At first it was easy to be patient. I knew there was going to be a learning curve to get through, but I was determined to figure it out and get rich so I would never have to answer to a boss again. A home business was going to be my ticket to freedom, from a world of chump change.

I signed onto a networking opportunity, that had everything in place after looking at a handful of others. I soon realized how much of a different, incredible world this really is. I kept trying to grasp on to my business, and every time I thought I was going to get a hand on it, I once again realized I had no control.

Ten, eleven months went by with but nothing was happening. I was using every traffic generating device thrown my way. My message was sent to a trillion gazillion opportunity seekers with every click of the mouse. And that was he problem, all those opportunity seekers relying on the click of a mouse.

My business was in my opinion at least in the top ten. But my thoughts of success and prospering were getting foggy. As great as this industry is, my business was flat lining. I figured I wasn’t catching on to the skills or something, and maybe I needed to work harder and longer to sponsor and make sales.

While looking through an ezine one day. I came across something interesting and would have liked to have found this sooner, that went. “You will be more successful if you can create a pumped up emotion in someone about your opportunity. If you have these persuasive skills, your sales will be greater and you will sponsor a lot more.

But once that emotional state wears off, whether it’s a week or months later, the buyer will experience remorse. These people quit and go back to their lives, and unfortunately this is what happens most of the time in this home business arena”. And this is what was happening to me.

I was thrown off by this article because it went on to say, “Within the sponsoring process, the goal is not to sell our prospects on a product or opportunity”. That sounds completely backwards and counter productive doesn’t it? After all, what’s the point if you’re not there to make a sale right?

It all started clicking in my mind, I was realizing something. There’s to many problems in this industry with selling. It stems from the initial offering of the opportunity. There’s so much focus for the new rep to go by the script and make the sale.

Were going head to head with objections, trying to close the deal. Peoples natural instincts are that of not being sold, it’s like were fighting a ton of little battles. Prospects have no trust, and are afraid of getting ripped off. That was a good day for me. I found a better way for the customer, the possible new distributor. Including yours truly.

This is something every entrepreneur should take a look at. Prospects will actually be drawn to you. This has brought my business full steam ahead in a matter of weeks not months. Just what I needed before it was to late because I was giving up on my business.

In 2003, this confident and audacious prediction proved to be incorrect and the Internet had changed the way candidates not only searched for jobs, but applied for them. Businesses were also realising that this was a useful medium and began to advertise internal vacancies online and receive online applications. Arguably, online recruitment (or ‘job surfing’) is now as popular as internet shopping and e-banking.

“The question of control remains at the forefront”, says Jeremy Caplan, European Marketing Director for Monster.com. “HR directors want to be able to track all the candidates coming through different jobsites and screen them as they would if receiving paper applications. Increasingly sophisticated software – improving all the time – can now meet those tailored needs.”

David Taylor, e-entrepreneur, writer and broadcaster disagrees: “The Internet has singularly failed to deliver the potential it promised. The medium will only have arrived when we cease to talk about the Internet and start talking about what we are doing on it. Transactions are now faster and the Internet has increased the reach of those using it, but the landscape still looks the same. The internet is very much part of our lives, particularly online job hunting, but it has not replaced any other medium – it is just another ‘dial tone'”.

And, the Internet has certainly not eliminated recruitment agencies as predicted. Far from original conjectures, only those who either invested too much money or none at all into the Internet – at the expense of their core services – have plunged into recruitment oblivion.

“Recruiters still suffer image problems”, Taylor continues. “They are perceived as the estate agents of business. Post September 11th saw a global shift in how recruitment agencies, and a multitude of other industries, embraced their existing relationships with both client and candidate. Recruitment companies need ethical foundations to promote their values and align with this high demand.”

The Internet is here to stay, but it still has a long way to go in order to compete with good old fashioned face-to-face communication.
