Using Voice Recognition With Bluetooth Cell Phones

When you are on the road you need to be able to receive calls on your mobile phone. It is unrealistic of legislators to say that no calls should take place while you are driving. I do agree that you should not use a hand to hold your phone to your ear. I also agree that any use of the cell phone must remove the need to look away from the road to operate it. But with the introduction of better voice recognition applications there is simply no need to use a cell phone in an unsafe way.

Bluetooth headsets are absolute boons to working folks across the world. As phones increasingly support the wireless standard, these headsets allow them to talk hands free and concentrate on other activities, such as driving or merely walking around. It sure is much more enjoyable to walk around when you don’t have to hold a phone to your head, and it’s much safer to drive when you can keep both eyes on the road. If you want a headset that is good for talking on the phone but not much else, then a Bluetooth mobile headset is the choice to make to save you money.

The voice recognition systems mean that when a call comes in you can answer it with your voice. When you want to make a call you simply use your voice to instruct the mobile phone to make the call.

Voice Recognition Advances

The early voice recognition cell phones were not very good. They were difficult to set up and did not work with all voices. Now that processor technology has improved so much, the audio signals can now be deciphered quickly and accurately. The software has been developed to take account of regional accents and dialects. The most important improvement is that the software “learns” the voice of the owner over time. So the accuracy becomes better and better over time. This voice technology has vastly improved the functionality of Bluetooth cell phones. The voice recognition software is also being applied to desktop computing and other business uses.

As a result of these improvements drivers can make and receive calls safely. They do not need to look or even touch their cell phone

Bluetooth mobile phones detect the driver’s voice and place the call automatically, and then the driver can talk without holding the phone to an ear by using a Bluetooth enabled headset or using the Bluetooth cell phone’s speaker phone functionality. Keeping hands on the wheel and eyes on the road makes driving that much safer, not just for the driver but for everybody on the road.

The other reason that voice recognition works better is that the Bluetooth headsets are more comfortable and the microphones are more sensitive. The microphones are also good at filtering out unwanted noise and other sounds. The combination of better voice recognition and Bluetooth headsets makes hands free calls in your car as safe as it can be. What needs to happen is for drivers to buy in to this voice recognition technology and stop using their hands and eyes to make calls. It always amazes me that someone will drive a 30,000 car and not spend another 100 on a decent Bluetooth headset to help them drive safely.

How to Prepare For a Review at Work

Most people look forward to job reviews about as much as they do a root canal. No matter how well you think you’re doing, there’s always the possibility that your supervisor will see things differently and call you on the carpet for your actions-or inactions. But there are steps you can take before, during, and after your evaluation to boost your career and actually help you look forward to reviews in the future.

Before the Review

Get on the boss’ calendar. While most people don’t enjoy a performance review, they are crucial to your career. So if your boss doesn’t conduct them on a regular basis (annually or semi-annually), the best thing you can do is ask for one. Why? First, you really do need to know what your supervisor thinks of your performance so that you can continue the good stuff and change the bad stuff. Unless you want to spend the rest of your career exactly where you are, that is. Second, reviews are typically when employers hand out raises and promotions. Not a bad incentive to schedule one today.

Come prepared. Sure, performance evaluations mostly consist of your manager telling you how she thinks you’re doing, but it should include some two-way communication. You should be prepared to share important information-such as your sales numbers, praise from satisfied clients, and projects you’ve spearheaded-so that you can lay out the positive contributions you’ve made.

During the Review

Stay calm. You may feel as jumpy as a kid in the principal’s office, but you need to force yourself to stay cool and professional at all times. And if the boss turns the conversation into a list of all the ways you’ve fallen short over the past year, don’t argue. It is okay, however, to respectfully point out the strengths you’ve brought to the organization. This is where your list of accomplishments comes in handy. And remember to never, ever take what your supervisor says personally. It’s business.

Iron out a plan for the next year. To avoid any surprises in future reviews, you need to know how your success will be measured. Ask your boss to work with you on a plan for the coming year (or six months) so that you both know how your progress will be measured. If there are markers in place-and you meet them-you’ll never fear a review again.

Ask for her input. You want to make sure your manager knows how committed you are to doing a good job for her. It may become crystal clear what skills she thinks you need to work on, but if not, ask her to share with you the areas in which she believes you need to improve. You’ll not only score major points for asking, but this may be the most valuable information you get out of your review.

Thank him. Especially if you feel like you’ve been raked over the coals, you may not want to express gratitude. But think about it this way: your boss has just given you very powerful information. He’s told you where he believes you have room for improvement, and, assuming you can make changes in those areas, you’re on your way to serious career growth. More money, more responsibility, a new title-it all starts with knowing where you stand with the head honcho.

After the Review

Determine a course of action. You should come out of your review with an action plan for the coming months, and there’s no time like the present to begin working on your goals. If your boss indicated that you need to acquire more skills to advance, begin looking into that computer or marketing class now.

Start looking around. If your review was more of a blood-letting than a constructive conversation between employer and employee, you may have to face the fact that your boss either doesn’t like you or doesn’t like the work you’re doing. If you think you can change one or both of those things, by all means, give it a try. If you don’t think that’s a possibility, start putting out discreet feelers for other opportunities.

Mini-Dow Index Trading Tip – Watch the Big Board

We are often asked why so many of our index trading students are now trading the Mini-Dow successfully and not the S&P Emini. While any index will do, we especially like the mini-Dow.

Because of the faster movement of the Dow versus the S&P 500, the mini-Dow more closely follows it’s big board parent.

So if it is just a matter of speed, then the mini-Russell would be even better right? Not exactly. The problem with the Russell is the low volume. This will no doubt change in the future. The mini-Dow had too low a volume for our money just a couple years ago, but that has now changed.

One more reason why we prefer the Mini-Dow is that we like no-cost tools, and it is much easier to find a reliable Dow chart. In fact there are many online that work just fine.

No matter which Index you prefer, we feel it is an advantage to watch the big board chart, and not the mini chart. We also prefer the 5 minute time frame.

Many traders watch both, which is what I did years ago before deciding to focus on the big board. Here’s why. I found that I would not move on what the mini chart was telling me unless I confirmed it with the big board. A popular confirmation among traders. It finally hit me that if I would not make a trade without confirming it with the big board, then why did I need the mini chart at all?

When I dropped the mini chart and focused on the big board movement, my trading improved. I have sinced confirmed this strategy with Hundreds of my students and other traders. Just recently, one of my students who moved on to using the mini-chart (a paid service I might add), came back to our style and is now focusing on the no-cost big board chart we use. He also confirmed that his trading improved, and he now sees why we focus on the big board.

The mini chart (even in the 5 min time frame) is like trading with a 1 minute chart. There are too many head fake moves that get you in a trade before it has fully developed. The big board averages some of those moves out for you. It keeps you on the sidelines when you should be. Sure, you might not get in as early on some runs, but in the long term it will save you!

It is difficult to catch any move from top to bottom or vice-versa, but by watching the big board you can fairly easily get a nice chunk out of the middle (or many chunks with our BIG MONEY small trades strategy). A few nice chunks a week will keep you from needing a bail out plan!
