Laptops For Students

by Mary Bush

What factors are important to consider when purchasing a laptop for your resident student? As it is once again the season of giving many parents will be delving deep into their pockets to ensure that there teenager has all the equipment they need for studying. An up to date laptop is one of the more expensive items on teenagers Christmas wish list.

So where do you begin? If like me you use a computer for research and keeping in touch with friends and family, you will probably have a basic knowledge of some of the terms used (or at least of heard of them) within the computer manufacturing industry.

As the credit crunch takes its toll and purchasers are cutting down on their spending, laptop sales have become more competitive. So it is worth taking the time to find out what the terms used by the industry actually mean so you can make comparisons and a informed choice regarding your purchase.

I’m sure you are aware of the Internet; well in this competitive market many laptops include a wireless connection. This will probably be top on your youngster’s requirements for their laptop features. A wireless connection is abbreviated to Wi Fi which is the trademark name given to the technology used. Other connections that are usually provided on laptops are: – A VGA port for a external monitor, a printer port, a 56kbps modem, and at least one USB port. A USB port will be very important to your Son or Daughter; they are used to connect mouse/keyboard/, drives, MP3 players and digital cameras.

A student’s laptop should be light weight, robust and of a compact size that will easily fit into your teenagers backpack or under their arm. Laptops are generally constructed to be tougher than before and should be able to with stand the odd knock and still function.

When purchasing a laptop check out how much RAM is provided, make sure there is enough storage space (hard drive) and computing speed to carry out any tasks it may be required to carry out. This minefield sounds much worse than it is. Simply compare the numbers products provide, some stores display technical specification breakdowns with the price of the laptop. This makes it quite easy for non experts to compare what specifications you get for your money.

Although it is quite achievable to obtain a reasonable spec laptop on a low budget it is worth keeping in mind that you do get what you pay for. You could find parting with a larger amount of cash initially could actually long term as a quality, higher specification laptop can last a good few years. However if your child has a bad track record with phones and MP3 players (my Son has broken four mobiles and four MP3 players in the past two years!) it may be a safer bet for you to purchase a laptop as cheaply as possible. Once your student has proved that they can look after their laptop and not cost you a fortune in laptop repairs you could consider upgrading to a more advanced laptop.

Computer Training – CompTIA

by Scott Edwards

In the UK today, industry couldn’t function properly without the help of support workers fixing computers and advising users on a day to day basis. The need for more qualified personnel grows as we become ever more dependent on computers in the modern world.

Prior to embarking on a specific training programme, trainees are advised to discuss their career requirements with a skilled advisor, in order to be sure their course covers everything they’re going to need.

CompTIA A+ Computer Training covers four specialised areas – you need to pass exams in two of these areas to be considered A+ competent. Because of this, most colleges only offer two of the training options, but we think this is selling you short – sure, you can pass an exam, but experience of all four will give you a distinct advantage in industry, where you’ll need to know about all of them.

So look for a course that trains you in all of the areas. Then because you only need to pass two of the exams to get your A+, you take the compulsory Essentials exam, and select one of your choice from the other three.

Move Into IT With A+ Computer Training…

For those students embarking on IT studies and exams for the first time, it’s often a good idea to break yourself in gently, by working on a user skills course first. This can be built into an A+ package.

Once on the A+ Computer training course you will learn how to build, fix, repair and work in antistatic conditions. Fault finding and diagnostic techniques through hands on and remote access are also covered.

You may also want to consider adding the CompTIA Network+ training as it will enable you to look after networks of computers, which is where the bigger salaries are.

People attracted to this sort of work are usually very practical, and don’t always take well to classrooms, and poring through books and manuals. If this is putting you off studying, go for more modern interactive training, where you can learn everything on-screen.

Courses are now available in disc format, where everything is taught on your PC. Through video streaming, you can watch instructors demonstrating how to do something, then you have a go yourself in an interactive lab. There are testing modules for you to check your understanding, and practice exams so the real thing isn’t scary.

Support for students is a must – look for a package that includes 24/7 direct access to instructors, as anything less will frustrate you and hamper your progress. Avoid message systems with advisors calling back in office hours.

Operating system Support on Your Dedicated Server

by Ben Ingham

Once you have chosen on obtaining your business dedicated server, you need to decide on the server operating system which can depend on the availability, cost and employee expertise.

