4 Things to Think Of When in Search of Venture Capital Funding

by Wes Geoffrey

As a business start-up, entrepreneurs often need quite a bit of money to get the business started properly. More often than not, they do not have the money needed to pursue their dreams. It is at that point that the need for venture capital funding is required. A venture capitalist brings money to the entrepreneur in exchange for a share of future profits.

Banking Verses Venture

Venture capital financing is quite different than obtaining bank loans. With a bank loan, there is an expectation initially to pay the money back on a monthly basis with interest. On the other hand, venture capitalists, who are often called angel investors, provide money to entrepreneurs trying to raise money by providing it directly. However, the payback comes much later with a deal to get often three to five times the investment, or part ownership in the company.

Don’t Waste Time Hunting Them Down Yourself

You may be asking yourself, where do I look to find a venture capitalist? Sometimes it’s just a matter of who you know. There are companies who specialize in approaching and lining up venture capital financing for businesses. Don’t be afraid to seek out financing by this route, it will cut out lots of wasted time and effort on your part in seeking out financing. You need to be concentrating on your business.

Entrepreneurs can approach the venture investors, but it can be a long and drawn out process. You may talk to a hundred investors before you actually find the one who is willing to invest in your project. It may take a numerous business meetings, conference calls, business plan revisions, with a number of venture investment companies before you actually find the one who will fund your business.

Create A Proper Business Plan

One of the first things that a venture capital investor will need is a business plan. The business plan gives a timeline. In the timeline, it generally provides a ballpark idea on the financial outlay required and how long it will take to get a return on investment.

Final Thoughts on Venture Funding

Venture capitalists vary in the way that they approach your business. Some have a hands-on approach and will make sure that every penny of the finances is spent properly. Some are more laid back, and even more leeway. But in the end, investors want to see a profitable enterprise taking off. Stay focused on the business plan, be open to advice from your investors, and go about making your business successful.

Are Mutual Funds a Good Way to Invest for Your Future?

by Amy Nutt

For individuals just getting involved in the game of investing, there is a lot of wonder circulating around mutual funds. Certain questions such as, “What are the risks associated with mutual funds?” and “Are they a good investment?” are questions that are frequently asked amongst investors. However, it is good to ask these questions because asking questions about mutual funds shows that a person means serious business when it comes to investing. All investors want the best return they can possibly get on their investment, so exploring the many options available are important. When it comes to mutual funds, there are many options. That is why it is good to know at least the basics.

The basics

Mutual funds consists of money from many different investors that is pooled together and invested into short-term money markets, stocks, bonds, various other assets or securities, or maybe even a combination of any of these. Each investor owns a portion of the holdings that the fund possesses and the income that is generated from these holdings.

There are several factors that distinguish mutual funds from other types of funds. Those factors are:

– The shares are purchased from the actual fund instead of from other investors via such avenues as NASDAQ or NYSE.

– The purchase price is the price per share plus any fees imposed by the fund at the time. These are commonly referred to as shareholder fees.

– When selling the shares, you are selling them back to the fund.

– New investors are accommodated through the creation of new funds that can be sold to them.

– Investment advisors that are registered with the SEC are typically who takes care of mutual funds.

Advantages and disadvantages

There are advantages and disadvantages to mutual funds. The advantages include:

– Diversification of your portfolio – This is important in investing because a diversified portfolio has better earning potential.

– They are affordable – There is a high degree of affordability when it comes to mutual funds. Dollar amounts can be set low for purchases, giving lower income individuals the ability to invest.

– Managed professionally – There are professionals who are constantly monitoring the performance of these mutual funds and always looking for the best investments for the fund in order to maximize its return to its investors.

– Liquidity – Investors are able to redeem their shares at the current NAV. This is in addition to any fees or charges assessed at that time.

The advantages make it clear that a mutual fund can be a great investment, but like any type of investment there are some disadvantages that come along with them as well. Those disadvantages include:

– There are annual fees, charges for sales, and other fees associated with them. It doesn’t matter how the fund performs. These costs still apply. Taxes also have to be paid on gains. This refers to any distributions received even if the fund performed poorly.

– Investors do not control their shares. The make-up of the portfolio is decided by the manager of the fund.

– There is uncertainty that surrounds the price of shares. It isn’t like how you can follow regular shares of stock in real-time during trading hours. There is a delay in you finding out what your share is within a mutual fund since you are sharing the fund with other investors.

