I want you to know right now that you are not in the speaking business! You are in the business of marketing your speaking services. Your talent or message will only take you so far but when you learn to become a top-notch marketer, your public speaking business will literally explode!

Early in my motivational speaking career, I would see mediocre speakers get public speaking jobs that even I couldn’t obtain. Worse yet, I would see these speakers get job after job while I scratched my head. I had a friend, John and I’ll tell you that he was a great speaker – one of the best. Unfortunately, he didn’t last too long in public speaking. He said that he couldn’t figure out how to get bookings for motivational speaking and was not making enough money to support his family. I started to wonder what these other guys were doing that John and I weren’t. Today, I know one thing. I make a ton of money in my motivational speaking career not because I’m a great speaker, but because I am a great marketer. Here are some tips to help you do just that.

1) The first thing to remember when starting a motivational speaking business is to fill your bank account instead of filling your ego. Have the mindset to go after jobs that put money in your pocket instead of focusing on fame and stardom. Believe me. If you do enough seminars and speaking engagements, fame and stardom is inevitable in your motivational speaking career.

2) You need to teach people how to give you money. The hosts and conference planners don’t always know what you need or want. Their main goal is to put on an amazing conference or seminar and it’s guaranteed that they aren’t focused on putting money in your pocket. Because of that very reason you need to teach people how to give you money. Show the conference planner how they can give the book for free by including the price of it in the registration fee or you could pre-sell you book. Or you can pre-sell merchandise and offer back o the room merchandise. Don’t ever be afraid to go after the big money.

3) One idea can make all the difference. If you’re wondering how to make money with motivational speaking, know that one idea is all you really need to get started. Do different things to help you generate the ideas you need and then be prepared to take action on them.

4) You should never stop learning. In fact I will help you learn multiple proven, contested formulas that will attract continuous and unlimited wealth so that you can live stress free and live exactly how you want to live each and every day. You need to not only work right, but you need to work smart. You need to learn to use strategies that work instead of trying to work those get-rich-quick schemes that end disastrously.

As simple as this sounds, often you’ll find people who claim they never advertise or self-promote. I think not marketing yourself is the comparable to shooting yourself in the foot.

Your muscles when injured may also have the muscle fibers break into short units. This reduces their flexibility. The muscles need to be more pliable by elongating the muscle fibers. Trade shows are a great place to show new products and services. They are also are a great place to view new products, meet possibly client and mingle with colleagues. Many trade show exhibitors leave the convention hall feeling disappointed about what they received for their hard earn dollars. There are many reasons why they feel this way. Here are some of the reason why they do.

Some of the main reasons for failures are as follows: The exhibitor did no preshow marketing: word of caution, never exhibit at any trade show without doing preshow marketing. Do not just rely on foot traffic at the show alone, help it along. Attendees are looking for certain companies. They know of these companies through preshow marketing.

The next reason for failure is that your trade show booth is not up to par: You have to show up to a trade shows ready to do business. Your trade show booth should look the part. In other words make sure your booth is attractive and well suited for the environment. It should not just be attractive but it should attract attendees to your product.

Reason three, your company used no promotional l material: You show up to the show without any promotional material, this is a no no. Your promotional material should well thought-out; it should be DVD, Brochure or some sort of promotional items educating attendees about your company and products. How else will someone remember your company and or your product?

Reason four lack of a trained staff: You booth staff should be well groomed and product savvy. You should have a schedule clearly defining who is working the booth from what hour to what hour. They should be well versed to handle any sales questions that may come up.

Reason five you provided no giveaway item at the show: Believe it or not people like free things. Provide some sort of product giveaway that relates to your business. This helps the attendee remember your booth and most of all your company.

Lack of lead follow ups are also another factor that can make a trade show seem bad. Always follow up on trade show leads in a timely manner. Never just expect a potential client to call you first. These leads are the ones that turn into sales.

I certainly can understand if attendance was down at the show, but yet if done correct your company should be able to leave that show or event with some sort of leads. Your product should have been seen. If Pepsi Cola enters the auto show and never gave away anything, had no promotional items, I am certain they would not be a splash at that event. Any trade show you enter you should be able to leave an impression about your company.

Public relations is no longer something that just happens; how a company or corporation is perceived in the public eye, particularly in the eye of the company’s shareholders or potential customers, isn’t something that’s left to chance. Public relations is kind of like advertising’s less obtrusive brother. A company can donate either time or money to a charitable cause or they could hold a charity event to raise money for a particular cause. Potential customers and share holders want to know if a company cares, and they want to know what it is that the company cares about and supports.

Another approach to public relations is to have a company representative speak at an industry conference or seminar. Though I’ve just pointed out some of the negatives of a press release, that doesn’t mean that it’s not a very effective tool of public relations. A press release mat not be personal, and it may or may not leave small questions in the minds of some readers, but what it can do is reach a tremendous amount of people giving them a good idea of your mission statement or telling them of a recent award or accomplishment of the company. A well written press release can reach thousands of thousands of people that wouldn’t have known of your accomplishment any other way – and press releases come at a much cheaper price than any form of advertising. You’d never be able to reach the same portion of your target audience with public speaking as you would with a high quality press release.

A company’s image can mean everything – one big negative event, even if it’s only perceived as a negative event in the public eye, can literally destroy a company. If a company or organization wants to become successful and stay successful, it has to build up and protect its positive image – the only way to really do that effectively is through good public relations.

If we reflect on the memorable moments of receiving excellent service, we will find that the person serving us was most attentive. They made us feel that we were the most important person in the world simply because they paid attention to meeting our needs. Remember that vast majority of customers enjoy playing the role of a customer simply because of the anticipated attention they are hoping to receive.

Teach these five excellent traits into your training and begin to see your service improve instantly. Your team will begin to outshine the competition and your customers will also become your best advertisers simply because of the exceptional service received.
