Seeing the vending machines we have all around us today, we can sometimes forget what they were like in the past. As with most things in our society, the have evolved over time. New ideas emerge from the old and the advances in technology certainly help as well. The first ones came about in London in the 1880’s. They first held only post cards and then books as well.<\/p>\n

It was in 1888 that vending machines were introduced in the United States. They distributed gum in various subway stations of New York and Chicago. There were many different styles of vending machines that emerged in the early 1900’s. One of them that consumers immediately took to was the round gumball machine that we still see out there today.<\/p>\n

From 1902 until 1962 a Philadelphia location called Horn & Hardart had a restaurant with a unique feature – all of the food and drink items came out of vending machines. This was a very original idea and attracted people who were traveling through the area. They all wanted to get a glimpse of what it entailed.<\/p>\n

The well known soda companies we still love today known as Coke and Pepsi were the big buyers of vending machines in the 1940’s. These were the first ones around to begin dispensing the well known soft drinks. All of them were in glass bottles. You don’t see those anymore as what is offered is in cans and plastic bottles.<\/p>\n

These vending machines featured many differences from what we know today. For example they had glass bottles of soda in them. There weren’t any cans or plastic bottles to choose from. The glass bottles were dispenses sideways from the machine after you put money in and released the lever. Then you could take the lid off and drink it from the bottle.<\/p>\n

The designs of vending machines have changed a great deal since they were first introduced. The great thing about our society is that you can easily make changes based on what has already been done. Advancement is something that you can see taking place in this industry. Just take a look at the designs now compared to years ago and you know what I mean.<\/p>\n

There are vending machines that offer food, supplies for any specialty location such as the swimming pool or when you are going fishing, pictures, books, newspapers, and much more. You can find just about anything you wish to buy in them these days and that is good news<\/a>. It means you can easily access what you want without having to wait in a line or experiencing the store being closed.<\/p>\n

If you haven’t really notice the icon vending machines around you try to do so. See what the details are that make it more enticing, what is offers, and the operational features of it. If you are in the vending machine business then you need to know all of that so you can decide which types of vending machines to invest in. Older ones do get replaced but plenty of the very early vending machines are sought after by collectors willing to pay a premium.<\/p>\n
