Lightweight computers mainly fall into two categories, laptop computers and notebook computers.Lightweight computers are basically small personal computers which are designed for personal use which consist of a display, a keyboard and a pointing device which is also known as a touchpad.

You will find the usual shape of a lightweight computer is similar to a large book. The screen can vary from a largest size of 17 inches down to a small size of 13 inches but obviously these sizes can vary. When the computer is shut it also acts as a protection for the screen and keyboard.

These computers are now extremely popular from having a market share of less than 2% in 1986 of the computer market to an amazing forecast for 2009 that there will be more laptops than desltops PC’c

Laptops used to fall into two types. The first ones were desktop replacements which were as usually powerful enough to replace a PC but they were usually large with a limited battery life. This kind of laptop were usually used by business users who were able to to do most of their work at a desk and were able to carry their computer from office to office.

The second type was very much smaller but unfortunately the quality and battery life had to be sacrificed in order to have this luxury.

Luckily, for todays lightweight computer users there has been a trend to move towards far more efficient processor designs like Intels Core and Core 2 ranges, this type of computer will run far more quickly and efficiently and the old clod hoppers.

So, today, we are now in the enviable position of a generation of lightweight computers that will combine high performance with a brilliant battery life.