So now that you see the advantages and the disadvantages, you can decide which way to go. However, you have to weigh them against each other. An example: Although you don’t have control, the fund is under professional control. Mutual funds have helped put money in people’s pockets, so mutual funds can be a great way to invest for your future. Just make sure you find a fund that performs well.

Getting the Most Out of You Ad Campaign

by Dennis Gartland II

With proper testing, education and methodology you too can be guaranteed results from your advertising.

The first viable return on investment from your advertising is an inquiry for your product or service. It may be an email, a phone call or a visit to a store.

In any case this is just an inquiry for the goods or service. This is real evidence your advertising is working and generating a return on investment.

But, in either case, it is just an Inquiry for the goods, of one sort or another. It is the first practical evidence that the money spent is earning something tangible in return.

When she talks to a retailer it there are 2 to 3 times as many chances of substitution. The salesperson may try to sell the customer a higher commission item or the one that is in stock. Whereas if the customer orders online or by phone there is less of a chance of substitution.

But, when he does inquire verbally from a Retailer, there are twice or three times as many chances of substitution, of Don’t-keep-it Or Here’s-something-better. As there would have been if that same Consumer had written direct for it by Mail.

If the ad fails to convince the consumers with a “Reason why” and conviction it could direct him to a retail store where they are switched to a competing brand, the retailer is overstocked in, or that the salesman prefers. In which case we would be helping our competitor’s bottom line. Half the money spent to keep the brand on people’s minds results in the substitution of non-advertised goods for the advertised through General advertising. The ad must therefore give them a better Reason to buy your goods than he is likely to get from the Salesperson for the competitions goods that Salesman will want to substitute. It must give him this reason in such lucid thought-form that he can comprehend without effort, so impressively that he will believe our reasoning Claims. It must accomplish this in spite of his natural distrust of all Advertisement statements.

The ad must give them a better reason to buy our product or service than he is likely to get from the Salesperson for the competitions goods that Salesman will want to substitute. It must give him this reason in such undeniable form that he can comprehend without effort, so absolutely that he will believe our reasoning Claims. It must accomplish this in spite of his natural distrust of all Ads statements. Therefore not more than 1/4 of those who, out of mere curiosity, buy the first package, through “branding” ever buy the 2nd or 3rd consecutive package of the same product. Because they do not buy on Conviction In the Meantime, it usually takes about all the profit in the first purchase of any “branding campaign” to pay the cost of introducing it to the Consumer through Advertising.

In contrast to general publicity “Reason-Why Advertising” or Salesmanship-on-Paper, ROI is predictable. Consumers need only be convinced 1 time, through “Reason why advertising” or “Salesmanship- on-paper,” we thus convince him, and more than fortifying him against substitution.

With reason why advertising they begin using the article with an advance knowledge of, and belief in, its good points, his appreciation becomes permanent if the goods merit it. He therefore makes a second, third, and further consecutive purchases of the article as a result of having once read a single convincing “Reason-Why” advertisement about it.

The consumer will become a regular buyer of the product because he first read or heard about it in a reason why advertisement. Repeat customers are much more profitable than new ones.

He therefore makes a second, third, and further consecutive purchases of the article as a result of having once read a single convincing Reason Why advertisement about it. This is where large and cumulative profits must come to the General Advertiser-on the second, third and continued purchases by Readers of the first advertisement that reached their Convictions.

The difference in Results from Space in which this direct selling force of “Reason-Why” has been used, and in results from similar space filled with “General Publicity,” is often more than 60 per cent. Conclusive tests on Copy have clearly proved this, and preceding article cites a vivid example of it from actual experience

Guaranteeing advertising Results

The customer may take direct action and order by phone or online. If the customer visits a store there is three times the chance the she will be influenced by competing products. There may be less expensive alternatives or the salesman may earn a higher commission on other products. The copy must stand up to this influence.

The ad that directs consumers to a retail store should have as much conviction in its copy as a successful mail order advertisement. Otherwise lower price and something better sales tactics will affect the consumer.

Therefore, the Advertisement which sends Consumers to Retailers, should be as full of Conviction as the successful Mail-Order Advertisement, in order to fortify that Consumer against substitution, Don?t keep it, and Here’s-something-better.

