Your Mind And How It Works For And Against You Creating Wealth

by Christina Helwig

Your mind has two main areas: the Conscious and Subconscious Mind. Together these two areas control your actions, habits, thoughts and ultimately the results you have in your life. As we talk about each area of your mind, understand that while these concepts may seem simple and elementary, they have a far reaching and profound affect on your life. They help dictate every aspect of what makes you who you are and will continue to control everything in your life until the day you die or until you choose to change your mental programming.

The Conscious Mind is where you do all your day to day thinking. This is where you make decisions and where you primarily operate from in normal life. When you hold a conversation or watch a t.v. program you are using your conscious mind. Both the conscious mind and the subconscious mind think in pictures. If you think about your family members a picture of them will flash on the movie screen of your conscious mind.

You also can only hold one image on the screen of your mind at any one time. For example you cannot think of a car and a dog in detail at the same moment. While you might be able to project them side by side you are not able to see the dog and the car as separate images at the same time. Your mind has to flip back and forth.

This ultimately means that you cannot think of a negative idea and a positive idea at the same time. While your mind might be able to flip back and forth between negative and positive ideas or images very rapidly, it is not able to hold those two images at the same time.

Most people would think that the Conscious Mind controls the Subconscious Mind, but this is not so. The Subconscious Mind is the real power source in our lives. The Subconscious Mind stores all our concepts about who we are, what we are capable of, what we are not capable of and every other detail we believe to be true about our world. We can refer to the Subconscious Mind as the emotional mind.

The subconscious mind operates in the background of your mind while you sleep, when you drift out, when you do something you have done a million times and any other automatic motion or thought you think or do. Dreams are a product of your subconscious mind. You can think of the subconscious mind as a little robot running without your help or mental effort at all times. An example of this would be when you have suddenly realized that you have not been paying attention while driving and you are almost home from work or you missed an on ramp.

The entire drive to and from work is a program that you have put into your subconscious mind through repetition. Your driving is almost automatic and takes very little thinking on your part. In fact without consciously thinking about going to the store when driving that pathway you will drive straight home. Your programming will take over and you will “forget” to go to the store unless you hold the image of the store at the forefront of your mind when driving home.

To convert the things you want in your life to reality you must understand how to use both your conscious and sub-conscious mind. This includes increasing your income. By continually thinking about the good things you want and visualizing the image of your dreams you will impress them on your subconscious mind. Over time your actions will change and you will start to move the things you want into your reality. Including more wealth and a better lie for you and your family.

Job to Career – 8 Success Factors

by Ada Denis

According to the Longman Dictionary the word job is defined as the work that you do regularly to earn money, especially when you work for a company or public organization while career is the type of work that you do or hope to do for most of your life.

Basically a job is a mean to an end and it is a short term thing. For example, you take up a job during your school holiday to kill time or earn some pocket money. You may also provide tuition at the weekend to pay for your tertiary education.

Your career, even though it is also a mean to an end, it occupies a very large portion of your life. It is, in fact, more than one third of your daily life. It is very important that your career gives you meaning, growth, advancement, satisfaction, happiness and fulfillment and of course monetary rewards.

Here are a few tips to help you attend success in your career

1. Long term planning

It is not a one-off activity. As you go along you need to track your progress and make changes accordingly. For example your lifestyle changes when you were a bachelor before and now that you are the father of three.

2. Happiness at work

As you spend a big chunk of your time at work it is crucial to develop a happiness habit at work. No matter how difficult or challenging, take every assignment with a smile. Do not complain about your job and don’t think that the grass is always greener in another company.

3. Personal Development

Take initiative to acquire more skills needed to make yourself more indispensable at the place of work.

4. Be prepared mentally for the worse

The business world is unpredictable, be resilient to downsizing or retrenchment when the economy is gloomy. Use the time to learn new skills and offer to take up voluntary work while hunting for another job. The other thing that you can do is to take on extra projects. So that you are more valued at the workplace and you’ll be the last one to be considered for retrenchment.

