The Key to Financial Success through Blogging
Now I hate to constantly belabour the same point, but this is so important that it requires mentioning again and again until it sticks firmly into your mind:
A May 2008 report from the website eMarketer.com shows that between 2007 and 2012, blog readership will climb from 94 million to an astounding 145 million.
That’s a 67% increase … Read that number again.
Look, I can go on for pages offering you business and professional tips, techniques, tactics, you name it, to increase wealth, to reach financial success, or to “make it big” as the saying goes. But when something so obvious comes along, so right, words simply don’t cut it.
You’d have a hard time finding anything else in the business world which can confidently predict a 67% increase. Is there anything else you need to know? You need to start a blog and start one now!
Think about ‘old’ big online moguls such as Google or Yahoo!.
Why did they achieve so much success? Because they entered the market at the RIGHT time, when the projections for market growth were about to – and did – skyrocket.
Again, that number was 67%… If that’s not enough to motivate you, I really don’t know what would be. You know how I am though – always pushing just a little bit more.
I’m going to tell you even more reasons why you need to start blogging – right now!
If you scour through the internet (as I’ve done for you) looking for the right material, correct and true facts, you’ll eventually land upon an excellent report researched and written by the Pew Internet and American Life Project in 2006. The subject was simple, yet very complex.
They wanted to know WHO was blogging, HOW they blogged, and WHAT kind of success they’d been achieving. Their findings are very interesting and informative. I’ve gone through that report, and I want to let you in its most essential features and results.
Here are the top 5 points which this report makes which should demonstrate to you the importance of starting a blog today.
Point #1: INCREASING YOUR READERSHIP About 8% of U.S. internet users (12 million) maintain a blog. 39% of U.S. internet users (about 40 million) read blogs. That’s a 5:1 ratio…and that ratio is going to increase.
Point #2: FOR THE MONEY? The most cited reason for running a blog (52%) is for creative reasons. Only 7% actually do it for the money. What does that tell you?
With such a small number of bloggers in it to make money, there is next to no competition – the field is wide open. Better yet, there’s a lot of already successful blogs which you can take your cue from for your own for-profit venture. The point here is that creativity sells – but few of the creative types are interested in selling it. You know better. Learn from this – there are profits to be made.
Point #3: EASY ON TIME Only about 10% of bloggers spend ten or more hours per week working on their blog.
This is an interesting point. There are a lot of very popular blogs; the bloggers who run them are not necessarily spending all of their time maintaining them.Operating a blog (and profiting from it) might not be as hard as you once thought. This could be easy money for a very small investment of your time.
Point #4: SUBJECT MATTER The survey asked bloggers what they tend to write about. These were their answers: 37% focus on their own lives. 11% focus on public issues. 7% focus on entertainment and other niche topics (e.g. sports, business, technology, hobbies, religion, etc.).
If you want to have a readership which is large and ever-growing, you need to allow bloggers the latitude to express themselves. Web surfers are looking for a personality and a face to go with the content these days. Keep this in mind.
Point #5: DEMOGRAPHICS When starting a blog, you will definitely want to consider WHO is going to read your blog. When looking to make money, you will want to focus on the LARGEST readership (demographic group) available. Take a look:
54% of bloggers are under the age of 30. Bloggers are evenly divided between men and women. More than 50% of bloggers live in the suburbs. 60% of bloggers are white, 11% black, 19% English-speaking Hispanic, and 10% other.
While the demographics of the blog world don’t mean that you should not consider minorities as a part of your readership, you want to go for the largest possible audience if you are trying to make money from your blog.
Of course, the best blogs are those which appeal to everyone – every race, gender and age. That’s the goal. Broad appeal is the key to financial success through blogging.
There has been a lot of useful information and many good reasons given here for you to start up a blog right away.
Don’t wait a second more – start blogging! Setting up a blog is fast and easy and usually free to boot! It also isn’t going to eat up all of your time. So what are you waiting for? What else do I need to tell you?
