Classic Adult Costumes

by Perry Jenkins

How accurate was the movie Elizabeth?
A question I dread answering — not very. The portrayal of costumes, customs and the interiors of buildings was absurd. I spied a lady in waiting with a chin length bob, acrylic fingernails on Cate Blanchett, men with razored off “rapper” haircuts. Dress styles spanned decades. The notion that Elizabeth I would have had sex with Robert Dudley in full view of a harem of giggling ladies in waiting is asinine.

What is The Movies all about?
The game is very simple. An original idea by Peter Molyneux – you get to run your own Hollywood movie studio. The game can really be divided into 3 main areas – designing your movie studio, forging the careers of movie stars, and making movies. It is possible to focus on any of those areas that most appeal to you, and spend less time on the others.

What is “Shadowcasting”?
For Shadowcasting, a movie is projected onto a screen while live performers act out the movie in front of the screen for the audience. All-Con 2008 offers features the local Rocky Horror troupe LosBastardos on Friday night with a cast of their own professionals. A convention without costumes is as odd as a peacock without feathers. Costumers bring their finest works to conventions to show them off and engage in friendly competition. All-Con will hold our Costume Competition Saturday evening. Some (very few) cast members are blessed with the ability to sew, or know people (friends, relatives, Mom) who are similarly blessed.

Was there a Garbage Pail Kids movie, where can I get it, and what home video formats did it come in?
There was a live-action Garbage Pail Kids movie released back in 1987. The Garbage Pail Kids characters were actors dressed up in costumes that distantly resemble the artwork on the Garbage Pail Kids cards. When I saw the movie, I thought it was horrible, and I do not recommend it. Still, there are plenty of collectors that want to see the movie, and it is somewhat of a cult classic. If your local video store does not carry the movie, you can try searching eBay for it.

So what was real?
Pretty much everything else. The set designs, costumes and the ship itself were painstakingly re-created from numerous written and photographic sources. Captain Smith, Thomas Andrews, Molly Brown, Bruce Ismay, Col. Gracie and others were all real people. The sequence of events from sailing day to rescue is quite accurate. A few scenes are controversial. First Officer Murdoch’s suicide by pistol never been confirmed. However there are few flaws in this vision of the Titanic sinking.Pretty much everything else.

My US Citizenship Is On The “Green Cards”!

by Dane Masters

It has always been the dream of people worldwide to live and work in the United States of America. If there ever was a promised land, a land of opportunity, it has been the US. Many people have migrated to the US over the years to seek and gain US citizenship. And till date, the green card happens to be the most desired stamp of approval in the world.

It was a certain group of pilgrims who were determined to discover a better way of life, who landed on these shores by accident. They crossed the Atlantic in the Mayflower. This land where they settled down, became the USA. And these pilgrims were established as the first citizens of this newly-discovered land. These facts are very much visible in history books. Since then, varied cultures and varied sects of people have flocked to the place and settled here.

US citizenship has always held great promise of people fleeing their home countries due to prosecution or strife. Which is why, you will find that scores of Jewish people, people from war-torn areas, people from Africa and even the Middle East have all come to the US and gained US citizenship. Additionally, there are always the Chinese, the Indians and the other skilled migrants who have a long history of association with the US and scores of migrants from these populous countries actively seek out US citizenship in order to re-unite with their family or even to create a better life for themselves and their loved ones.

Now, New York is the heart of the US. The country’s economic growth is decided by this bustling metropolis. And it is here that one finds that out of every four persons with US citizenship, three constitute people from foreign shores! And the story does not end there; there are still a few thousand more who get to New York every day in the hope that they can become US citizens sooner or later! Even more startling is the fact that the US Government conducts a pool annually, where participants are granted automatic US citizenship via Green Cards should they win. And the numbers are staggering! 50,000 cards each year! This author had the luck to meet up with a Lebanese taxi driver who gained citizenship in this manner. But there is a catch here–all countries cannot participate. The US just wants to prove that it allows a diverse culture to settle down on its shores, and so conducts this pool. The USAIS ensures that there are an equal number of migrants from unrepresented countries who are given an opportunity to stay and work here!

The US boasts of being the largest and most developed economy in the world. There are plenty of opportunities for those who are serious about improving their standard of living by working hard. Other benefits offered by the US Government is dual citizenship and prestige. A foreigner settled there is a citizen of America as well as a citizen of the country of his birth. He/She can therefore enjoy the best of both worlds–old ties and new ties! Finally, tell anyone that you are a US citizen and watch the expression of awe on his/her face! It is definitely a matter of honor to claim citizenship of this country!