This is why not more than a fourth of those who, out of mere curiosity, buy the first package, through “General Publicity,” ever buy the second or third consecutive package of the same article. Because they do not buy on Conviction In the Meantime, it usually takes about all the profit in the first purchase of any “Generally Advertised” article to pay the cost of introducing it to the Consumer’s notice, through Advertising.

In contrast to branding “Reason-Why Advertising” or Salesmanship-on-Paper, results are insured and far more predictable. Consumers need only be convinced one time, through “Reason why advertising” or “Salesmanship- on-paper,” the product or service is best for them and their use.

Because, through General Publicity, his attention had only been “attracted,” not compelled and enduringly impressed with a logical understanding of these qualities. But, when once convinced in advance of purchase, through “Reason-Why” Salesmanship-in- Type, that the qualities claimed for the article do exist in them, he starts using that article with a mental acceptance of these qualities.

We also help his imagination to find and recognize, in the article advertised, the very qualities claimed and proved for it in the Copy. These qualities he might never have discovered for himself, nor appreciated if he had casually discovered them, in a mere Curiosity purchase.

Why Every LLC Needs An Operating Agreement

by Attorney Bob Montgomery

Starting an LLC involves several steps. The first one is to file Articles of Organization with the State Filing Office (SFO). Once this is done, the people starting an LLC should prepare and sign an Operating Agreement. A few states refer to them as a Limited Liability Company Agreements. Although an Operating Agreement is not required in most states, it is still highly recommended that all LLC’s have a written Operating Agreement. Some states even allow oral ones but these are hard to enforce.

An Operating Agreement is essential in maintaining the liability protection of an LLC and in preventing disagreements between the members. I have witnessed bitter disputes between family members and friends concerning the details of operating a business because nothing was written down when they started out. When that happens, people often have different memories of what they agreed to in the first place.

The preparation of an Operating Agreement helps strengthen the liability protection of the LLC in the sense that it helps demonstrate or prove that the LLC is being operated as a separate legal entity even if there is only one member of the LLC.

The Operating Agreement acts as a contract among or between each member of the LLC and also between the members and the LLC as a separate legal entity. The Operating Agreement is similar to the bylaws of a corporation or the partnership agreement of a general partnership. Each document controls the internal management of the entity. The Operating Agreement itself is not a document that has to be filed with the SFO but the original should be kept with the other LLC documents and records.

There is no set or required format for an Operating Agreement. They come in many different formats. Some are long (anywhere from 10 to 40 pages long) and some are much shorter. The standard Operating Agreement will contain a certain amount of boiler plate language but also some very important provisions with respect to the rights, duties and obligations of the members of the LLC.

A basic Operating Agreement will set forth whether the LLC will be managed by the members (owners) or by certain other individuals or entities as managers. Furthermore, the Operating Agreement usually establishes the ownership percentages or sharing ratios between the members of the LLC and will set forth such things as the division of profits and the distribution of income.

It is highly advisable for even one person or single member LLC’s to have a written operating agreement. Some may wonder why. The first reason is that if a one person LLC doesn’t have some fdocumentation, it appears too much like a sole proprietorship which has no liability protection. In addition, it should be remembered that the single member owner is not signing an Operating Agreement with himself. He is signing the Operating Agreement with a separate and distinct legal entity, the LLC.

General Information About MySpace Layouts

by Chris Channing

It is common to stumble upon Myspace pages that are adorned with fantastic images, and backgrounds and themes. These are called “Myspace layouts” and are what make a page, totally unique. With a bit of browsing you can find something quickly, and install it easily. This article will discuss Myspace layouts in greater depth.

Hyper Text Markup Language is a special computer language that allows coders to create beautiful layout designs. Myspace only supports HTML as a legitimate format though, so make sure your layout that you choose fits that. Experienced and non-experienced users alike create these layouts. The fancier the more experience you need. Basic HTML is simple and easy to learn, so many people take it up to create their own layouts.

If you don’t like what other people create, start learning to create your own! They are easy to create, and it gives you a sense of pride knowing that you can write up your own Myspace layout. Html codes are read differently by different systems and browsers. I know that Firefox hates DIV overlay layouts, and Internet Explorer loves them.

