Then, when they come up with a product or service for that niche, they do lots of market research to make sure they’ve got a winning — and profitable — business idea.<\/p>\n

Follow these three steps if you want to avoid this deadly mistake when starting your internet home business.<\/p>\n

Step #1: Make a list of your interests and passions<\/p>\n

You are far more likely to be successful if you base your internet home business on something you are already knowledgable about.<\/p>\n

You won’t be motivated to stick with a business that you are not interested in. Let your interest and passions guide you when choosing a niche market.<\/p>\n

You can find unique skills a variety of ways. Knowing how to pass the exam required to be a paramedic is a skill on which an internet business could be started. Think of your own unique experiences. Maybe you collect stamps or sew quilts – these are all examples of unique niche markets.<\/p>\n

You should sit down and create a list of all of your jobs, hobbies, interests, volunteer work and any challenging situations you have overcome in your life. You will see this is a good place to start…don’t be modest!<\/p>\n

Once you have your list narrowed down to a few areas that are of most interest to you, you are ready start your market research.<\/p>\n

Step #3: Find your niche<\/p>\n

When it comes to finding a niche market, you’ve got to think small if you want to find big profit potential.<\/p>\n

A small, untapped and specialized niche market can be the source of big revenie online.<\/p>\n

On the Internet, a niche market is a group of people who are searching to solve a common problem but not finding many (or any) relevant results.<\/p>\n

People do not usually go online to buy (at least right away), but to find answers to a problem.<\/p>\n

The basis for your successful internet home business will be when you find the group of people who are looking to solve the same problem without much luck. This will be your “hidden treasure”.<\/p>\n

If you think small you will avoid finding a market saturated with competition like you would in a large, general market.<\/p>\n

So be patient and explore all the possible avenues. You’ve got to drill down, down, and down again — until you finally strike gold!<\/p>\n

Where are these markets?<\/p>\n

You can find out exactly what people are searching for online by using a simple tool, such as BeBiz. Are people searching for your potential product and not finding it? You may have just found your niche!<\/p>\n

Starting your internet home business in this manner will ensure you know there is a market of potential customers out there who want your product…all before you spend any time or money. When you think you have your niche you still need to validate the market before running out and creating the next hot product.<\/p>\n

Step #3: Validating a market<\/p>\n

To validate your market you need to confirm it has profit potential. Can you actually make money from it?<\/p>\n

Ask yourself these four questions to find out:<\/p>\n

1. Is the market easily defined and reachable? Most potential markets will already have places where they congregate. Online groups, forums, discussion boards, clubs, and special websites will give you the opportunity to analyze who exactly your potential customers are.<\/p>\n

Once you know who they are, you’ll have a much better idea of whether they’ll buy from you.<\/p>\n

2. Are there few competitors in the market and is the market big enough to be profitable?<\/p>\n

The market needs to have enough people in it to make it worth your while, but small enough so that not a lot of competitors have already moved in. If you find a lot of competition who are well supplied, well established and well funded – this is not a good market! Keep drilling down looking for a smaller, more defined niche.<\/p>\n

3. Are your customers willing to spend their money with you?<\/p>\n

You need to know if these people actually buy stuff… so it’s a good sign if there’s some competition already selling products to the market. You’ll have a much harder job selling to people if there are too many free products or free sites available.<\/p>\n

4. Is your niche willing to spend money on your product in order to solve their problem?<\/p>\n

You want a potential market that is so passionate about their interest that they eat, sleep and breath it. They will want ALL the information they can get on the subject.<\/p>\n

People who are obsessive about their passions, such as video gamers or stamp collectors make a profitable market!<\/p>\n

Final thoughts<\/p>\n

When starting your internet home business it is essential you follow these three steps. If you find a niche market based on your passions you will be able to create a business you are motivated to make work. If you validate your market before you create a product, you can be confident you internet business will be profitable.<\/p>\n
