There are now far more adults pursuing college and graduate school degrees than ever in history.

There are several reasons for this trend. One is that online education offers adults the opportunity to continue their education without neglecting their career or other obligations.

The greatly increased availabilty of financial aid is another major reason for the increased number of working adults in college.

Another factor responsible for the growing number of adults returning to higher education is the greatly increased acceptance of online degrees. Several recent surveys have found that employers are more likely than in past years to view an online degree as being valuable.

Just as online college programs are now frequently accepted as being equivalent to traditional, campus-based degrees, the awarding of college credit for life experience has enjoyed increasing acceptance in recent years. As a result, time-to-degree has been reduced for many adults. So has the cost.

And, it’s not just online colleges that are enrolling more adults. Traditional colleges are growing by making it possible for working adults to earn a degree by attending evening and/or weekend classes.

Accessibility, affordability, the increased credibility of online degrees, and several other factors have all played a major role in the swelling number of adults pursuing degrees. However, the biggest factor driving adults back to education appears to be the need to stay current in the increasingly fast-paced world of work.

Advice on What to Wear to an Interview.

As it well known, first impressions are always important. During the interview most interviewers have already made an impression about the candidate within initial 10 seconds. As a result, the way you dress for the interview is decisive to this first impression. Most corporate-recruiting experts would agree with this idea.

The outfits should ideally not be overly casual or flashy. Indeed the most important point is that you should be clean and neat. Wear an outfit that fits you properly and suits your body type. Wearing un-pressed clothes give the interviewer the impression that you do not care about your appearance and would not be good for your chances of obtaining the position.

The traditional suit is one of the best choices for wearing to an interview for both men and women. It should be restrained and quietly stylish. The suit has been seen as a symbol of prestige, power and confidence for many years. It also suggests that the wearer is successful. Because of this, it should contribute to your presence in any interview.

It should not be a problem if the suit is black or coloured. What is more important is that the colour should be conservative and the design should be simple. It should ideally be entirely of one colour. Be aware that in some countries, certain cultural beliefs do not allow the wearing of a completely black outfit. This can be overcome by the wearing of a contrasting shirt or blouse with the suit, such as a pale blue or white. A black suit is generally the best choice as it looks conservative and will suit most body types.

Accessories – Apart from the suit, accessories can also be worn. The rule for accessories is the same ? they should be stylish but not flashy. They should just act as enhancements for the body and not be of themselves obvious.

Women need to be more circumspect regarding their choice of accessories. Some may find that they have to remove items that they normally wear, such as body piercings, large earrings or chunky bracelets. Women can wear some jewellery, provided it is not a distraction. Footwear is also important. It should be well made and should be of a design that provides the proper support to the feet. You should be able to walk in them and be comfortable. Shoes should not slip from your feet. As such, the best choice of footwear is closed in or lace up shoes with a modest heel for women.

Job Interview Questions You Should Ask.

At the conclusion of an interview, you may be asked, “Do you have any questions for us?” You may think that the obvious answer to this question is “No, thank you”, but this is not the expected answer at all. By answering negatively, you may have just lost the opportunity to ask some vital questions that could make a difference in interviewer’s opinion of you as a candidate. Asking questions in return demonstrates that you are interested in obtaining this job and you are aware of the company issues, which in turn makes a good impression of you as a potential employee.

You should ask relevant and specific questions. To enable you to ask such questions you must have all the background information about the job and company. Thorough preparation is required for such a task. To start, you must gather all appropriate data from the company web sites, magazines, brochures. Complete research is critical if you intend to ask questions of the interviewer that will impress. Request a copy of company policy, trading and business strategies and other issues to enable you highlight important points, from which you can ask some clever and thought provoking questions of the job interviewer. This will alert the interviewer to the fact that you have made enough research and preparation for the job on offer. Study the employment terms and conditions carefully and ask for clarifications of any issues you may have. This will indicate that you are concerned about the job and related issues.

Some of the more important questions you should ask are as along the lines of: “As there are many companies setting up in this sector at this point in time, how has this organization been able to successfully maintain its growth rate and continue to appoint new staff members?” To this, the response should be extremely favorable and the interviewer should then explain to you what strategy the company is intending to follow in such situations and thus provides you with the insider’s point of view.

You can ask questions concerning your particular job, such as “Could you explain how this particular job has been executed in the past?” and “What are the enhancements you would want to see take place? To this the interviewer should inform you of the expertise involved in that job by giving you some particular examples. Then you must convince the interviewer that you have what the company is looking for, giving you an advantage.

You may wish to verify that you will indeed suit this position by enquiring about particular challenges you may have to face over the near future. The interviewer should show admiration for such a probing question and should therefore inform you of the company expectations of you as you embark upon this project.

From these questions an interviewer should obtain a clear perception of how prepared and alert you are. If the interviewer is impressed you will gain credence, therefore asking the right kinds of questions is a strategy that should ensure success.

Any public speaker understands that it is important to win over your audience from the very beginning. This means speaking in such a way that your audience is forced to focus on you, especially when you begin speaking. Not just anyone has the attributes to be a good public speaker. This raises the anticipation level in the audience with them knowing to expect something valuable to be told to them. You could also start off by telling your audience a fascinating story. That will really captivate and hold your audience’s attention. If you are an enthusiastic speaker this is especially true.

If you are new to public speaking, you can learn how to start a speech, by listening to those who are experts at it. By paying attention to those who have done it for years, you’ll be able to pick up a trick or two, and improve your delivery.

The key to any great speech is by starting off with a great speech introduction and then going forward, keeping your audience in mind, and giving them a reason to listen to what you have to say. The more you do this, the more you’ll find your public speaking ability increasing and the more speaking opportunities you’ll gain.
