Mitchelson

If you are someone who is searching for fresh new employees in the city of Sydney, you will find that you need to be aware of what Generation Y is looking for! Generation Y is a generation that is up to the minute on the latest trends and technology. With many ‘baby boomers’ reaching retirement age, attracting and consequently keeping Generation Y employees should be high on your list of priorities.

When trying to get these young and dynamic workers on to your team, you’ll have to keep some things in mind. In any business, success depends on finding the right workforce. Of just as much if not more importance is on ensuring that these talented workers will find the workplace engaging enough to stick around for a long time.

Making your workplace one which will engage members of Generation Y involves having an understanding of the psychology of this young and dynamic group. This is a generation which has grown up with the constant presence of the internet. These are people who use social networking and are very interested in information and using the web to conduct research on their own. Generation Y is made up of skilled problem solvers who are used to thinking outside of the box and have a reverence for new technology.

One important thing to know about Generation Y is that they do not expect to devote their whole lives to a company; it’s just not how they’re wired.

The members of this generation place equal weight on job loyalty and maintaining a high quality of life. They will not be happy with a job which asks them to give their all without giving them what they see as an appropriate compensation for this. They also have very little patience with micromanagement, being used to working independently and managing their time themselves.

Another thing that may be surprising to those hiring in Sydney may be the fact that Generation Y places a great deal of stock in the ability to work casually. If clients aren’t going to be seeing them, and if their only contact will be with people within the company, a relaxed dress code can go a long way towards keeping the employees that you need. While they understand how important making a good impression is, and how other people do view them, they also appreciate a work place attitude of casual comfort and being able to work without needing to worry about appearances.

As these young workers enter the job market in growing numbers, companies must be aware of how to recruit and engage them in order to achieve stability in their company staffing.

This is particularly true in Sydney – before you begin your next round of hiring, learn all you can about this new generation. The best way to go is to get the insight of someone who has already been successful in creating a workplace which appeals to the sensibilities of Generation Y.

About the Author:

About the author: Alison K.