5. Take the opportunity

When you are doing the same work day in day out, you should grab the opportunities that come along to enrich your career. You don’t want to be a deadwood in the same company.

6. Give to others

Be a coach and assist the junior staff to develop their career in the company. Offer services in the community. By doing this you are doing networking in the market place and who knows when you need help it is there for your asking. Always remember the more you give the more you will receive in return.

7. Develop people skills

As you climb up the corporate ladder learn to get things done through others. Treat the staff fairly. Appreciate the work that they do. Create an environment to boost morale and productivity.

8. Stress and time management

Learn the skills to cope with stress which is inevitable at the workplace. Able to organize your time well is a major factor to reduce your stress. Develop a habit of writing a daily to-do list. As the saying goes: Plan your work and work your plan. When you manage your time well you move from task to task smoothly without stress.

5 Telecommuting Job Interview Tips

by Ada Denis

When seeking a legitimate telecommuting job, finding good leads is only half the battle. Even more important is knowing how to present yourself well during the interview process and convince the employer that you are the best person for the job. There is usually a fair bit of competition for any good job opening, but this is especially true for telecommuting jobs! Work at home positions that pay well are in high demand, so don’t be surprised if you find yourself among many hundreds of applicants all vying for the same position!

The question you need to ask yourself is: How can I be sure I’m putting my best foot forward during the interview?

This article will share 5 easy tips for making your telecommuting job interview great

1. Be on Time

This should go without saying, but telephone and internet interviews should be taken as seriously as on-site interviews. Be sure to plan, prepare, and be there on time. If your interviewer is supposed to call you, be sitting by the phone (or computer if online) at least 15 minutes before your interview time. If you are supposed to contact your interviewer, try to call at exactly the time your interview was set for, or even just a couple minutes early – but no more than that. Calling too early will just annoy your interviewer because he or she may be trying to wrap up a few things before your interview.

Also, be prepared by having a copy of your resume and cover letter in front of you, so you can quickly reference it for answers you may be asked. You may also want to jot down some responses to common questions the interviewer may ask.

2. NO Background Noise!

If your interview will be done by phone, I cannot stress enough the importance of having a totally quiet background. That means no children yelling or talking or begging for your attention, no dogs barking, no television or stereo blaring. This will be even more important if you are applying for a job that requires telephone work. Make arrangements to be sure you can give the interview your full attention without any background interruptions.

In addition, be sure to use a landline telephone, not a cell phone. The interview won’t go well if you and your interviewer have to keep saying, “Pardon, can you repeat that?” Also be sure to TURN OFF CALL-WAITING if you have that on your phone. That would be another big annoyance if you keep getting clicks and beeps on the line while you’re trying to talk.

3. Slow and Steady

Sometimes nervousness can make you talk a lot faster than you normally would, which can make you seem scattered or flighty. Be sure to pause before answering questions and keep your rate of speech moderate. Breathing properly can help you feel calmer too, so while the interviewer is asking a question or recording your answers, take that opportunity to take a nice deep breath – quietly, you don’t want to breathe heavily into the phone! 😉

Also, keep your answers brief and to the point. Avoid rambling (another sign of anxiety!). Answer only the questions you are asked, unless the interviewer indicates he or she would like you to expand on a particular answer.

4. Honest but Positive Answers

Probably the most challenging thing about interviews is figuring out how to respond to questions honestly without casting yourself in a negative light. For example, if the interviewer asks why you left your last job, you definitely don’t want to launch into a tirade about what a jerk your old boss was and you “just couldn’t take his crap anymore”. Instead, you want to find a way to make all of your answers positive but still honest. This can take a little creativity sometimes!

Using the above example, you might answer: “I really enjoyed that job for the first 6 months but gradually I began to feel that the position didn’t allow me to use my strongest skills to their full potential.” That would be a general answer, but you could be more specific too: “I felt that the position wasn’t challenging enough in allowing me to build my problem-solving skills and improve customer relations.” That doesn’t negate the fact that your boss may have been a jerk – but you don’t have to focus on THAT aspect of the truth! 🙂

Overall you want to be truthful with your answers, but also find a way to put a positive spin on them. Whatever you do, avoid blaming, pointing fingers, or expressing bitterness about previous jobs, employers, managers, or co-workers. You want to portray yourself as being mature and professional, which you can’t do with a negative attitude!

