Hip Hop Greats

by June Beezy

Aren’t you tired of people coming up with all these bogus best hip hop artists lists. You’ve probably seen them all, just do a search on google and you’ll see what I’m talking about. Most people don’t even understand what the word ‘rapper’ means. A rapper is not someone who spits out the tightest lyrics or just has the most crazy flow. A rapper is someone who is the total package and his or her influence is enormous.

It’s all about how much has their music effected people or inspired them. It truly is that easy. Plus what was the ‘global’ impact they’ve had. Michael Jackson wasn’t a rapper but no one can deny his ‘global’ impact that is why he is easily the greatest entertainer of all time – even to this day. Same thing goes for rappers or any other music genre. It’s all about global impact. People tend to think they are different but they are not. You skin color or your so called ‘race’ is just a disguise. Can you imagine how boring the world would be if we all looked alike?

So my list has Tupac, Percy Miller, Puff Daddy, Curtis and Marshall Mathers. Tupac has had almost Michael Jackson like impact on the world. You can go to the middle east and when people think of rap music, they think of Tupac (Or Snoop Dogg). The westcoast started it all when it comes to taking things to international levels. Even a decade after his passing he is still raking in millions. I hope the money is truly going to his family but that is something I don’t know what is going with. Percy Miller also known as ‘Master P’ comes in second because he brought the idea of building empires with his music. How many rappers or musicians you know end up on the richest men in the country list on Forbes magazine?

Finally when Marshall came up it was like a re-brith in rap music. Here you had a white rapper who actually had some phenomenal skills. The color barrier was broken again and this time it was the opposite. You would think that after all the suffering black people went through, they would let the white kid do his thing but I guess anger is something that can slow down creativity, but not completely halt it.

Don’t forget about Sean Combs who literally grabbed the hip hop game from the urban community and put in in front of the world with his remixes of the most famous somewhat ‘white’ songs. Sean Combs again, following in the steps of Master P, has built a huge music empire that has made him into an amazing celebrity worldwide. He brought the ‘popness’ to hip hop and why not – the music is great. Again he’s one of those people who has had a global impact and to the haters out there, if it wasn’t for Sean Combs, we wouldn’t have P Diddy.