If you have trouble trying to learn HTML or want your own layout right away, you can always request one from a creator. Many layout artists are happy to fill a custom request. If you like pickled pigs feet with whipped cream, someone is bound to be able to design a Myspace layout based on that. Most Myspace layout designers can make any style, fashion, interest, hobby, band, artist, actress, or actor based layout.

Createblog, Whateverlife, Skem9, and many more sites have an endless number of pages filled with layouts. Ask designers on Myspace if they would mind creating a custom design for you, and ask friends. Its all about using your resources that are available, and searching for the right person, theme, or designer. Its important to note that layouts are property of the creator. “Stealing” it or “jocking” is rude, and illegal in some cases.

Why Myspace Clocks and Counters are Great for Your Profile

by Chris Channing

Myspace clocks and counters are a rapidly growing popularity. Many people obsessed with “tracking” place these on their Myspace profiles for all to see. Clocks measure the time wherever they live, which is pretty neat if they have friends or family around the world. Counters are cool for displaying how many page views you have had.

If you are the kind of person that likes to share information, clocks and counters a simple way to do so. Clocks can vary from thing to thing, but a lot of them are designed with all users in mind. Clocks can display times from around the entire globe at once, or just your local time zone. You can use them to measure individual time zone times, or just as an informational tool. Some clocks are available to use as a countdown. They display the time, and then a short countdown to a birthday or event. Counters are usually used by those who get a lot of page views and want to display that. Popularity is an important trend amongst Myspacers and everyone is fighting for the most “page views”. In a world that places importance on how many viewers you get.this can be an important tool.

A Google search for “Myspace clocks” or “Myspace counters” will return thousands, if not millions of results. The sites in which you can get these nifty flash objects are popping up everywhere. Myspacers love to add these things to their pages, so website owners meet that demand. Pyzam.com is a great site for all kinds of flash objects and other Myspace toys.

If you have trouble installing, there are several places that can offer tutorials on how to insert your flash code. Its generally pretty simple, just a matter of copying and pasting what you want and where you want it. Larger sized flash objects should never go in the side modules, however.

Everyone on Myspace likes to express their individuality and uniqueness. Choosing a clock or counter that reflects who you are is important. There are never ending options available, so never be afraid to try a new design, or style.

So you want to know about Skinny Layouts?

by Chris Channing

Skinny layouts are one of the hottest things to hit the layout designer world. They usually have tiny miniature modules that are less than half of the size of original sized layouts. It is important to note that they are amazingly wonderful for organization purposes. The small modules force you to keep everything clean and concise, instead of misplaced.

Why would anyone want a layout that is all scrunched up and hard to read? Because its clean. Some people prefer to have tiny organized text, versus large glaring text and modules. Skinny layouts make it easy for people who like organization, to keep things organized. Sure you might not be able to read the 6 to 8 point font, but at least its not overwhelmingly huge text either. Skinny layouts are often seen as “scene” and “fashionable”. Trendy people flock for these layouts, and love using them!

Guys generally are not the ones using these layouts. The majority of skinny layouts are targeted towards the female sex. Its often fun to think about who creates these beautiful things that we all seem to love. Its pretty simple, most people know a bit of HTML, and a lot of girls like to create them for friends. Things start to expand, then suddenly that one person is creating one every day! Myspace, face book, xanga, and many other social networking sites have designers that always make layouts. Most of these people, generally girls, will be more than happy to code a one of a kind layout. There is an endless number of options available, and its all up to you on what you choose!

As with most things, there are some “setbacks” with using a skinny layout. The modules are miniature, so they cannot hold as much wide text, images, graphics, or such. Keep this in mind when plotting out your page design, and the aspect ratios. Some monitors may not display these layouts correctly as well. Also, designers make the common error of allowing overflow in their coding. Overflow problems can look REALLY messy, so watch for that when editing and saving. Video embedding or profile game embedding is not recommended for these styles. Unless you can adjust the sizes, then simply do not use them.

Skinny layouts can be downloaded or “copied and pasted” from almost any website. My favorite is probably Createblog.com and looking for individual designers. Individual designers often offer better options and choices than just “mainstream” ones. Createblog offers tons of free options! Just ask around, a lot of designers are willing to create slim line layouts and for all of your skinny layout needs!

Closing Comments

Online social networking sites are always being modified to allow customization. The default pages are generally boring, and a Skinny Layout can really vamp things up. Get creative and have fun!
