HTML and XHTML in Adobe Dreamweaver

HTML is a simple markup language used to create documents designed to be accessed across the World Wide Web using browser software such as Internet Explorer or Firefox. The current version of HTML is known as XHTML, a stricter, rationalised version of the original HTML specification. One key fact to note about HTML and XHTML pages is that they describe the content and structure of the page rather than the position and presentation of the elements on the page.

The first difference between an HTML and XHTML page is the document type definition. There are several ways in which this specification can be made in Dreamweaver. One of the simplest is to go to the Modify menu and choose Page Properties. Here, in the Title/Encoding category, one of the options reads Document Type (DTD).

There are quite a few options available in the drop-down menu next to this setting, some relating to HTML version 4 and some to XHTML version 1. These DTD settings specify the rules that the mark-up language must follow so that the browsers can render the content correctly. For any new content you may be creating, the best specification to choose is XHTML 1.0 transitional since it uses the current XHTML specification while allowing backward compatibility with slightly older browsers.

When looking at an HTML page, the structural content is perhaps not immediately apparent. However Dreamweaver provides a number of useful ways of keeping tabs on the structure of your web page content. One of these is known as the Tag Selector. Wherever the cursor is positioned, the HTML code relating to that part of the page is displayed in the bottom left of the page on the Status Bar in an area called the Tag Selector.

When the browser reads the page, the tags that surround text and other elements tell the browser the structural importance of each element. The H1 tag, for example, tells the browser that a piece of text is a major heading. The H2 tag surrounds sub-headings, and so on. As these tags are displayed in the Tag Selector, you can get an idea of the structure of the page you are looking at and you can also click on the tags to select the element they contain.

The tags tell the browser the structural importance of each element. However the page doesn’t contain any information that helps the browser decide how each element should be displayed. This is the job of CSS Cascading Style Sheets. An XHTML page is still essentially an HTML page. However, its syntax is stricter. Let’s take a couple of examples…

XHTML is case sensitive: HTML is not. In XHTML, tags are always lowercase so the H1 tag has to be written h1. In HTML H1 or h1 can be used.

In XHTML, the closing tag is obligatory: in HTML it is permissible to have an opening tag without a closing tag. One such example is a horizontal rule (hr) which creates a dividing line between two sections on a webpage. This element is represented by a single tag, since it can never be used as a container. In XHTML, there is a special syntax for such elements: a single tag which is both an opening and closing tag (hr/). In HTML, the single opening tag is used with no closing tag (hr).

In summary, XHTML is the current version of HTML and this is the standard that should be used for any new projects. However, existing projects that one may inherit may well contain HTML rather the XHTML. Therefore, one should be aware of both. Remember also that HTML and XHTML describe only structural aspects of web page content: neither of them should contain information regarding the presentation and display of content. The display and presentation of web content should be specified using CSS.

Use Bluetooth For A Personal Area Network

The latest technology of Bluetooth has allowed brought about a fair amount of revolution in the way devices communicate with each other. It is a technology that has been in use since 1999 but now is being put to widespread use. This amazing piece of technology allows the user to connect the PDA, mobile phone, MP3 player and just about any digital device, that supports the function, to communicate with each other. This concept of having all your devices Bluetooth enabled so that they can exchange information is being called PAN or Personal Area Network.

Like the 802.11 wireless technology, Bluetooth also uses radio signals to create bandwidth but it does not require a receiver to be plugged in the USB port of the computer. The range of Bluetooth is much better than this erstwhile technology and is allowing people to go further into a world devoid of entangled wires.

Developed and designed to be a low cost, secure and easy to use technology, Bluetooth is available in two classes: class 1 and class 2. Class 1 is relatively uncommon one and can detect other Bluetooth devices in the range of 100 meters. Class 2 is the more used and common one and enables access up to a range of 10 meters only.

