“You can charge thousands for things that others are charging hundreds for”, says Willie Crawford, a 35 year vetran in direct marketing and a 12 year online information marketer.

As part of Dan Kennedy’s Info Riches course, Rob Toth interviewed Wille Crawford as one of the top information marketers. The interview series is called the “Future Of Information Marketing”.

Willie’s advice is to “focus on selling a product that offers a solution to a really, really huge and painful problem…one that people would happily pay to solve”. Many people try to sell things that the market really doesn’t want. But in Willie’s experience “people know what they want”. Trying to sell something that they don’t want or don’t understand why they need it or should want it won’t get you very far. You will face an uphill battle. Success is not likely.

Do your research. You need to “find something that is so incredibly painful that people would do almost anything to buy the solution”. Once you know what they want so badly, sell them the best solution in the market.

You don’t have to have a perfect product or service. It’s good enough if it is noticeably better than they can get anywhere else.

Consider the baby boomers, for example. All these people are getting old. They have money and don’t like the idea of being in pain due to sickness. They are willing to do anything to avoid or eliminate their problem.

Also, among the baby boomers, lots of people are going to be in difficult circumstances because they are not invested in the right place. You can be their savior.

Many of these people have time on their hands and can afford to travel. You can offer them the best travel packages.

The big problem is actually psychological. People are “not properly valuing their expertise, so they are underpriced”.

You need good copywriting skills to demonstrate and prove that the value of your product is real. You just need to “take a deep breath and add another zero or two zeros.” “Keep a straight face and people will pay those prices because it’s not about the prices. It’s about delivering experiences. It’s about delivering value to people’s lives”.

Position yourself so you are at the high end of the price-quality spectrum. “Once you learn to position yourself as THE expert who has the information those people are looking for then it’s really not that difficult to sell to those people”, says Willie.

“People who are willing to pay more money are looking for a higher end product. They are looking for expertise that the average person can’t afford. Just let them know that’s you and they’ll buy it.

In part three of this four part series we will be discussing the next four principles of stock market investment. Previously, we discussed about the first three principles of investment. Number one principle is that the stock market is just another vehicle of investment. Secondly, you must realize that investing in the stock market is a like roller coaster ride. 4.) You must realize that investing in the stock market does not take a lot of money but if you really want to make an impact on your portfolio you have to place in a substantial amount. – You don’t need millions or hundreds of thousands of pesos to invest in the Philippine Stock market. You only need at least P 20,000.00 to somehow play it out. I started out with only this amount. In fact you can invest if you only have P 10,000.00 but for me that is too small an amount. For example Jollibee (JFC) shares cost only 51.50 per share as of today. The board lot (which is the minimum amount of stocks that you could invest in) is 100. 51.50 x 100 = P 5,150.00. This is the only amount you need to be a stock holder of Jollibee. Let’s say in 1 year time Jollibee stocks climbed to P 100.00 per share, you have gained P 5,000.00 more. But if you had invested 200 shares you could have gained more than just investing in 100 shares.

5.) Be consistent in your investment – Start small but do not stay small. You must have the discipline to consistently invest a certain amount of your income to the stock market. This way you can have more capital thereby growing your portfolio. Over the years, I have slowly added to my investment. I did not stay at P 20,000.00. The act of investing should become your habit, and I say it is a good habit to develop.

6.) You must learn to minimize your losses and maximize your profits – If your stock goes down, remember that the loss is only on paper. There is no actual loss until you sell your stock at the “losing” price. Hence the best way is to never ever sell at a loss. That is why it is important that the money that you invest in the stock market is considered as really “extra money” and not your emergency fund. If you invest your emergency fund or your savings you will be forced to withdraw sell your stock at a loss. Similarly if you sell your stocks and you profited from the sales, or you received dividends, utilize the profit or the dividend to buy more shares of stocks.

7.) The stock market is not a get rich quick scheme – In all investments always take note of the principle that money takes time to grow. Those Investments that give you very high rate of return in a very short period of time are most likely investments that make other people rich, not you. Most likely it will take several months or even years in order for you to really profit in the stock market, especially in the Philippine stock market. There are times that it will just take weeks or days to really make a killing. However these are rare occasions. This usually occurs in cases like when there is a consistent bull run or that there is an unusual drop or climb of prices in a short length of time for various reasons.

Begin investing

You should definitely invest in money market funds. This can often be done through your bank. These funds have higher interest payouts than typical savings accounts, but they work much the same way. These are short term investments, so your money won’t be tied up for a long period of time – but again, it is money making money.

You can select the duration of your investment, and interest is paid regularly until the CD reaches maturity. CD’s can be purchased at your bank, and your bank will insure them against loss. When the CD reaches maturity, you receive your original investment, plus the interest that the CD has earned.
