Hanging Displays: Most Popular Styles and Sizes

Any business that relies to some degree on trade show or event exhibition as part of its marketing strategy must pay close attention to their exhibit displays. When exhibiting, it is most important to make a good first impression and lasting impact on your potential customer or client. Many factors go into planning what your exhibit will look like, not the least of which is which type of display to use.

What is a Hanging Display?

A hanging display is a trade show display that hangs over the top of your exhibit booth. Since hanging displays must actually be hung from a ceiling or rafters, they work best in trade show scenarios that take place indoors rather than outdoors. The only way to use a hanging display outdoors is if you erect a tall pole to hang your display from. Because that can be quite costly (and also because you have to expose your display to elements such as wind and/or rain) outdoor hanging displays are not common.

Benefits

The main benefit of a hanging display is that your trade show booth can attract attention from anywhere on the exhibit floor. Since it hangs from high up above, it can be seen from anywhere within the trade show. Potential clients or customers can find you without having to actually pass right in front of your booth.

Styles

Most hanging displays consist of Vinyl or fabric graphics on frames. Several different shapes and sizes are available. The most popular styles are triangular frames, quad (square or rectangular) frames and circular frames. Below we’ll examine each of these styles and what sizes of each are the most popular.

Triangular Frames- This style of hanging display is probably the most popular because of how easy it is to put together. The display consists of lightweight aluminum poles that snap together to create the frame. The graphic banners are then attached to the bottom and top poles and are held taught by the weight of the bottom poles.

Sizes: Triangular frame hanging displays come in 6′ wide, 8′ wide, 10′ wide, 12′ wide, 15′ wide and 20′ wide sizes. The 12′ wide and 15′ wide sizes are most popular because they attract plenty of attention while still being cost-effective.

Quad Frames- This style of hanging display is very similar to a triangular frame hanging display in the way that it is assembled. Obviously, a quad frame will have a bit more assembly as it has one extra facing. The benefit of the extra facing, however, is that your graphics will get even more exposure.

Sizes: With quad frames, you can afford to go a little smaller and still attract plenty of attention because the quad frame style has one more facing of your graphics than the triangle frame style. For this reason, 6′ wide and 8′ wide sizes are most popular in this style.

Circular Frames- This style of hanging display is perhaps just a little bit less popular than the two mentioned above. The main reasons for this are that it is a slightly costlier option, a bit more difficult to assemble, and some people think it doesn’t look as sharp. The benefit is that your graphics can be seen from any point on the trade show floor.

Sizes: Because circular frames tend to be a bit pricier, the smaller sizes are more frequently used than the larger sizes. Of course, this is not always the case, but out of the available in 6′ wide, 8′ wide, 10′ wide, 12′ wide, 15′ wide, the 6′ and 8′ sizes are most popular.

Hand Gestures When Making a Speech – A Good Thing or Bad Thing?

Can you recall a time when you were standing in front of an audience, their full attention upon you and all you could feel was extremely exposed and self-conscious? All speakers feel this way at some time and the most overwhelming problem in this situation seems to be what to do with your hands. Nothing you do with them seems to feel natural or easy.

Standing in front of a room full of people, all of whom are eagerly anticipating the start of your speech, just serves to magnify the problem of what to do with your hands.

Is it acceptable to put your hands in your pockets? Or would it look odd just leaving them to hang limply by your sides? Or should you fling them wildly about in the belief that ‘grand gestures’ look natural from the audiences’ point of view?

And the more conscious you become of what to do with your hands, the more your focus will be diverted away from your speech and the more your nerves will begin to get the better of you.

Try making use of these tips and in no time at all you’ll have forgotten all about your hands and be able to get on with the real job of delivering a truly excellent and enjoyable speech.

Learn to relax. It is a basic truth that you only begin to worry about what to do with your hands when you are feeling stressed and up tight. In your normal, day-to-day life you don’t give a second thought as to what your hands are doing as you speak to you family, colleagues and friends, do you? And the reason is solely because you feel at ease and are not experiencing any nervousness at all.

