Today, I want to tell you a bit about the best techniques for getting traffic to your site in the interests of business lead generation. It’s more than just getting people to your site – you need to attract visitors who are in a position to make or influences purchases. This makes traffic driving strategies for business lead generation a whole different ballgame than driving traffic for other purposes.<\/p>\n

There are techniques that can drive hundreds or thousands of visitors a month from social networking sites for example. But if you’re selling high-end software to business executives or carpet cleaning services to busy professionals, it’s unlikely your target customer is going to be among the traffic you generate via these methods. There’s also the problem of the rapidly changing internet landscape. <\/p>\n

Traffic generation techniques are constantly evolving based on the search engine algorithm of the day. When key players like Google change the way they rent websites or serve paid advertising, traffic generation strategies can change overnight. So, let’s focus on evergreen traffic generation concepts and strategies that are likely to keep working for the foreseeable future. Local Search, advertising on the internet in a local market <\/p>\n

Pay Per Click Advertising – paying for each visitor that comes to your website via the ad<\/a><\/p>\n

Blogging, or publishing a kind of online journal <\/p>\n

Social Networking and Web 2.0, this is utilizing sites such as Myspace<\/a>, Facebook and many other different sites to mobilize communities and get people to come to your website <\/p>\n

Offline Traffic Generation, or using offline media such as print, radio, TV, and other methods to generate traffic to your website, and <\/p>\n

Name Capture and Follow-up – getting contact information from visitors and keeping in touch to encourage them to visit again<\/p>\n

I’ll tell you about some of the ways of using these methods which can make the difference between lackluster and amazing performance. Local Search is where we’ll begin.<\/p>\n

Local search is web based advertising targeted towards people in your area. If your business has historically done well with the Yellow Pages, this can be a great way to get traffic to your site.<\/p>\n

Google Local is one of the best of these services; a part of the Google AdWords program, this service allows you to advertise with local keywords – “pest control Melbourne”, for example. When a web user does a search using these terms, a map showing the location of your business will be displayed, along with a link to your site.<\/p>\n

One of the things with local search is that in Google, especially, it’s extremely prominent. The local result is much more prominent than the normal results, so if you do advertise in a local area, I recommend that you research and get into local search on Google. <\/p>\n

There are of course other local search services. Among these are City Search, True Local and Yellow Pages Online. Make sure to look into the conversion rates and traffic generation made possible by these service to make sure you are making good use of your advertising budget.<\/p>\n
