Native American Organizations And What They Do

The United States is a home to a lot of people of different cultures and races. There are a number of these individuals who belong to tribes of indigenous persons. They clothe themselves in a distinct manner which is considered as odd. They also talk using a different language and they can only understand a few English.

Because of the differences of these individuals, they are usually a target of racial discrimination. This is especially the case with places like New York, NY where they only constitute less than a percentage in population. Since this is the case, there are Native American organizations NYC being formed to be able to help these individuals out, especially the younger generation.

There are a number of trainings and seminars conducted by these associations to the people who do not descend from any of the tribes they are in. They help raise the awareness that their way of dressing and talking is part of their culture. Most of the times, those who attended the seminars are able to understand that they are only doing what they have been doing since ages ago. It is expected that discrimination can be minimized at least, or totally eliminated.

Many researches are done that are directed towards the cultural growth of their populace. These researches are oftentimes conducted by the elders of their specific tribes. There are events and concerts which serve as fund raisers to help the association in funding these endeavors.

They usually also provide financial assistance to their kinsmen who are in dire need of something. The individual or a member of his family may be sick and needs medical attention. His house may be burned down by the fire and that he needs financial assistance to be able to build it back up. He may also be needing capital to be able to start a business that could also help their community.

There are a lot of the children belonging to these tribes that do not have enough money to attend school. These kids have the interest to attend school so that they can learn. They believe that with this knowledge, they can help in uplifting their lives and their families. Scholarships are being provided to them.

The elderly members of the population may be given health care. The unemployed persons can also be offered a range of jobs. The organization may advise them to go to affiliated agencies to avail of a range of services that provided exclusively to them.

The organization also will make sure that all members of their community will be able to obtain the privileges that they are entitled to under the laws. They also make sure that the members will be able to uphold their rights when it comes to their sovereignty.

Assistance for legal matters can also be provided by some organizations. There are cases where a conflict may arise between a member of their tribe and a corporation or government agency regarding the use of a piece of land or natural resources. These organizations are typically composed of indigenous members who are experts in this field.