Casters & Swivels: Office Chairs

by Fabian Toulouse

From hard wooden chairs to the four-legged variety without arms, the chairs used in business were not improved on until about 1860. This was when businessmen spent a large amount of time trying to figure out how they could improve these chairs. Their main objective was to improve the efficiency of their office staff. The revolutionary idea of putting casters on the bottom of these chairs allowing the staff to roll around the office without every having to get up was the next idea. What better way to keep them busy than to keep them in their chairs?

Further studies involved keeping them in their seats by making the chairs a tad more bearable. Sitting in these chairs for hours could take it’s toll and the productivity would begin to suffer. As the chair began to improve, the shape began to be more in tune with the human body. These improvements were realized in the 1970s when ergonomics cam to the cultural forefront. The chairs of today are a result of the early attempts to keep the office workers in their chairs so there would be no decline in the work they performed.

The impact of ergonomics throughout the last century, culminating in the body-friendly designs of the mid to late 1970s, has produced a modern office chair that is phenomenally adjustable. Most modern office chairs can be adjusted to fit any employee, ensuring hours and hours of blissful productivity. Unfortunately, these accommodations have not done away with work and repetition-related strains to the shoulders, neck, back, and wrists. Ergonomic specialists recommend standing and stretching once every half hour.

However unfeasible, many people believe business owners would love to keep employees in their chairs eight hours a day. In today’s society this would be considered above and beyond the call of duty, perhaps even criminal. The chair has come a long way in the last 150 years. The chair is a status symbol. The better chairs with all the latest in comfort and flexibility are the ones the bosses get. They have the high comfortable backs and the arms that are padded and plumped. The chairs with all the comforts of their recliner at home are the ones reserved for managers and vice-presidents who, indeed, spend a great deal of time in the seated position.

Somehow this just does not seem right. It would stand to reason that the people that spend the most time in the office chairs working should have the most comfortable ones. The emphasis is on working as there are many people who could spend hours a day in these chairs. The only question is are they really as busy as they look. Working 8 and 10 hours a day from these chairs whether it is answering phones, data processing, bookkeeping or whatever job they perform, the comfort level of these workers should be taken into consideration first. The best office chairs should go to those who need them the most.

Factors to Consider Before Getting a Credit Card

by Landon McGehee

There are many things you should keep in mind when thinking about the different types of credit cards that are available to you. You should think about how you will use the credit card and why you need the card. You also should consider what the annual percentage rate (APR) and fees are, and if you plan to pay your debt each month or if you plan to keep a balance.

If you plan to pay your bill in full each month, you won’t have to worry about many fees or the APR. If you need to carry a balance, on the other hand, you will have to figure out where you will come up with the extra money to pay finance fees and accumulated interest from the APR. It’s also important to ask yourself if you plan to use the cash advance option on your card, and if you can repay that money plus any fees that are associated with it. You must ask yourself these questions because credit cards are a significant responsibility and should not be taken lightly.

You need to ask your creditor what the terms are of your credit card and what the APR is. Many cards factor in an APR when you have late fees, purchases, cash advances, and balance transfers. This is only a brief checklist about the terms and questions you should keep in mind when working with your potential creditor. There may be other questions and issues that you’ll want to consider when using a credit card.

Interest

Interest is a very important term to understand. The rates can change dramatically based on your credit score and how you pay your bills. Some creditors have tier rates, fixed rates, and variable rates. The fixed rates may be a better option for you.

Grace Periods

You must understand what a grace period means. The grace period is the amount of time that you have to pay your balance without accruing charges. If you go over your cycle, your creditor may charge you finance fees, additional interest rates, and penalties. You should ask your potential creditor if the balance carryover has penalties and what those charges will be. Also ask if you will receive any benefits for paying your balance in full each cycle. You also should ask if there are penalties on cash advances.

Finance Fees

Learn all you can about the finance fees on the credit card that you would like to have. Credit cards often include fees for advances, fees for late payments, and fees for other miscellaneous charges. You should ask several questions about finance fees. These questions should include about whether the lender estimates fees by a one or two cycle, if the fees are adjusted, or if the fees are standard. You also should ask if the there is a minimum finance charge per item and what that charge is.

