Today’s society thrives based on getting everything for free- and mobile phone ringtones are no different. Getting the latest MP3 “true tone” ringtones usually costs cell phone owners a pretty penny- but those who are tech-savvy enough will get them absolutely free. Although many different methods are possible, a few in particular are the most beneficial.

Oddly enough, some mobile phone companies are so strict that they won’t even allow third party content on client cell phones. North American citizens will recognize U.S. Cellular as one of the major proponents of this rule. Although they claim it is in the best interest of the customer, most say that they actually just want all the profits of mobile phone ringtone downloads for themselves.

Technologies that have allowed computers and devices to communciate without wires is also helping mobile phone users get their ringtones and content for no fee. Even those under rule of restriction of third party content can hook up to other devices via wireless technologies, and trasnfer content for absolutely no cost. USB connections and infrared connections may also help the situation.

Copyright infringement is a major topic in obtaining ringtones. Bands and artists don’t like not receiving royalties, but their record labels are even more enraged they aren’t earning a commission. Some websites give away free ringtones simply because the country in which hosts the website and creator doesn’t have strict copyright laws. Keep in mind, however, downloading them can still get one in trouble if their own country’s laws are more strict.

Some computer programs will allow free cell phone ringtones to be obtained as well. In this instance the consumer will need to have the music they want as a ringtone already in their library. By sectioning off a certain part of the song and converting it to the required format, one can obtain a ringtone from their own library for absolutely no cost. With a little searching, such programs can be found for free as well.

Just turning on the television, one can see how many ringtone scams there are in the industry. Many commercials state that free ringtones can be obtained by calling a certain number or texting a certain location. Either way, the fine print on the bottom of the screen better be read, because 99% of the time there are going to be fees associated with the “free” ringtone.

Final Thoughts

Getting free ringtones for your cell phone isn’t hard if you know what you’re doing- but it can indeed be time consuming to get what one wants. Friends don’t always have a certain song, and Internet websites may not always have a special spot of the song one enjoys. In such times, it’s often best to make a new ringtone from scratch or give in to settling for less.
