getting back a more balanced body, go in for a weight loss diet–a good one!

The “diet industry” is thriving today! In fact, it can rightfully be classified as a separate industry all on its own! But when did the concept of such diets actually originate? For that, one would have to go back to the seventies. Americans were making it out real good! The economy had been stable for a great number of years, giving people the opportunity to eat more and more! Naturally, their bellies tended to exhibit the first signs of increasing prosperity! Some could live with this comfortably, but not all! And so these weight-conscious Americans proved beneficial for the launching of weight loss diets. It was not an industry as such in those days; people produced their own diet charts. Sadly, these diets only indicated what was not to be consumed, and gave no clues as to what to actually eat. It does not take much imagination therefore, to conclude that these diets did not really produce much beneficial results.

Since the husband could not control his expanding girth himself, his wife had to do it for him. Constant checks were made by her to ensure that the belly was not expanding. To keep his weight in control, she would totally get rid of all those foodstuffs that caused weight gain, or gradually reduce their quantities from their regular meals. she had never heard of a balanced diet or proper nutrition. And there were no qualified professionals around to offer any sort of advice concerning food or diets.

It was in the early eighties however that weight loss diets became a full-fledged institution. By now, the battle against the bulge had become a real enough health issue for governments and healthcare providers to sit up and take notice. The census and healthcare figures of this period reveal that nearly one out of every four Americans was clinically obese. And weigh loss diets and practitioners literally began crawling out of the woodwork to set shop. This was the time when numerous fads emerged. There were some weight loss diets that encouraged vegetarianism. Others like the Atkins weight loss diet promoted eating of meet, but disallowed starch and carbohydrates. Some other weight loss diets promoted fresh fruits and vegetables exclusively while still others eschewed everything that contributed to excess calories. This was an era when calorie counters emerged and weight loss diets became synonymous with body fat analysis and lean muscle weight.

All this is not new for me. After all, I have suffered an expanding belly and fallen prey to any number of weight loss diets. The gains were not much where weight loss was concerned, but were great where knowledge was concerned. Yes, it is easy to lose weight by almost starving oneself, but you also end up with a sallow complexion and a feeling of weakness. Follow the given diet, but also exercise! Exercise that helps to burn calories, coupled with a great weight loss diet, will result in a fab-looking body full of strength and vitality!
