Taking online payments does have its challenges, however. One of the downfalls of using credit cards online is the possibility of credit card fraud. This fraud can happen in two different ways. The first involves the company on whose website you are making the payment. The company could be fraudulent by taking the payment but not delivering the products. The company also could use the details that you provide about your credit card for fraudulent activities.

Another type of fraud happens when criminals use different types of software and devices to steal the details of credit card payments as you put them in the website’s payment form. This software typically is known as spyware and the criminals installing it are spies. Spyware works by capturing your typing and taking pictures of whatever you do online. The spyware then passes the information on to the criminal. There are different programs that you can use to counteract the spyware and protect your computer and your information.

Although using a card online can be more convenient for everyone, it doesn’t come without faults and challenges. You must use caution when you are making credit card payments online. You shouldn’t access your bank accounts or make online payments from any unsecured network, for example. You also should be wary of making such payments while shopping in Internet cafes.

The siren call of starting a business on the Internet is hard to resist. Work when you want, do it from home, make lots of money (even when you’re asleep) – what’s not to like, right? You’d be a fool not to jump in and start building that website or writing a blog!

Not so fast. There are more Internet millionaire “wanna-bes” than you might think. And many have spent more than a few years and more than a few thousand dollars in a vain effort to start a profitable Internet business.

It may seem that “everybody” is making money online, but that’s simply not the case. And not many people will admit their frustration, partly because no one hates admitting failure but also because perception is everything online. If you are perceived as a failure, no one will buy from you, which makes you fail even faster.

So what are the disadvantages and roadblocks that potential Internet entrepreneurs encounter?

The first is the learning curve – it’s steeper than you might think, and there’s no single “how-to” process to follow.

Succeeding at an online business requires mastery of several key abilities, not all of which directly correlate to doing business offline. For example, you not only have to build a user-friendly and relevant website or blog, you have to drive traffic to it, all without making any mistakes that cause you to lose credibility in your prospect’s mind and cause them to click away from your site.

Not easy!

And though there are countless experts, books, and how-to courses on how to start a business online, it’s hard for a beginner to know who to believe, and there are multiple online business models to choose from as well.

The second issue, which was mentioned above but which warrants more attention, is the problem of driving traffic to your website. Novice Internet marketers know they want their site to be found in the search engines, but often vastly underestimate the amount of competition they have for the keywords and search phrases they desire.

The Internet reality is that top-ten rankings for most popular keywords is extraordinarily difficult to achieve – which means that the novice “Interpreneur” will need to master the art of advertising online, which can become quite costly.

The third and final obstacle mentioned here is that it’s very easy to become distracted when building an Internet business.

If you subscribe to Internet ezines or visit Internet discussion forums, which are recommended methods to build knowledge and connect with potential customers or partners, you’re bombarded almost daily with new ways to make money. New advertising strategies to try. New top-secret, never-before-revealed-to-the-public ways to get more targeted website visitors than you’ve ever imagined. And so on.

And while some of these strategies may be an excellent fit for a particular online business, many will not. Since inexperienced Internet marketers find it difficult to make that distinction, they waste time and money delving into new income models before mastering the income method they’re using now.

Hopefully, if you’re considering starting an Internet business, this article will serve as a “reality check” for you. It’s certainly possible to make a substantial secondary or primary income online – but it’s much more likely if you have a good grasp of the obstacles you’ll probably encounter along the way.

There has been a growing trend toward the reduction of operational computing costs in small and medium sized businesses for the last 15 years. Drops in hardware and software costs have fueled this reduction. Enterprise computing has come down to the smallest of enterprises. The low cost and easy access to high speed internet has accelerated thegrowth of iternet applications. Both of these trends have lowered costs.

Today the internet is relied on for every type of business transaction that you can think of through to credit processing between businesses and banking institutions. Yes the internet is an infrastructure that hold the veritable panacea of applications for one low price per month. I can run Virtual Private Network (VPNs) over the internet. I can run my corporate web site on the internet or access my CRM (Customer Relations Management) application. Backup is possible over the net for my mission critical sensitive data to offsite vaults to protect my business. My email communications, fax communications, voice communications and video communications are all running over the public internet. Post and courier services no longer carry messages and data to remote locations when we can simply transfer gigabytes of data across the public internet.

The impact of the net has been profoundacross society. New types of communication such as social networking and internet messaging have emerged and are mainstream. Today’s internet savvy individual can call someone on Skype at no cost wherever they are in the world. This means a rapid reshaping of the public telephone landscape.

The challenge in running your business or mission critical applications is the fact that all internet connections are created equally. One can have the problem of old cabling and underground cable for the last mile to your operation. In this area all providers are not created equally or over the same time frame. It is wise to diversify your last mile connections to give your much more reliability and protection.

Time sensitive applications such as voice may suffer from your connectivity when net enabled. The quality of line required for specific applications may not be the same and you could be at risk of packet loss and dropped connections. Always delpoy mission critical applications with a backup point of entry and exit to the public networks and other connections. Sometimes a point to point connection can provide the best choice over comlete internet connectivity.

Not every internet connection is created equally, even from the same provider. Cost savings in one area, may need to be re-invested in to new areas to allow the organization to do more with less but with multiple options for our security and access.

There are thousands of households with broadband connections these days from the single college graduate to the seventy five year old retiree. Most of us know why we need a fast connection to the Internet, but some of us don?t.

Triple Services Packages, sold by Cable, DSL, and Fiber Optic providers, bundle television, phone and Internet services for unbelievably low monthly subscriptions. The draw of super fast internet connectivity for only $10 per month lures you in, but the reality of the fine print sets in a few months later. Consumers need to educate themselves and read the agreements they are entering into!

So after your $9.99 service goes up to $29.99 six months later, and then you add the taxes, surcharges, and other fees, you begin to realize that ?being connected? isn?t that affordable anymore.

So, why not just jump ship and cancel your service? Easier said than done. Providers often hide the ball, and when you attempt to cancel service, they inform you of the two year contract you entered into for those promotional rates. So, not only are you tied in, but you if want to break the contract, there is a penalty, and more of your money in their bank accounts.

With so many daily activities, many of us don’t even use our broadband connection on a daily, weekly, or sometimes monthly basis, giving these companies even more of a profit gain. At the end of the day you need to watch after your own pocket book and it is our responsibility to be the watchdogs over these high speed broadband providers. We need to find ways of providing affordable high speed for the entire US and start competing with the rest of the world that offer 5 times the speed at a tenth of the price.
