From Real Estate To Industrial: Sales Jobs

by Salvador Paez

The sales department of any company has a very important task: that of persuading people to consume their company’s goods or services. Because of this, they are integral for the company’s growth. In spite of their similarities, sales is different from marketing because of its direct style.

How a salesperson goes about selling, as well as the different requirements to be a salesperson, all depend on the field of the company they are employed in. For example, a real estate agency will have real estate agents who are licensed to do their jobs. Real estate agents need to be knowledgeable about various property laws.

Every salesperson should be acquainted with the skills and knowledge necessary to intelligently sell the product to consumers. An industrial salesperson for his own part must have knowledge of the field as well as the product and buyers’ needs in order to be truly successful.

Now given the situation that you have a great hydraulic generator to sell and there is a customer who has limited knowledge of it, you should be able to describe in detail all the fine functions of the generator in order to persuade the customer to buy your product instead of another.

At the same time, if you have knowledgeable clients, they will also ask you many questions about your product. You will need to be able to answer these questions, not only to impress your client, but also so they will know if your product has the specifications that they need. The salesperson might even need to demonstrate the product to the client, or open up the parts to show how the products work.

Industrial sales agents need to have specializations in fields like engineering, in particular mechanical engineering and other related fields. To get these, there are many vocational courses that offer certificate programs that should get you underway.
