Crops, straw or hay are systematically compressed into bales in order to bind them together with the help of baler in agriculture.

For the purpose of harvesting agriculture, equipment is employed called ‘hay baler’. With the help of this equipment crops are cut and gathered to make hay for feeding the cattle. It is also useful to cut hay and finally it is compressed into square or round shape of bales that occupy less space and make transportation easy.

Hay balers have some advantages to be convenient for easy transport and its storage capacity; it has to be taken care. Large round bales do not get affected by rain because rain runs off the sides because of their round size. Therefore they are safe to place them outside in the farm. Small square bales of 18-32 kg have to be sheltered from rain not to get damaged.

Initially bales were dropped down on the floor and their twines were removed by hand. After drying the haystack, the tightly compacted balers required to be torn apart for use. Recently, this manual bale handling process is made easy by a bale shredder with its rotary cutting teeth. So farmers can take benefit of this bale shredder.

Balers are used in industries to compact byproducts or waste such as office paper. They normally compress the loaded materials. They are also used in recycling companies in order to reuse the items for the production in future. Balers are made of steel with hydraulic operation.

Plastics and metals are also compacted with the help of baler. In industries, oils or liquids are often extracted from metals by using baler. Moreover, recycling facilities are required for reusing material. Scrap metal is recycled into new sheet metal is a nice example that is used in automobiles.

About the Author:

This article is published by Cort Walberg in public interest.