5. Be Yourself

Finally, remember that your interviewer is trying to determine one thing: whether YOU are the right person to join their team. But he or she will not be able to tell that if you’re busy trying to be someone else! Interviews can be intimidating and you may think that you have to become this super-polished professional that “wows” the interviewer, but it’s really not necessary.

Negotiating Your Salary During Recessionary Times

by Trevor Davide Grant

While it is well known that the American economy is in the middle of a financial downturn, and that economic slowdown is having an effect in trading partners, recent studies have shown that with many employers there is still room for negotiating your salary.

It is critical to remember, and you must know your tactical approach to salary negotiating at this challenging time.

Don’t shy away from salary negotiation if it is the right time for you. While many companies are slowing down or reducing staff levels, other companies are in need of top talent. You should keep this in mind. There is still an opportunity to discuss salary with your employer, or to negotiate your salary offer with new employers.

When doing a salary negotiating, you are asserting your worth and standing up for the value you bring to the company. By representing yourself in an assertive way, you are projecting your value to the employer and letting them know that the market will bear your salary request. Make sure you’ve done your homework to support your salary expectations.

Be wise in your approach to salary negotiation at this time. You want the employers to respect you for your approach and tact when asking for an increase or a higher salary in a job offer. It is not the time to demand or use ultimatums when negotiating. We are still in a challenging financial era.

Salary negotiation in these times is still an option. Not only that, but if you find yourself in the unfortunate circumstance of being between jobs, salary negotiation skills and strategies are of critical importance to you.

Remember, don’t dismiss the notion of negotiating your salary just because the economy is on the edge of a recession. On the contrary, look for the most suitable approach, do some market research and build your supportive case.

Wishing you the ultimate success in your salary negotiation.

How to Do Well in Group Job Interviews

by Ada Denis

Employers will often use group job interviews, especially when they need to hire a lot of new employees at one time.

Generally, these will be in the form of many candidates being asked the same questions or being led in an exercise by the interviewers.

It is difficult to predict what questions may be asked in these settings. This makes preparation for these interviews somewhat problematic but there are a few steps you can take to be ready for group job interviews.

The company doing the hiring will have already brought in the candidates who they think are the most suitable for the position. Group interviews are a great way for employers to sift out the candidates who do not quite meet their criteria at one time. This saves the company a lot of time, compared to individual interviews.

The exercises or questions will have the goal of seeing how the candidates would react to various situations which may arise in the workplace. Quite often, the group will be separated into teams and assigned a problem to solve, with their solution to be presented to the group as a whole.

Group job interview candidates will also, in some cases, be asked to answer questions which are not work related such as the well known question of which 50 out of 100 people should be rescued from a ship which is sinking. These questions will spark a lot of discussion among the group, letting the interviewer assess the candidates’ negotiation skills and decision making.

Interviewers will observe how the process plays out among the group; asking questions, taking notes, even providing encouragement.

They are watching the group, but will be carefully watching the performance of individuals within it as well, so even when in a group setting, you should do your best to make a good impression on the interviewer.

Interviewers will notice

1. How you interact with others in the group 2. Your skill at influencing and persuading the rest of your team 3. How well you work in group settings 4. How strong your communication skills are 5. Whether your decisions are based on logic or on emotion 6. If you are a good listener 7. How well you handle stress

Interviewers will also be watching to see who emerges as a leader within the groups and how effectively they delegate tasks to the rest of the group. They will also be watching how group members react to the leader.

They will want to know if the leader

1. Includes all team members, even members who don’t speak up on their own 2. Takes changing conditions into account and makes changes accordingly 3. Listens to and asks questions of their team 4. Gives credit where credit is due

There is no way to be sure that you will be prepared for any possible question asked in group job interviews, but these tips can make sure that you are as ready as possible for what may come in this interview process.