Unlike the desktop world Microsoft have overwhelming market share. There is a multiplicity of open source operating systems including Linux and FreeBSD. These are often bundled at no extra charge to the customer. Commercial operating systems such as Microsoft Windows Server 2003 or 2008, can be installed on the server if the dedicated server hoster has a Microsoft SPLA agreement.

Red Hat Enterprise is a commercial version of Linux or RHEL offered to hosting providers on a monthly fee basis. However you can use the a RHEL derivative known as Centos which has free updates. With Red Hat there is a subscription which provides for OS updates through the Red Hat Network using an application called up2date which is rpm based

Other operating systems are available from the open source community at no charge. These include CentOS, Fedora Core, Debian, and many other Linux distributions or BSD systems FreeBSD, NetBSD, OpenBSD. Fedora Core is more cutting edge version of RHEL, the latter being designed for stability.

Management for any of the operating systems above mainly depends on the type of management offered with a particular dedicated server package. Operating system support may include upgrades to the core system in order to that the latest patches and security fixes are installed.

Quite often non Microsoft Servers have a control panel installed to manage the server, especially if the intended use of the server is web hosting. Cpanel which is combined with WHM allows for the maintenance of the core operationg system as well as the routine web creation tasks.

The easiest Way to Create Articles

by Paolo Bresco

Many people who need to write articles also procrastinate as much as they can to delay the amount of writing they need to do. Many people dread writing articles because they find researching for the topic and writing down original materials will be too taxing on them. There are many webmasters that find writing articles for their site to be a very tedious task.

These are articles written down by many authors that have declared their works to be public domain, which means anybody can use it for whatever purpose they want. Have you ever heard about public domain? You need to have your creative juices flowing and simply downloading an article would be plagiarism or tantamount to stealing, not exactly.

While most authors would prefer to copyright their work for their rights, there are also a number who doesn’t mind sharing their work. Public domain articles are not owned by anybody and can be used and abused by anyone. The writers have waived their rights to their works and it is out there for the public to make use of.

All the ideas are there already and its just a matter of finding the write article with the topic or subject you need. You can use public domain articles in helping you write your articles. With the public domain articles you can simply edit them to your own style and rewrite them as you please to make it suitable for your needs.

This is probably the easiest way to write articles. You don’t need to scour around the library or the internet for hours for information and start an article from scratch. For webmasters who are looking for articles to fill their site and to generate a high ranking for their website in search engine results, they can just modify the article by infusing keywords and keyword phrases related to their site.

A webmaster or website operator do not risk any chance of getting sued for copyright infringement because they are public domain, once again meaning that anybody can use it. Writing articles by using public domain wont require as much work as writing one from scratch would. You save a lot of time also.

You dismiss the need to hire experienced and seasoned writers that some website operators use to write their articles. While a single five hundred worded article would only set you down 10 to 15 dollars, this cost will drastically increase when you need hundreds of articles to fill the needs of your site. One good factor in using public domain articles for your site or for any project is that you save a lot of money.

You do not need to count on your contributors or pay writers to write down articles for your newsletter or e-zine. You can fill all the pages without any cost or the worry of being sued and sought after by the writers. You can simply copy the articles and place them on your newsletter and e-zine.

The power of articles, keywords and keyword phrases have been deemed invaluable these past few years for many internet based businesses and sites that want to rank high in search engine results. Public domain articles are a virtual untapped resource that many people fail to realize the true value.

The number of article and content writers have grown significantly due to the rise in the demand for articles. As newer and newer topics and subjects have arisen, there are many demands for new articles to be written. An industry has been formed and this is a worldwide demand.

Home Business Loans

by Jimmy Johnson

Imagine what it would be like to work from home. Having done all the usual start of day things, like feed and pack kids off to school or brew and drink two pots of coffee yourself, you walk into your study, turn on your PC and start work. Or you stroll round the back of the house open your workshop and begin wood-turning. Or you get into your greenhouse and begin potting parsley with pesto recipe cards. Whatever you do from home you always enjoy the freedom of choosing your own hours, being your own boss, and not being part of the daily commuter hell.

Home business loans are different from other types of business loans because they allow the individuals to use the money on their home. This is because the business is being run from the home. Additionally, it allows the individual to borrow money in order to help the person to make sure that they are able to successfully run the business.

What’s the difference between secured loans and unsecured loans? Well this is probably not a question that will have you gripping the arms of your chair in breathless anticipation of the answer. But actually it should, because the difference between secured loans and unsecured loans can cost you thousands of pounds in unnecessary overpayment of interest. So if you are at all interested in how to get your home business going then loan conversion from one type to the other may be just the thing you need.

