Debt collectors ringing your phone off the hook and sending intimidating letters can frazzle anyone’s nerves. But you have various forms of protection and many techniques available to deal with them.

Regulations have been established by the Fair Debt Collections Practices Act that stipulate how far debt collectors are permitted to go in their efforts to collect on debts. For example, there are only permitted to call between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m., and they are not allowed to make idle threats of action that cannot legally be taken. If you instruct them not to call you they cannot continue calling.

As a consequence, you have several options. You can simply refuse to take the call. Most answering machines allow screening your call before picking up and if you have caller ID/call blocking you may be able to filter the call out entirely.

If you choose to pick up, you can insist that you not be contacted any more, and the agency is legally obligated to stop calling – if you’ve sent a ‘cease and desist’ letter. Of course, legal action of that kind can be expensive, so you may want to employ other techniques first.

First, you should consider actually paying the debt, if you can and if you actually owe it. You took on the load, and the creditor is entitled to be paid. But, if you’re seriously short of funds, you can couple this with negotiating for a reduced rate.

If you make a payment arrangement, stick to it. Debt collectors only have a desire to perform the service for which they have been employed. If you show that you are going to stick with your payment arrangement they will stop calling you.

It is important to keep good record of all calls received and agreements made. If you have instructed a debt collector to stop calling you, make note of that, especially if they are calling your place of employment. If it is legal where you live you could record calls. However research this because you may be required to inform the caller that the conversation is being recorded.

If you inform the debt collector that you are recording the conversation, most will be very careful not to overstep their bounds. If you are trying to negotiate a debt reduction these recordings can be very helpful.

Remember that debt collectors receive their payment based on a percentage of whatever they are able to collect. Therefore, though they may be authorized to accept less than they are demanding, they want you to pay as close to the full amount as possible. If you are persistent they will reduce the amount. They realize that a part of the whole is better than nothing at all.

If I had one dollar for every time someone asked me, “What is the best fat burning exercise”, I’d be a rich man today. I always respond the same way to this question. “There is no one best fat burning exercise. In order to have sustainable fat loss results, you must have several effective exercises to choose from.” This is a slightly more complicated (yet more honest) answer than they were expecting. I then have to explain that if you only performed one exercise to burn fat, in addition to being mentally bored, your body would quickly adapt and become stale after a few short weeks.

To get you started right away, I will share with you one of the best fat burning exercises. In addition to this exercise being incredibly effective, it can be performed anywhere without the need for any equipment. It is also very time efficient. Just five minutes of this exercise can burn more fat than a 30 minute jogging workout!

The exercise that I’m going to teach you is called the Advanced Burpee. Since the effectiveness of this movement is greatly determined by technique, I will describe to you in detail how to perform an Advanced Burpee properly. Below, I will explain how to do the movement, step by step.

1) Stand by standing with a shoulder width stance. Squat down and put your hands flat on the ground in front of your feet.

2) Next, jump back with your feet while lowering your chest to the ground. This step will put you in the bottom position of a push up.

3) Then, push your chest away from the floor while simultaneously thrusting your legs back up into the squat position with the hands still on the floor.

4) Finish the exercise by jumping up in the air as high as you can. Upon landing, drop back down into the squat position and continue for the desired number of reps.

You’re probably wondering, “How many should I perform? When should I do Advanced Burpees?” The truth is there are many ways to integrate this exercise into your routine. Explaining all of the options is beyond the scope of this article. Instead, I will provide you with one option that is simple yet effective.

Here is your routine: Perform as many Advanced Burpees as you possibly can during the five minute time period. Only high quality reps count. Pace yourself. Be sure to record the number of reps performed. Then the next time you repeat this workout, try to get more reps then you completed previously.

Continue this process until you max out on your progress. Once no further improvement is possible, it’s time to change up your workout.