Try and notice whether you regularly use hand gestures to help illustrate what you are saying to people at other times. See if you can describe to a friend how to knot a tie or try and convey the shape of a spiral staircase and see just how you use your hands to help enhance your words.

If you find that you are comfortable using hand gestures in general conversation, then continue to do so when delivering your speech. You’ll find that if you continue to do what comes naturally to you, it won’t feel artificial or forced.

As a general rule, if you don’t feel comfortable using gestures, then don’t try to start!

Always remember that if you feel nervous on stage, your emotion may be unconsciously demonstrated by what your hands are doing. Are you clutching the table or lectern tightly, clenching your fists or constantly fiddling with your pen?

Realize that gestures such as desk banging, finger pointing and fist clenching will always appear to have hostile or negative overtones and may even be insulting to people belonging to certain cultures. Be certain to avoid these at all costs!

Carefully limit your gestures during your speech or you will simply appear to be windmilling your way through your presentation.

If you find that focussing on what to do with your hands during your speech makes you feel uncomfortable, spend some time practising relaxation techniques and trying out different hand gestures in front of a mirror in the privacy of your own home. Being able to see what the audience sees will soon allow you to relax and enjoy delivering your speech.

Just as your words go towards making up your speech, so do your actions. Simply be aware that they just form another part of your communication with your audience and should be accepted as a natural part of your presentation.

Once you begin to see how the use of your hands can support and enhance your words, you will begin to find that you no longer think and worry about what you are doing with them. Instead you will discover that you are using your gestures naturally and in a relaxed manner.

When you can do this, you can congratulate yourself on graduating to the next level of expertise in public speaking!

What is FICO Score and How Will it Affect You?

Your FICO score is an extremely important determiner of your overall credit “worthiness”. What precisely is it?

The letters “FICO” form an acronym that originated from the founder, the Fair Isaac Corporation. Basically it is a ranking between the numbers of 400 and 800, decided upon by a mathematical algorithm, where 400 is the worst and 800 the best. There are other companies with their own versions of this system.

The algorithm’s “secrets” have been closely guarded, but many have used reversed mathematical procedures to create their own. All that you need to know is that any late payment will lower your score – more late payments and the later that you make them will cause the score to fall lower still. Another factor that influences the score is your total debt burden and to a lesser degree, the number of credit cards you use and the number of credit checks that are carried out.

A score around 620 is “marginal”; below 580 is “poor”, whilst 720 and above is “very good” to “excellent”. The “gray area” between 620 and 720 is where considerations other than your FICO will determine the success of a loan application.

All lenders, including banks, mortgage companies and credit card providers rely upon your FICO in determining whether to offer you credit and how high the interest rate will be. The higher your score, the lower the interest rate, generally speaking.

Sometimes other factors will be an influence. These include the current trend in interest rates, a higher than average demand for loans or other forms of credit and the state of the economy.

There have been two rather noticeable changes over the last 2 decades. One is that underwriting loans is completed differently due to the increasing use of computers and associated financial methods. The other is the influence of the internet which has changed the mode of working within finance.

In spite of these changes, the importance of the FICO as a tool has remained unchanged. It still is the determining tool for the initial, if not the final, decision of a lender to give credit, especially during times of high credit demand.

There are alternatives for those people who have had problems with their finances. Even with a low FICO, there are choices. Firstly, though, you must plan to make improvements to your credit score.

Your efforts to rid yourself of bad credit rating, either through diligent payments or negotiation, will be rewarded by an increase in your FICO score. Whilst this is happening, you may wish to check out the lenders who are willing to take a risk with you, but keep in mind that their interest rates are nearly always very much higher to coincide with the higher risk you pose. Perhaps, though, it is best to just forget about asking for credit rating or history until your situation improves.