A source of funding like a Home business loan is valuable as it is available and can be relied upon for starting off costs to help you feel secure and enable you to make necessary investments.

An unsecured loan is money with none of the backing of your assets. It is a loan in which you simply use your credit rating to help you borrow money from the bank. People who do not have assets for security or do not want to provide security as back up may prefer this type of loan.

The Single Most Important Aspect of Your Career

by katie George

Do you want to get a promotion and make a lot more money? Do you want to be recognized for your hard work? Do you want to keep your job and not be downsized? In fact, do you want to know the secret to be Upsized? The most important skill you will ever learn is how to study and understand Office Politics.

Office politics play a very important role in whether you get a promotion, an award, the job that you want, or the compensation that you receive. Virtually every aspect of your professional career is influenced by social politics. The proper understanding of the social “food chain” in your work space is essential for your professional success and financial well-being.

To understand why the organization works and how to use that information to your advantage, you must first understand how the “Big Fish” act and think. Who are the “Big Fish”? They are the decision makers, the people who are up-and-coming in the company and the people who hold ultimate power in the company. These are the CEO’s, Presidents, VPs, managers, and supervisors who are what I consider to be “in favor”.

When it comes to these “Big Fish” they typically care only about two things. The first is how they can take credit for increasing the effectiveness of the company and the second is who around them can get the results they need to be successful. To summarize, for these people it is all about self-preservation and self-promotion.

Are the “Big Fish” unethical or self-absorbed? No, the successful people just want excellent employees working for them and they expect results. If you were in a dog-sled race would you want a team of Siberian Huskies or Chihuahuas? The answer is obvious; you would want to win the race so you would want the best team available.

Can this information be helpful to you? Let me ask you

1. Do you think you stand a better chance of getting a promotion working for a “little fish” or a “Big Fish”?

2. Is your chance of getting a good raise better or worse if the VP knows your name and the projects you have worked on?

3. Are you more or less likely to move up in the company if you are working on a “Big Fish’s” pet project?

The bottom line is thisIf you align yourself with a “Big Fish” you will be considered for more opportunities than you would ever have working for a “little fish”. Why? The reason is because people trust people who can get the job done. If the “Big Fish” trusts you then he/she will be comfortable giving you more and more responsibility. And with more responsibility comes promotions and A LOT more money.

Study your office politics and align yourself with a “Big Fish” and will progress your career farther and faster than you ever could have imagined.

3 Easy Steps To Finding Fulfillment In Your Career

by katie George

Most people in the 21st century are not happy with their jobs. Either they have complaints regarding their position in the company, or the company itself. They have concerns regarding their strengths or about their effectiveness at work. And most of all, people are concerned that they are not having fun at work, which is important for satisfaction and fulfillment in the chosen career.

To find fulfillment in your career, you have to find your strengths. You have to know what jobs you are capable of doing and what role you can fulfill to the best of your abilities. Once you identify your strengths and utilize those, you will have a fulfilling career.

Identify Values

To find fulfillment, we need to understand our strengths. To understand our strengths, we need to identify our values. Values are important to everyone. They are your beliefs and understanding of what is right and what is wrong. Values help in decision-making. Once you have your core values in place, will you be able to be a leader and a good team player.

Your values will guide you towards your strengths and this will help you find fulfillment towards your career. Remember that not only do your values matter, but also the values of those around you. Your colleagues and you should try to work towards the acceptance of a certain set of values to ensure smooth working at your workplace, as conflicts do not help in career fulfillment.

Understand Your Personality

You need to understand your personality and the kind of person you are. This is not only important from a career point of view, but also for your personal life. Your personality spells how you work as a person with other people or in situations, how you deal with stress, with challenges and problems. It also tells you how you react to power, authority, risk and supervision.

Socializing, teamwork, performance and listening skills are also a part of your overall personality, along with loyalty, diplomacy and accuracy. Once you understand your personality, you can place yourself in the right kind of environment to get the best results out of your career.

Recognize Your Talents

You need to understand the things that you are good at; the things that come to you easily. Once you have identified your talent, you have to work at it. You have to build and grow. Remember that skills are not talents, neither is expertise in a particular area. Talent is something that you have and you build it and make it work for you.

Finding fulfillment in your chosen career path is not impossible, but it is not an easy process either. Follow these steps and be successful and satisfied in your life and career.
