Starting a Free Membership Site

by Kim and Charles Petty

Basically, a free membership site is a site where the user is not charged a membership fee to use the site but is required to supply their e-mail address, choose a user name and password to enter the site, participate in the discussions and activities. Sometimes free memberships are limited to less useful information or access while paid memberships have full access.

A large entity like MSN, for example, allows members to access most things on their sites without the need for any sign in procedure at all but, in order to join a group, you must supply your email address, choose a user name and a password. The use of the site is still free. However, to use MSN as your ISP or to gain enhanced email resources you will be required to pay for it.

In the same way, an individual might start a free membership website. There would be no charge at all to access the site. To gain access to limited information would require supplying an email address, choosing a user name and a password. To gain full access to the site would most likely require payment if the information they are providing merits a fee.

Some sites never charge a membership fee and rely solely on selling their own product or promoting products produced by others as a source of income.

Free membership sites very rarely, if ever, supply information that you couldn’t easily acquire on the Internet yourself. An individual who sets up a free membership site doesn’t do it for free so they will be planning to make an income in some way. Usually free membership sites are for the purpose of selling a product or service. Some information will be provided but supplying information is not the main objective.

The Different Types of Membership Sites

by Kim and Charles Petty

There are basically two types of membership sites. There are free sites and there are paid for sites. The two types of membership sites have one thing is common. Their memberships are made up of people who share a common interest or have a common need.

You can, of course, buy a domain, set up a website and not charge for memberships but choose who to admit and who not to admit. This is done when the profit is intended to come from sales to members after they join the site. There are free network sites that might be used for your purposes. Two examples of free membership sites are Group sites on MSN and groups on Yahoo. It costs nothing to set these sites up and there is no charge at all for a person to join. There are no paid administrators or moderators.

Each site sets its own rules for how to join and the code of conduct for the site. The site topics are many and varied. There are many “support” sites for those with health problems or concerns and for those who have suffered the loss of loved ones. There are sites for those who are passionate about crafts like quilting or woodworking. There are sites for those who love to travel.

There are sites for different age groups from teens to seniors. The sites include chat software and a limited amount of space for posting pictures, documents and links per member. The free sites do not have such things as access to specialized data or lists. They don’t give access to such things as music lessons.

Paid for membership sites are set up by businesses or individuals with the objective of making money by supplying hard to find information, access to specialized data or lists, or instruction in various fields. Membership sites are owned and operated by people who either own the sites or who are hired by the site owners to monitor and administer them. The topics for paid for membership sites are even more varied than the free sites and certainly more specialized.

Now Is the Time to Buy Denver Real Estate

by Jim Lux

Ever thought about moving to Denver Colorado? This beautiful city has suffered some of the same real estate woe that the rest of the nation is enduring. Depending on your financial situation, these woes can work both for and against you. Some families in Denver have found themselves unable to afford their home or find financing for a new home. But others are able to purchase great investment properties at rock bottom prices in the Denver real estate market.

Many have wondered why the nation is experiencing such a turbulent housing crisis over the last 12 months. Many factors have helped create this situation. Thousands of homeowners in Denver alone have had their homes foreclosed due to unfortunate events in their lives or perhaps due to poor decisions they might have made when securing financing for their new homes.

Many people made mistakes by taking out additional mortgages on their homes in expectations that the value of their homes were going to skyrocket. They found themselves in serious situations when the real estate market took a nose dive along with the value of their homes. This left the homeowners upside down in their mortgages with respect to the value ratio of the home.

Some families saw their homes foreclosed after getting an adjustable interest rate mortgage without understanding just how high their payments would become after the rate adjusted higher. When the interest rates on their homes increased, their payments did as well, often times to levels they just couldn’t afford. Several missed payments later, and another home was foreclosed.

Today, many investors have begun taking advantage of the declining prices of homes due to these foreclosures. And, instead of renting out these homes, many investors are leaving the homes empty while they wait for the market to recover. Once this recovery occurs and home prices begin to climb again, these investors will be in a good position to make a solid profit.

Individuals who have been unaffected by the housing crisis in Denver will be able to benefit greatly from the low prices of many homes in the Denver real estate market. You can choose from hundreds of homes at nearly a forty percent decrease in prices from just two years ago.

You can find many homes to choose from in areas like Aurora, Wheatridge, Littleton, and others. Houses still are selling nicely here, and prices remain relatively stable. Conifer, Morrison, Evergreen and other outlying areas in the Denver real estate market are still hot. Not every place in Denver is experiencing a decline in prices, as is evident if you look at these attractive areas.

While many people in the Denver area are suffering through the turbulent housing situation, many are actually finding great opportunities in the Denver real estate market. Rentals continue to be in high demand and rental rates have greatly increased as well. Perhaps now is the time to find a solid realtor in order to purchase an investment property before real estate prices begin their climb again.

If you’re not already thinking about investing, you might be too late!

Deciding on Your Membership Model

Good Design Practices

by Kim and Charles Petty

Your website is where your business resides — it’s like the headquarter of an offline company. Hence, it is important to practice good design principles to make sure your site reaches out to the maximum number of visitors and sells to as many people as possible.

Make sure you have clear directions on the navigation of your website. The navigation menu should be uncluttered and concise so that visitors know how to navigate around your website without confusion.

Reduce the number of images on your website. They make your site load very slowly and more often than not they are very unnecessary. If you think any image is essential on your site, make sure you optimize them using image editing programs so that they have a minimum file size.

Keep your text paragraphs at a reasonable length. If a paragraph is too long, you should split it into seperate paragraphs so that the text blocks will not be too big. This is important because a block of text that is too large will deter visitors from reading your content.

