Graphic design will be one of the fast growing job markets by 2014. The most in demand jobs will be concentrated around graphic design, designing websites and computer animation. The market will be highly competitive even when there are plenty of jobs available in computer graphic design. This is because this is a popular area of study, and many people pursue it as a career, a hobby, or a part time freelancing gig. A four year college degree or a Bachelors Degree is sufficient to become a computer graphic designer. Some technical positions can be obtained with only a two year college degree, or Associates Degree. However, this type of career will not go progress far without further education. Formal education is a must, if you want to pursue this career.

Of all those who have taken up computer design work as a career, almost one third work as freelancers. Holding a regular job of a computer graphic designer or any other computer related profession is normal for nearly half of the freelancers. If you decide to opt for freelancing, it is a feasible option since there is a continuous stream of demand from smaller firms with computer graphic design requirement and who can not afford the fees of larger design companies.

Various career options are available in computer graphic design. You can seek a career in print or audio advertising, television or film media, and book or magazine publishing. Although not wide enough in terms of variety, a career in a small or large specialist company may throw up a steady stream of work. You may decide to work as a freelancer in this profession but you need to put in some very hard work. This can only make your clients happy and make them offer you new projects.

If you wish to pursue this as a career, a college degree, desire, and knowing where you want to go is not enough. Development of skills in using computer graphic software and other computer-related work is essential. You should make a portfolio which carries a collection of some of your best work. The portfolio content can be a deciding factor on whether you would get the job or would still be in the queue.

Just after finishing your college, and coming to a decision what you wish to do and where you want to go, your focus should be to get that first entry level job. Where can you get computer graphic design jobs? You can get them through online job boards, online or print classified ads or through the college or university placement desks. Similarly, freelance jobs could be found through online job boards, classified ads as well as job for hire boards. Work for hire boards work better for design careers than other careers. This is because every one knows that this is an expensive proposal. Warm wishes and best of luck as you pursue your dream graphic design career.
