Personal computers have completely revolutionized the way the world, lives, works and conducts business. Strictly-speaking, computers arrived on the scene way back in 1936 when one Konrad Zuse produced what was then called the Z1 computer. This was a cumbersome machine that could perform simple calculations and also crunch simple data. This was not as sophisticated as what we have today but it served to set the foundation for further research and in 1944, John Atanasoff and Clifford Berry from Iowa University built on this model and produced several innovations of the computer which was capable of producing arithmetic calculations, parallel [processing, memory regeneration and other simple computing tasks. The research was taken further at Harvard University, then IBM, the business conglomerate joined the fray and in 1953 produced what was then the world’s first sophisticated computer. Even then, it was still large, occupying entire floors and consuming untold power.

As we have mentioned, computers have completely changed the way we live and work. Today, computers are in almost every office. There are still offices in some parts of the world which still don’t have computers but this is now rare because without computers, work is inefficient and cumbersome. Take for instance calculations. It would take days for companies to do simple calculations not to mention companies that deal with lots of material and inventory. Computers make this work simple and allow businesses to become more efficient on a day to day basis.

Another use of computers is communication. With computers has come the wondrous world of the Internet or what is called in other circles, the World Wide Web or Information Superhighway. As much as computer has changed the way we work, they have also revolutionized the way we communicate. The term “the world is a smaller place” or phrases like “global market place”.

This is because the Internet has made communication so easy and seamless that there has people can communicate instantaneously regardless of what part of the globe they are located. The world of email, although it hasn’t completely resulted in the eradication of snail mail, has nevertheless caused a decline in visits to the post office or the purchase of stamps. All this is because people now sit behind a computer and email back and forth. To go even further, specialized Internet software run by many major companies such as Microsoft, Yahoo and Google has made it possible to chat in real time with someone on the other side of the globe. Video conferencing has also been made possible.

This has completely changed the way we conduct meetings. Businesses can now even open branches in other countries faster because the top level management can communicate with lower management via video conferencing. People can actually see each other regardless of where they are located and all this is courtesy of the advent of computers and the Internet. Computers have evolved a lot since and are now in almost half of all US households and most offices in the rest of the world.

These numbers are drastic drops from last year and it shows that companies are starting to level out a little bit as far as their layoffs and even more with hiring freeze. Companies will cut employees, but they will be looking to hire as times get better. They will hire those same people back and you need to gather as much information as possible and nurture those candidates so you can be a part of the turn around.

Canon SD770IS Review

I bought the Canon SD770IS to substitute my PowerShot A95. A few years ago, I purchased a Digital Elph for my daughter and found myself using that small and light camera, instead of my A95. Due to the advancements in technology, it was time to upgrade.

The most crucial feature in searching for a replacement was a small size and the use of a rechargeable battery. Resolution was less a factor as the A95, with just 5 Mpixels, produced clear images. The most powerful advance, even over the recent Elph, was in the increased speed of all functions including boot up and picture recording.

Image quality is stellar and the color balance and metering is brilliant. If you now own a Canon digital camera and are upgrading, the standard navigation stays mainly the identical, so that will be common to you. Use of the camera’s shooting styles requires the use of menus instead of a physical dial as on the A95.

The screen is pretty big, well illuminated and easy to view, even in bright light. Ultimately, the most essential condition with digital picture taking should be image quality and ease of use. I have a lot of experience with manual SLR picture cameras and similar point and shoots, and this model suits perfectly for true “turn it on and shoot” photography. Pictures are crisp and vivid with solid detail and vibrant color.

A high capacity (SDHC) storage card will hold a large amount of photographs even at the highest resolution. I would recommend both a high capacity SD card and the optional leather case to protect the camera, especially if dropped.

This camera just blows me away. It takes brilliant photographs in full-auto mode. In situations where full-auto doesn’t quite do the job as good as possible, this camera lets you change the ISO settings, white balance, focus method, and tons of other factors.

I extremely recommend this camera for someone looking for an easy-to-use, light, small and good digital camera. It’s just a superb camera at a great price.

Canon EOS Flash Photography Explained

One of the most common confusion which occurs with the Canon EOS flash photography is the fact that the Canon EOS modes like the Program (P ), Shutter Priority (TV) , Aperture Priority (AV) and Manual (M) modes handle flash illumination is different ways. This is especially so when the ambient light is not strong. This guide will give a brief run down of how the various modes work when the flash is activated. This guide also assumes that the FP mode is not turned on.

The P (Program) Mode

With the P mode, The Shutter speed is set to the highest possible speed to let you be able to hold the camera with your hands. You will also not have the problem of motion blur since the shutter speed is set fast enough to compensate for the low ambient light conditions. The P mode also functions when the ambient light is high. Under High ambient lighting conditions, the Camera will assume that the foreground will be flashed filled. Therefore, the output of the flash will be low powered. Conversely when the ambient light is low, the flash will be adjusted to give a higher output. The shutter speed will also be adjusted accordingly. But the picture will result in having a dark background.

Shutter Priority (TV) Mode

With this mode, the Camera lets you decide the shutter speed instead. It will decide on the aperture priority settings to suit the shutter speed that you have chosen to make sure that the exposure level is correct. The flash pulse duration will be decided by the flash metering system. In essence the Camera will always function under fill flash mode when in TV mode. This is the opposite of the “P” mode. The Canon EOS system will also indicate to you if the background is too dark. You will see this warning when the Maximum aperture settings begin to blink in the viewfinder. If this happens, you have to reduce the shutter speed and use a tripod stand to hold the camera to avoid motion blurring.

AV (Aperture Priority) Mode

If you are using the Aperture priority mode, you can determine the camera depth of field (DOF) when you adjust the lens aperture. What the camera will do instead is to adjust the shutter speed to expose the background to the right exposure. The duration of the flash pulse will be determined by the camera flash metering system as well. Pay attention that the shutter speed is set low or not. If the shutter speed is set low, you will need to use a tripod to hold the camera. Otherwise, you will end up with pictures which are blurred because of motion. Here in this mode, the camera will also work in fill flash mode just like under TV mode. Canon has several camera models which possesses a function which allows you to synchronize the X-Sync speed to the Shutter speed. The models which have this function are the Canon Elan II/ EOS 50 and the EOS10/10s.

M (Manual ) Mode

Under this mode, you will specify both the shutter and aperture speed of the camera. You will also determine the exposure setting of the camera. The camera will, through the flash metering system, calculate the flash output to illuminate the fore-ground.