Charges

Ask if the card has additional fees besides the finance charges. Those fees may include late charges, credit limit override fees, late charges, and setup fees.

Cash

Ask your creditor about the amount you can borrow and what fees you will have to pay for using a cash advance.

Type of Credit Cards

You need to know what types of credit cards are available. You should ask if they are standard cards, or if they are secured cards, Premium cards, or ordinary unsecured cards.

Credit Limits

All credit cards have some type of credit limits. There are no exceptions; the credit limit is usually determined on an individual basis. If you have excellent credit, for example, you usually will receive a large line of credit. You should always know what your credit limit is and make sure that you are not going over your credit limit.

Perks

Many credit cards offer cardholders various perks or benefits. These may include cash rewards, airline miles, gift certificates for online retailers, and other rewards like 0% apr for good credit ratings. This gives cardholders the ability to get some of their money back from using the card. Make sure that you know the details of your awards program. The details will change from creditor to creditor.

Insurance

Check to see if there is fraud insurance for your cards. This insurance will cover your costs if there are charges on your card that you didn’t make. Ask your potential creditor how much protection you have and how much you will have to pay if your cards are lost or stolen.

3 Steps to More Some and Improved Interviews

by Ada Denis

All of us involved with helping you get a new job, whether as third party recruiters or as spokespeople of a company, are evaluating you for work are all finding hundreds of emailed curriculum vitae a day. Having done master explore work for more than thirty years,The variety in delivery means that how you think of your resume being experienced needs to change too.

1.A Few individuals are really looking at resumes in the traditional sense of pieces of paper. They are looking at at screen shots of around 1/4 -1/3 of a page per shot and trying to make decisions dependent upon a few brilliant Page-Downs (or PgDn on your keyboard). For this cause you need to think of your resume in a different way than you may have before. Critically test your resume each time you scroll down. Where does your eye fall? Does it express significant information about your experience for that careful set?

2.Generic resumes are less effective than aimed ones. Only use a generic resume if you are posting out a masses email or mass mail. Where you have a task description to work from, revision your resume to include information about your experience relevant to the particular job. Don’t take on that someone will read your resume in particular, think about nuances and call you to enquire whether you have the relevant experience. Few people have the time to email or call you to find out whether their version of your experience is straight. Make it plain and set it in your resume!

3.For years, if people were going to effort to advanced a resume to an employer at once, They are boosted to write a three paragraph top letter. The first paragraph would explicate why they were composing (I’m sending on my resume in reply to your ad in . . . for a Java Developer); the second would let in different relevant points about their experience that pertain to the job (I trust my 5 years of go through with Java including 2 years of J2EE experience, coupled with my experience with your industry would provide me to be a productive performer within your organization). The third paragraph would expand a hope that they touch you for an interview or might show that you’ll be calling with an centre to meeting with them (I look advanced to hearing from you about linking your firm . . . I’ll be calling you in the few days about our meeting to discuss my experience and the chance you have).

Or Else attaching a cover letter, use the message to which you are tying your resume as a place to write a commercialised that refers to the position.

We encourage people to copy and paste place descriptions into the message area of the email and go point by point and discover their applicable see so that it is evident. Sure takes the guesswork out of whether some is modified, doesn’t it? 🙂

And that is really what you need to do–take the guesswork out of passing whether you are specified for a position. It’s one thing to not get an interview because you’re not qualified or because you are asking for too much money; it’s new to exit to get an interview because your resume doesn’t transmit that you have the experience that’s being wished-for.

How to Open a Bakery of Your Own

by Pamella Neely

Starting a bakery may prove to be highly satisfying, but it is certainly no cakewalk. You need to have the basic know-how and expertise to run a thriving bakery business. Besides, a lot depends on the scale of operations. You can operate on a large scale, medium scale or just stick to being a small homespun unit. But you need to understand the nuances of starting and running a bakery because the dynamics differ from other businesses.

The first decision you need to make is whether you want to take up a franchise, purchase an existing bakery, buy a new one or start one out of your home. If you’re purchasing an existing bakery, find out why it’s being sold and check the equipment. But whatever you plan to do, it’s better to seek professional advice before taking the plunge. Ascertain the initial investment that’ll be required and the kind of profits you can expect.

