Starting a online business is in fact very easy. Anybody with basic computer skills can start a web business. In this article we will have a closer look at one of the options available and the steps you will take when starting a online business.

The main means to earn money on the internet is by selling something. You can either sell your own product if you have one, or someone else’s product for a commission.

If you are in the beginning stages of starting a online business. You most likely do not have a product of your own. So I am going to get you started by selling other peoples products.

For starters you are going to need a product to sell. ClickBank has 1000’s of products in a wide range of categories to choose from. And you can open an account at no cost. Once your account has been confirmed. Have a look at the “getting Started” section to understand how the service works.

Next step is to open an Google Adwords account. This account will be used to advertise the products you choose. As well do necessary Keyword research. But more on that later. There is a nominal setup fee. You really cannot do anything further without the account. So the cost involved is well worth it.

When your Adwords account is set up. Do a bit of reading to get the feel of how the system works. But here are the basics. The Adwords system is keyword driver. You bid for the keywords you want to use for your ad. In other words. Let say someone does a search for widgets. If you have placed your ad and used widgets as one of your keywords. The chances are pretty good that you ad will be seen. However the popularity of the keyword will determine the bid amount to get the ad on page one of Google.

The next step is to find a product. This you will do in the market place in your ClickBank account. For starters, stay in an area in which you have some knowledge and do a search for a product on that subject. Make a list of 5 to 10 products that pay a commission of $20.00 or more.

Now we are going to do some research to find out if the product can be profitable. For this purpose we will be using the Adwords keyword tool. Enter the exact full name of the product you have chosen in the tool and let google find keywords.

Now have a look at how many searches there are for that product. Remember that the results given by Google are monthly. You want a minimum of 3000 searches per month. Then you look at the competition. The higher the competition the higher the minimum bid amount is to get on page one. Also, have a look at the estimated required bid.

If someone is searching for say “How to Cook Beef” and this is the title of your product. It would safe to say that someone doing that search wants to know how to cook beef. Therefore, it would be reasonable to expect that for every 100 clicks on your ad at least one sale will be made. Working on a 100% profit margin. At a minimum bid of .10c you would break even with the one sale. All additional sales out the 100 clicks would be pure profit.

May not sound like you will be making real money. But think about it. If you run 20 to 30 ads on the same basis. You could be making $300 or more profit on each product per month. Not bad for starters.

Now to the next step. On the same basis as above. Select a few keywords that closely match your product and add them to your list. A point to remember. You do not have to have 1000’s of keywords to make the system to work. 5 or 6 well chosen keywords with low bids, is all you need.

So far so good. The last step is to write the advertisement you are going to publish. For the title of the ad, use the exact name of the product. For example, if the product is “How to Loose weight”. That would be your title. Then do a search for the title and have a look at the competition ads. Get some ideas, and write your own, but a little better.

A word of warning. Playing the Adwords game can be a very expensive exercise if you do not monitor your monthly spending against sales made. You also need to be able to monitor your ads and keywords, to find out which are working and which are wasting you money. If you do this. You could have a very pleasant experience when starting a internet business.

Yes, there is huge value to being able to 100% focus all your time and energy on your new business, especially when you’re working from home, and the rewards will mean that you business will grow exponentially by being full time over working your business part-time. There is one caveat to this; you need to use all your new ‘full time’ time commitment to really apply to your business – and I mean REALLY apply your energies in a focused way.

I have helped people who have gone from part-time to full time with their new businesses and this increased time input has resulted in them being less ‘effective and productive’ when they are full time than they did when they were part-time. “How is this possible?” I hear you say – it’s a common problem many self-employed people have when they suddenly make the commitment to run their business on 100% of their time; they suddenly fill their days with ‘stuff’ that is ineffective and unproductive to their business; ultimately their putting in the hours but not actually doing the things that will improve and increase their incomes.

Some people have said to me “I’m doing more hours but my business isn’t increasing”, and the key reason is that yes the hours maybe being put in, but how productively those hours are being used is the key.

There are only TWO reasons why someone doesn’t get the increase in business as they should…

1. They are doing the wrong things OR 2. They are simply not doing enough of the right things.

My information is intended to help you not make the mistakes to do the wrong things when you run a business working from home, so if when you go from part-time to full time you don’t get the growth in your business with all these extra hours being put in, it’s likely you are simply not doing enough of the right things with all your additional hours you’re now inputting.

It’s really easy to be ‘busy being busy’ but the real key is to identify what actions in your business really make you the money and try to do those particular actions as often as you can throughout your working day and week.

Get into the habit of questioning your actions by saying to yourself “is what I’m doing now really help me to grow my business AND income?” and answer the question to yourself with full honesty. It’s not enough to just ‘think’ what you’re doing is helping your business – is that action clearly and unquestionably improving your income? Because if it’s not, dump it and get on with something that is!

It’s all too easy to get into the pattern of being busy without being effective. The key is to stay focused on all the things that improve your income, and dump or put on the back-burner all the things that distract you from doing the things that increase your income.
