I guess it is a little laughable to see the flurry of activity that is inevitable in the growing Green economy. There are a number of companies who finally realize that this is going to impact their business and so they make the shift to Green more out of necessity than commitment to the cause. Of course, after they have shifted to a few Green elements, they want the credit<\/a> for being a responsible Green citizen of the world. I get it….<\/p>\n

There will be the hypocrisy as some people and companies mask their singular drive for profits by pretending to be Green and even promoting themselves to be Green. This is the trend called “Greenwashing” where there is either a purposeful or subtle form of deception at work.<\/p>\n

As the Green economy grows, those in the janitorial business will also want to appeal to the Green business opportunities coming their way. We will find that the first stage is a simplication effort that provides enough justification for their claims to a Green service. This is done by purchasing a line of Green products that now adorn their janitorial carts. Oddly, this seems all that is required to be a Green janitorial service although their workers may be clueless about Green practices.<\/p>\n

Regardless of the folly, there are presently janitorial firms who believe that they are a truly Green service because they have purchased Green products. Green does not come in a bottle, and it should be obvious that janitorial firms are taken the easiest path to a somewhat selfish end. Cloaking standard service with Green ornaments is deceptive.<\/p>\n

Training and certification brings an independent third party into play that will certify that a firm has met a basic standard of conformity to good practices. Green Clean Institute does not sell products nor operate a janitorial service on the side. It is an educational and independent certifier of reputable Green services.<\/p>\n

In the full blossom of the Green service industry, there will arise those services that are willing to go the extra mile of training and certification to prove that they have the commitment to the cause. Green janitorial services may happen on their own, but how do we know the Green service from the Greenwashed service? Though there is no 100% guarantee, training and certification will bring forth the best to shine like the moon against the stars by comparison.<\/p>\n

Janitorial services are no longer about sweeping floors and taking out the trash. A great variety of duties and responsibilities have been added to the standard duties of the janitorial workforce. But, consider the magnitude of this transition to Green practices. There are over one million<\/a> janitorial workers in the US, and though they are expected to raise the level of service, they are often the least trained and equipped to do the job. If we are going to pass regulations demanding Green services, there must be the training and certification of those who carry the responsibility.<\/p>\n
