Dell: Inspiron Perfection

Dell first came onto the computer scene, offering an innovative twist on the usual method of selling PCs. Instead of selling only out of the box PCs, like most manufacturers, Dell built its computers to order. One of the most popular was a desktop PC, the Dell Dimension. Unlike some previous models, it was specifically targeted to the home PC market. In the middle of 1997, the Dimension was replaced by the Dell Inspiron series. Its incarnations so far include the Dell Inspiron 530, 530s, 531 and 531s. The s after the name denotes that this computer model is a “slim” style, and has a small footprint ideal for computer setups in a relatively limited amount of space.

You can build these affordably priced computers to your preferences and needs, from operating system to processor. Dell plans to include Windows XP as an option on its computers until 2010, along with the current Vista OS. Also customizable are the motherboard, graphics card, hard drive, and installed software options from Microsoft Office to Quicken. These mid-range price and performance computers are build mostly for home users, rather than the higher priced models meant for business users. While those who need the performance, higher end options are available, the Dell Inspiron offers just about everything needed by the average home user and is reasonably priced enough to be easy on the budget.

Slim design Dell Inspiron models aren’t always able to incorporate all the features of full sized models. Graphics cards in these computers, for instance, are half the size of those used in a full sized model. However, these slim computers are able to incorporate most of the basic PC functions at full capacity, just like their large cousins. Since you’ll go through a detailed questionnaire as part of your computer buying experience, it’s easy to see which functions can and can’t be included with a given model. If you’re going to lose an important function with the slim design, you’ll quickly be able to see that and choose the full sized model instead.

Dell Inspiron desktops are known for being remarkably problem free. Some notebooks produced by Dell have had a tendency to overheat or shutdown suddenly. This is because of a design flaw that made solder between motherboard and chip break easily. Previous computers, including ones made by Dell, had loud and bothersome hard drive and fan noise. These affordable, quiet computers can’t be beat for their price. With plug-and-play features, setup is extremely easy, allowing even users who aren’t familiar with computers to get things up and running in no time at all.

Ink Cartridges – Should You Buy Refills?

Printer ink refills can save you a lot of money compared to buying new cartridges every time you run out of ink. They can cost as little as 10% of the price of an original ink cartridge.

There are a few things you need to be aware of, though, if you’re going to use refill kits.

Printers are quite specific as to the type of ink that must be used for the printer to function property. Refills that say they can be used for all types of printers may not be trustworthy.

You need to be sure to get a refill that is specifically compatible with your brand and model of printer, to get the best results.

Another thing to consider is how many refills you get from a kit. Many refill kits include enough ink to refill a cartridge 3 or 4 times.

A well-matched ink is not the only thing that has to be considered. Cartridges do not function well forever. If you continue to refill them after a while they will begin to perform poorly. After a few refills the cartridges need to be replaced.

Most refill kits come with enough ink for filling a cartridge more than one time. So when you have to replace your cartridge you can hold on to your remaining refill ink and when your new cartridge runs out you will be ready to refill it. You may also be able to save by buying refurbished cartridges.

Ink also does not last forever. When purchasing your refill kit you need to keep in mind how quickly you will be able to use it. If you will not be able to use all the ink before it goes bad you may want to rethink the purchase.

The refill process is not an easy one unless you have special tools. There are places that specialize in refilling cartridges and have the needed tools to make the process easy. If you are going to do it yourself remember it can be messy so you can’t rush or be careless.

When you’re doing it yourself, ink can leak or spill and it can make a real mess if you’re not careful. Be sure to read through the refill kit instructions thoroughly before attempting the refill – probably a couple of times.

Check the website of the company you bought the kit from and see if they have any special tips or even a video showing how the process works.

Give yourself plenty of time on your first attempt to refill a cartridge. It is a learning process and you don’t want to be in a hurry. If you have to get something out right away you don’t want to be worrying about refilling your cartridge. Set aside some time to learn to do it correctly.