A Bluetooth enabled computer has a receiver installed inside and can connect simultaneously with a maximum of 7 other devices. Though most of the computers being manufactured today (and definitely all the Apple Macs) have a Bluetooth receiver installed, if your older computer needs does not have one, it can easily be made to accept and send Bluetooth messages. This can be done by using a USB to Bluetooth adaptor or installing it internally. Also if it is a notebook that needs to be Bluetooth enabled and you have a spare PCMCIA slot, you could use a Bluetooth card to get going with Bluetooth.

The ease of use, affordability and instant compatibility one can now download all the data on addresses, contacts, things to do and notes on to the computer in a jiffy. Downloading pictures from digital cameras, saving mp3 audio files from the mp3 player and sending a print command to the printer have now become much easier without the need for long twisted and messy looking cables. It is also being used in areas other than that of computers. Hands free headsets for mobiles phones are today hands free and wire free. Car phones can use the same concept to enable speaking on the phone and driving a seamless affair. The list of devices that Bluetooth can be used with includes cordless phones, faxes, headsets and video.

As always people have discovered new applications for the latest technology. One of such uses is called ‘Bluejacking’. In ‘Bluejacking’ people can send messages from their mobile phones to other mobile phones in the vicinity without accessing the mobile service providers network. The first ever message that was sent using ‘Bluejacking’ was ‘Buy Ericsson’. Though it seems to have limited use it can be a fun thing to do among friends. “Bluecasting’ is another such use which has captured the interest of advertisers. In this process, Bluetooth enabled billboards and signposts can be used to send relevant and appropriate messages to all Bluetooth devices in the area. This method of advertising is extremely relevant for location specific businesses like food service restaurants, malls and the like.

Truck Driving Jobs and Trucking Companies

As a student or new driver just entering into a truck driving career, the number one question on your mind is whether or not a particular trucking company is a “good” one. The question, “Is this a good company to work for?” is asked of me practically on a daily basis. You will hear good things about a company and you will hear bad things about a company…that is just the nature of the business. You may have researched many of the driver forums across the internet to see what drivers are saying about a certain company. Usually, by the time you get done with many of these forums, you are more confused than when you started.

No one company can make 100% of their drivers happy. This is the case in any business. It is just human nature. This is why there will be ten drivers who will speak positive of a trucking company, and then twelve other drivers will speak negative about the same company. Also, many times a recruiter or dispatcher can log in on the forum and post only good things about the company. There is also the factor concerning the old saying, “There is always two sides to a story.” A driver could be blasting a particular company but how do you know that the driver was really not the one at fault? All these forums are good tools to use in order to check out trucking companies or particular truck driving jobs, but they are not 100% fool proof.

One thing about truck drivers is that they have no problem when it comes to speaking their minds. But after spending hours and hours searching through the forums and sorting through pages and pages of company listings, you may still find yourself totally confused on what to believe. Furthermore, your one question, “Is this a good company to work for” is still left unanswered. Have you ever done a search for “best trucking companies?” You will find many pages showing a list of trucking companies, but that is all it is…a list. You still have no idea which company is a “good” one or which company is a “bad” one. It can be very frustrating, to say the least.

When searching for the right trucking companies or the better truck driving jobs, one must take into account several aspects of criteria:

1. How long has the company been in business? 2. What is their turn over rate? 3. What is their starting pay? 4. What are there actual mileage average? 5. How quickly are their earning increases? 6. How easy will it be for them to get you home? 7. What are there freight lanes?

There are many questions that should be answered and researched before you simply pick a trucking company as your employer. Are there good companies out there? Absolutely! Finding them is the key. Locating a “list” of trucking company “names” will not help you at all. You want a “list” of only the names of trucking companies that are considered to be the best of the best, as well as “why” they are considered the better ones. If you cannot find the “why”…then what is the purpose of the list?

As a student or new driver, or even as a driver who just has not yet found that one company that treats their drivers fairly and honestly, locating the best truck driving job can be a struggle. Do your homework. Investigate each company thoroughly…talk to other drivers…check them out with the Better Business Bureau…continue to read the forums…anything you can do in order to get the right “feel” for the company. Then, with all the information you’ve acquired, utilize your best judgment in choosing.