Take the time to write out a detailed business plan. Analyze the current market for a new bakery, and determine who your best customers to be. Take the steps necessary to secure adequate funding. Hire a lawyer and an accountant to make sure you don’t make any mistakes early on.

Your next priority should be to pick a location. You need to balance high foot traffic against an expensive rent. Also consider how large your client base will need to be. You’ll need about 1000-2000 families to make a go of it. If there are already several successful bakeries in your area you may need to specialize, or get ready to handle the competition.

Before commencing your operations, you’ll have to complete formalities like getting a license and permit, opening a bank account, purchasing equipment and recruiting employees. Obviously the main ingredient is flour, so identify suppliers who’ll offer you lower rates. Economize and eliminate wasteful expenditure as far as possible. The success of a bakery depends on how much you can save on expenses.

Start advertising much before the grand opening. Hand out leaflets and brochures and get your business cards printed. You could also put up a banner about the impending opening of your bakery. Have a small party before the main inauguration to promote your bakery and spark interest in potential customers.

Starting a home bakery is relatively less complicated. The equipment you need is less sophisticated and you can cater to a number of retailers. Though you need a license to operate, with the co-operation of purchasers you can wait until you recover a few of your costs to get one.

As far as pricing is concerned, price your products reasonably to cover costs and provide for a decent mark-up. Avoid pricing them too high as this will drive you out of the market. Pricing them too low, on the other hand, is also a mistake. After all, you do want to make some money out of your bakery.

Operating a bakery requires a great deal of work, thrift and planning. But it can also be very gratifying when you see your dreams turned into reality. With the right dose of effort and skill you can have your cake and eat it too.

Why Would a Business Want to Use a Temp Agency

by Amy Nutt

Companies may wonder why they should hire an hr consulting firm, i.e., a temp agency, to locate quality employees.

In a highly competitive corporate world, knowledgeable help can mean the difference between a constant influx of clients and bankruptcy. Statistically speaking, every disgruntled customer that leaves your establishment equals seven or more people who won’t give you a chance based on word of mouth.

That is why it is very important to locate individuals who are not only skilled technically but have a great work ethic and understand the value of supplying quality service.

When a company endeavors to locate these people themselves as opposed to hiring a human resource consulting firm, they have a hard time finding quality workers. The reason for this is multifaceted, but can often be attributed to.

– Lack of time – when a company looks for “grade A” assistance, it is often because they needed them yesterday. This can make them hire on someone who may have certain skills but could be lacking in other valuable traits, like interpersonal skills.

– Inexperience – although you may realize what you want, you may not have the ability to acquire it. People will say just about anything to obtain a job, and resumes are often padded to make them sound better than they really are. To truly screen applicants, you would need to do an in depth assessment that you may not have time for, especially if you are in a fast paced work environment.

– Hiring family members or acquaintance – It can be very tempting when we are in a pinch to hire on people you know. The problem with this is that our affection or relationship with the individual makes it impossible to be objective as to their suitability for the job. This can also lead to a ticklish situation if you need to fire them for their ineptitude.

What a reputable temp agency can offer

On the opposite end of this spectrum, an experienced temp agency knows how to expand the job pool. They usually have a team of specialized recruiters who weed out potential employees by a highly stylize criteria. By having a larger pool of candidates and a selective process, you are more assured to find a qualified match for your job.

Temp agencies can also provide:

– Greater productivity – because you are not taking time out of your valuable day to interview all potential hires, you can get more work done. This increased productivity will greatly aid your business growth.

– Employees who are tried and tested – when businesses try to hire employees they have no real way of seeing how well the applicant truly performs in a work environment. Recruiting agencies do, with tailored skill assessments, like WMP or ten key punch tests for data entry that can reveal a workers strengths and weaknesses. They also offer training facilities for applicants to improve their abilities and learn new skills that will help them in the job market.

– Employee resource – No matter how organized an office is, if someone leaves or get sick, it can disrupt the office routine. Temp agencies can replace sick individuals, those on maternity leave or who don’t work out. You can also hire on temps for seasonal work, as many organizations see increased workloads around Holidays or summer months depending on the nature of their business.

It can end up costing you more in the end to not go with an established recruiting agency. If you start weighing the pros and cons of looking into human resource consulting, remind yourself that the time you spend working as opposed to worrying over the exhaustive hiring process is more time spent building your business up. When one considers the above facts, then the benefits of hiring workers through a temp agency is worth its weight in gold.
