Reverse Cell Phone Lookup – Is it Really Possible?

by Andy OConnor

It’s 3am in the morning and the phone rings. With bleary eyes, you take a look at the caller ID display, which shows a cell number you don’t know. You decide not to bother answering – you don’t want to talk to someone who could be a complete stranger at that time of night.

You are curious however about who was calling you and would really like to know who it is. The only way you can think of finding out who called, is by calling the number yourself – something you’d rather not do in case it’s someone you don’t want to speak to. There is another option though – a reverse cell phone lookup.

With a reverse cell phone lookup, all you need to do is type in the cell phone number that you?ve missed the call from. The reverse phone lookup service will then search through it?s database of millions of cell phone numbers and provide you with the details of who that particular cell phone number belongs too ? their name and address.

The only hard part of doing a reverse cell phone lookup, is deciding which service to use. You may do a search for a free reverse cell phone lookup service on one of the search engines & seemingly come up with hundreds of directories that offer the service for free.

Unlike with landline numbers, an accurate, free reverse cell number search can’t actually be done. The sites advertising as free are either fakes that let you search for free, but then make you pay to see the information, or sites that “decode” cell numbers to help work out the location and carrier (not the accurate information you want).

Free landline reverse phone searches do exist because the information for landline numbers can be found in the public domain – anyone can access it. Information for cell numbers isn’t in the public domain which makes it far more difficult to obtain.

The extra work and negotiations required to access the cell phone data held by the phone companies costs reverse cell phone directories a lot of extra money. It then takes a huge amount of time to accurately put all this information from millions of cell phone numbers into easily searchable databases.

Not all reverse cell phone lookup services are the same though. Some have access to bigger & better databases than others, while some will still charge you for a search even if they don’t have the number you’re looking for!

Luckily though, there’s only a small handful that try to get away with this. There are many excellent reverse cell phone lookup services that can provide you with all the accurate information you need on a number. You just need to know where to look to make sure you don’t get scammed.