It is true, registry corruption wasn’t very much of a consideration a few years back. However, now with the huge file systems Windows XP and Vista operate under, it takes a long times for one operation to take place when it has to work through corruption. I know this may not make sense, but one piece of corruption will probably only affect a small area of a small operating system. However, the same amount of corruption will affect many ares in a large operating system. That is just the way it is.

Registry corruption will cause a computer to slow down. Sometimes this slowing down can be quite significant. Registry corruption will also cause errors and crashes. These things seem to mock the presence of spyware or viruses. Still, corruption must be dealt with when it is present.

Registry Cleaners Are a Good Thing

I’d like to know what anybody who doesn’t use registry cleaners does when they run into problems with their computer’s that are caused by registry corruption, because I’ve seen a good registry cleaner solve problems with poorly functioning computers 100’s of times!

In any event, the first thing I do when I encounter a slow computer is make sure there is no spyware or viruses present. Then, once I know the PC is free of these things and it is still does not perform normally, a registry scan is the next logical step.

If this scan finds little, there is nothing you can do, but if you find a lot of corruption and it is likely you will, bite the bullet and purchase the cleaner and clean the corruption out. People who consistently fail never seem to realize that the way they perceive the world around them has a significant impact on their lives. What they think about, what they feel and ultimately the actions they take or do not take are based on perception. Are you someone who is optimistic and sees the glass half full or someone who is pessimistic and always seems to find fault with everything around you? What Is Perception?

Perception is one of our intellectual factors that governs how we view the world. Based on our perception of the world around us can we make choices about where we want to go and who we want to be. Doesn’t it seem logical that if perception is the beginning of thought formulation than it deserves some attention?

How can I use the intellectual factor of perception?

You were born perfect. Your intellectual factor of perception when you were a baby was incredible. You used your five senses: sight, smell, taste, hearing, and touch to observe the world around you. As you matured you started to form beliefs that shaped your perceptions. For example, if a child went to the gas station with his father and noticed the price of gas was five dollars a gallon he would see this information, but not have a special belief associated with it. The father on the other hand might view this price of gas as a serious problem. Based on the father’s frame of reference he might perceive that the price of gas directly relates to his disposable income. Is it a fact or is this a belief that the price of gas is a major contributor to someone’s disposable income?

Another way to perceive the same situation is that the price of gas has gone up and therefore costs have gone up. Therefore I better get more creative to serve more people so I can earn more money to have an even better lifestyle.

Another interpretation might be gee the price of gas is going up maybe I should buy an call option on crude oil. You can either respond or react to the world around you. A response implies the act of thinking and looking for the good in the situation while simply reaction implies no thinking and often complaining.

How Do You Perceive Life?

Are you one of those individuals who always seems to find the positive side of any situation? Do you look for the good in people or do you pick apart all of their faults? Are you essentially a happy person or are you generally depressed? Perhaps somewhere in between? Do you think there is room for improvement to be happier and more in control of your emotions? All of these questions have one thing in common – your perceptions cloud everything around you.

Make up your mind to change the way you perceive things for a happier and healthier life.

I believe you’re reading this article because you really do want to be happier, healthier and wealthier. These are the basic factors that we can consider in terms of getting really great results in life. If this is you, and if you are serious, I challenge you to become hyperaware of how you perceive everything around you. Stop complaining to people and to yourself when things do not go well. Have the strength to be able to keep a positive mental attitude during difficult times and look for the good in a bad situation. Ask yourself what is the alternative? If you have a bad situation on your hands and you look for what’s bad about the situation how can this lead to any good? Unless you’re one of those strange people who enjoy wallowing in misery this is not a recipe for a successful life.

The intellectual factor of perception is a very important ingredient to building awareness and knowledge. Successful people understand this and choose to be very cognizant of how they perceive things. I encourage you to be optimistic and to realize that there are many ways to look at a situation. What looks to you to be an obvious solution from another angle might appear completely different. Focus at looking at issues from multiple vantage points and I guarantee you’ll get better results.
