A Successful Coffee Shop Needs The Right Location
Don’t be in a hurry to decide on the location for your coffee shop! You want this decision to be based on solid information that can ensure you will do well. There is plenty of risk in any type of business so reducing it will be to your benefit. Even though there is no shortage of consumers looking for coffee, where you are located can determine if they buy it from you or some place else.
People aren’t going to go out of their way every day to get to your coffee shop. Don’t fool yourself into thinking they will do so due to the quality of what you offer. People simply don’t have the time to do that these days. This will end up being a recipe for failure. You have to be able to identify what is going on in certain areas. What will bring people there anyway and then they can add going to your coffee shop along the way?
Pay attention to small details that can prevent your coffee shop from being easily accessible. For example if there is a road with a divider in the middle, people may have to drive several blocks to turn and get there. Then they have to do the same thing in the other direction to turn around and go back the way they need to be heading.
It isn’t just the traffic for vehicles you need to look at either. Foot traffic is important to coffee shop businesses. You should be within walking distance of many types of businesses. That way you will see people coming in before work and even during their breaks. Being able to offer such services quickly for those that need some coffee to get through the day is important.
Think about the competition you will have in a given area as well. That can be tricky to evaluate. Some customers will give you a try but many will remain loyal to what they already know to be a great coffee shop. People tend to be more comfortable with what is familiar to them. If there are already too coffee shops on the block it is silly to think you can do well there.
However, if you find a location where the nearest coffee shop is several blocks away, you may be on to something. People can get their coffee from you and not have to go that far. When time is an issue like it is for many coffee drinkers every convenience to help them get the most to fit into their day is accessed.
Don’t be in a rush to sure an empty building in a given area though. You want to make sure that the previous business didn’t end due to the location not being a success for them. Get some history on what has been in business there and how well they did. If you see lots of closed up businesses in that general area then it likely isn’t the place to put your coffee shop.
There are many issues to take into consideration before you select a coffee shop. The more planning you do initially the better off you will be. Don’t put all of your time and effort into opening such a business and then realize it isn’t in a good enough location to get the volume of business you need to be a success.
