No matter what business you are in, there will come a time when you will have to market something over the phone (even if it’s marketing/selling yourself).

Using the phone, for sales and marketing purposes, has long been a daunting experience for many people. But the phone is a very powerful tool for your business and, used right, it can be a highly cost-effective and productive way of getting business, and increasing your income!

* Key 1: Learn to get comfortable using the phone by simply making calls:

There are many ideas that pamper to people’s anxieties over using the phone, but in my experience the best way to overcome any nerves or apprehension is simply this: get on the phone and start speaking to people!

The sooner you start chatting to people, the sooner you will realize that the phone is not the monster you thought it would be.

Just start making calls. What’s the worst that can happen? Someone says ‘no’ to what you are offering them. Yep, hearing ‘no thanks’ is the worse that can happen!

With each call you make, you will find your nerves ebb away, and you will get stronger and more confident on the phone. Try it and you’ll see what I mean. The more you use the phone, the more confident you will get.

Maybe not the most profound solution but certainly one of the quickest to get you positive results, both by overcoming your nerves and for getting results that increase your business.

* Key 2: Always open your calls with a Time Qualifier:

There is nothing worse than when you are in the middle of something, your phone rings, you answer, and someone starts hosing you down with what they’re trying to market to you. Your attention is weak, your patience thin, and often your sense of humour for being interrupted has long left the room!

You certainly don’t want the same result when you call someone. So, the easiest way to avoid this is to qualify the time you’re calling by using a simple opening phrase along the lines of:

‘Hi John, ______ here. Have you got 10 minutes now?’ or ‘Hi John, ______ here. Is this a good time to run something past you for 10 minutes?’

By doing this, you extend respect that they might be in the middle of something and in doing, allow them to tell you its not really a good time. You also have prepped them with the fact that you only need 10 minutes of their time. And, if they say ‘it’s a bit difficult right now’, you haven’t wasted your time talking to someone whose attention is elsewhere.

* Key 3: Build in a Disclaimer:

When someone says ‘I’ve got something that is JUST RIGHT for you’, how do you personally feel? I bet you immediately think to yourself how do they know its right for me; I’ll be the judge of that; it probably isn’t right for me, and so on. Well that’s how the people you speak to on the phone will react when you try to market to them in a presumed way. So disarm them straight away with a simple change of phrase:

‘John, I’m not sure if what I want to share with you is for you or not, only you can decide but I did think that if it wasn’t for you, then you then may know someone who would be interested?’. By suggesting it may or may not be for them offers them what is known as a ‘disclaimer’. In doing this several positive things has happened: A) Firstly, by saying I’m not sure it’s for you has put the person you are talking to at ease because they then don’t think they’re on the spot to ‘buy’ whatever you are marketing or selling.

B) Secondly, it gets the person you’re talking to thinking quietly to them self ‘why isn’t it for me? It might be; I’ll be the judge to decide if its for me’. In other words it turns their mental posture from ‘I don’t want it’ to ‘I might want it’.

C) By saying ‘you might know someone who would be interested’ you are in effect using the ‘3rd party approach’ (we’ll talk more about this in future issues of Marketing Pro Info). If the person you’re talking to then really isn’t interested, he can see a way out for himself by simply saying ‘it’s not for me but Bob might be interested’.

D) You potentially could pick up two customers – the person you called and a referral.

There are many credit repair agencies out there that are designed to help you with your credit. They are non-profit organizations setup to give you credit counseling and advice to help you pay off your debts. Some of these businesses will work with you to consolidate your debts so you can make one easy payment on your credit. For many people this is the right solution for them. It provides a manageable way to get your credit scores at an acceptable level.

If you want to repair your credit on your own you can. It is very easy to do, especially if you do not owe a lot of money. You will need to obtain your three credit reports. Be sure all of your contact information on the reports is current. Verify if there are no debts listed on your reports that you do not owe on. If there are any debts listed that you do not owe then you will need to dispute them. All of your debts will be listed on your credit report along with the contact information too. One at a time you can call your debtors and begin to pay off the balances you owe.

If you have a lot of debt that you owe you can still repair your credit yourself. You should pay off the smaller debts first that you can afford to pay in full, all at once. Some of the collection agencies will take a percentage of what you owe. Find out if anyone will accept a partial payoff for the balances. The larger debts you will need to work out a payment plan with these debtors. This is important. Remember that once you make a deal with these collectors you need to stick to paying off the debt as you promise.

You will also need to pay on the debts listed as collection items. Anything you owe on your credit reports that has gone into collections needs to be paid off. The phone numbers for each debtor will be listed on your credit report. You can call each debtor and pay them off one at a time. Keep in mind that most debtors will be willing to take a partial payoff. This means that you should ask them how much they will accept for a partial payoff. You may be able to pay 50% of each of the debts to have them listed as paid off on your credit report.

Repairing your credit is the best thing you can do if you are hoping for financial freedom or if your bad credit is negatively affecting you. By taking a few simple steps you can repair your credit.

Unravel Your Strings of Success

If you’ve ever been stuck on a problem in your online business and didn’t have a clue where to start, here’s a technique that may work for you. It’s called “unraveling the strings of success.” You’ll be able to visualize those strings as you see how it works.

1. Have you figured out the end result that you want? Maybe it is a giant subscription base, less support tickets, or a totally different website. For the sake of your business, how about saying expansive sales are your goal.

2. Using the expansive sales as the target you have set your sights on, ask the following question. “How will I accomplish getting more sales?” Your answer should be having a good system for following up with clients, getting noticed to attract more customers, and improved sales conversions.

3. Unravel one of the subjects you have just mentioned. For instance, if you want to increase prospective customer visits, what do you do to accomplish this? Better search engine words, more exposure for the website, and advertisements that will encourage the reader to click on your site.

4. Next take the subject and keep on unraveling it. “What do I need to do to add more links to my site?” A greater number of articles linking to the site, a greater number of blog posts, a greater number of directory links.

5. Now take one of those topics and keep repeating the process of unraveling it. “If I need more article links, what do I need?” Write more articles, hire others to write more, distribute them to a broader audience. Your answers can be broad or precise. The idea is to identify the factors that are stopping you.

A pattern is beginning to emerge. I can usually get a scrap of paper and go from one item to the next one – lengthening the string as it unravels. The point will come when your only conclusion will be that your call is for action. That is the starting point.

Unraveling is the easiest way there is to show you there may be a problem with your way of thinking or in the way you are handling the business end. Look at it this way, the longest strings are not getting the right amount of attention. The ones that are the shortest are the ones you can count on for results.

If something shows up in multiple strings, this could be an indication of a crossover in your system. It may be an unclear point for not only you, but your employees as well. It could be the way to finish one thing and lessen the length of a couple of strings.

When utilizing the unraveling method for your business, you are ready for the action phase at a much earlier date. In addition, you will have a map you can see of the process it takes to run your business.

If you have ever bought any technological gadget, then you know how quickly they can become obsolete. Technology moves at an increasingly rapid pace. A brand new computer built in 2007 is considered obsolete or slow by January of 2008. It is this rapid advancement in technology that keeps us on our toes and keeps us reaching for the next best gadget to buy. One of the most popular technological gadgets of our time has been the Compaq iPAQ Pocket PC.

Let’s take for example the Compaq iPAQ Pocket PC 3835 as a great example of technology that was superb for its time. It contains pc software similar to that found in desktop and laptop computers, but in versions of Pocket Outlook, Word and Excel. The 64 MB of RAM and 32 MB ROM was quite impressive to say the least and the 240 x 320 color screen beat out its competitor, the Palm, any day of the week.