Make sure your website complies to web standards at www.w3.org and make sure they are cross-browser compatible. If your website looks great in Internet Explorer but breaks horribly in Firefox and Opera, you will lose out on a lot of prospective visitors.

Avoid using scripting languages on your site unless it is absolutely necessary. Use scripting languages to handle or manipulate data, not to create visual effects on your website. Heavy scripts will slow down the loading time of your site and even crash some browsers. Also, scripts are not supported across all browsers, so some visitors might miss important information because of that.

Use CSS to style your page content because they save alot of work by styling all elements on your website in one go.

Creating a Website

by Roberto beiro

Back in the early days of the Internet, only a select few were able to, or could be bothered with, creating a website. The thing was that the Internet was still clunky and slow, and was the domain of nerds and real programmers who had the knowledge to make a website. These people understood HTML.

Dreamweaver had not been invented yet, so building websites took a huge amount of time and effort. It was not something to be entered into lightly as it it was a very challenging for the inexperienced.

Thankfully those days are well and truly over. Nowadays pretty much anyone can create a website, and for those who wish to publish or market on the internet it is a neccessity. Blogging is a phenomenon that is growing by thousands daily.

If you have not learned to make your own website, you have some catching up to do. After all, sites such as My Space and Live Journal make it so easy that people who are complete novices on the Internet are doing it.

I built my first website just a few months ago. I kept telling people that I was to busy to waste my time messing around on my computer. Truth be told, I thought I wasn’t capable of producing a website as good as some of the others that I’d seen.

I was far below the level of most of my friends were at. I knew nothing about building a professional website. At best, I could make something stripped down and basic to display my content. Never the less, I decided it was worth a try.

When I got into my stride, I realised it wasn’t that dificult after all. There is plenty of free web hosting out there if you look properly. I used a WYSIWYG web builder program which meant I didn’t need HTML knowledge. It took about 30 mins to create a pretty good example with articles , blogs and pictures on it.

If you are interested in making a website with a more professional layout, it will take longer, but it is still nothing for you to worry about. Best of all, you will feel more included by your online friends, and you might just make new friends as well!

Publishing Your eZine – the Cons

by Kim and Charles Petty

As with any other types of businesses, publishing your own online newsletter a.k.a. eZine has its share of drawbacks, in spite of the several benefits it offer.

The purpose of this article is not to scare you away with the disadvantages of publishing your own eZine, as the benefits are often more attractive. However, I will also show you how you can easily tackle the cons.

One obvious challenge most beginning eZine publishers face is the creation of eZine content. Creating your own content can be tiresome, especially if you are not a gifted writer and that you run out of ideas every so often that your publishing schedule is threatening you.

A way of taking care of this problem is to create your content in advance. You can compile 30 days worth of content in one day, for example. If you are not blessed with writing skills, you can broker the writing task to capable freelance writers which you can find at places such as http://www.elance.com/ or http://www.rentacoder.com/. While you need to pay for such services, you are at liberty to take the credit for written articles.

Alternatively, you can republish articles from article directories such as http://ezinearticles.com/. This is a free method you can use in making content, provided you include the resource box of the original author and that the article has republishing rights conveyed.

In conclusion, you can easily tackle the content creation challenge using the mentioned methods that do not require writing on your part, free or paid.

Make money with your own home business

by david johannessen

Many people dream of quitting their “day job” Just over broke and starting their own business. Owning a business seems to be part of the American dream. The bottom line is that the surest way to really get ahead is to own a successful business. There are, of course, some people who do well working for someone else. However, most people find themselves unable to ever really ever get ahead and at the end of the year may find themselves wondering what they are actually working for.

Working for someone else will never result in wealth – except perhaps for the employer. This is not to accuse all employers of being greedy or stealing from their employees. This is simply a fact of business. People are in business to make a profit. When an employer hires someone to perform a job the employer pays the employee less than they produce and uses the difference for profit. No employer will ever pay you what you are worth! They would be out of business if they paid you what you are worth. The only way to earn what you are actually worth is to be in business for yourself.

Most people would like to operate their own business. Owning and operating a business is not easy work. In fact, operating your own business may be the hardest or the most fun work you have ever done. When you are in business for yourself there is no one else to be responsible for making certain everything is finished . However, operating a business may also be one of the most rewarding things you have ever done. There are many benefits to operating your own business, including unlimited profit potential, building wealth through equity in the business, control over when, where and how you work, and the time freedom to be creative and try what you think will work.

A home-based business may be the best way for many people to realize their dreams of owning and operating a business. A home business can significantly reduce start-up costs like rent, utilities, phone bills, and more. Home businesses also offer some unique tax benefits that can further help to offset business start-up costs. Home businesses also provide maximum flexibility, eliminate commuting time, and may make it easier for parents with children at home to balance work and family obligations. With a home business you don’t need to be in two places at once. In many communities opening a home business is as simple as declaring your name to be in business. Even in communities with some regulations on home businesses it is still usually easier to start a home business than to launch an off-site business. This ease of start-up is another reason why home businesses are becoming so popular.

Owning a business is part of the American dream. Operating a home business can be a great way to realize that dream. Home-based businesses provide many advantages for people who work alone or only have a few employees working for them. Even if you eventually need to rent storage, manufacturing or office space at another location you can easily run much of your business from home. Modern technology has all but eliminated the problems of distance and space. Starting a home business is perhaps the best path to achieving and living the American dream of owning and operating a business.

Free Hidden Objects Games Are Cool

by Steve Smith

There is a new pc game taking the internet, and the pc world, by storm right now. If you have heard of them, and even played them, then you know what I mean. They are completely addicting and can encapsulate you right from the beginning. But if you have no clue as to which games I am speaking of, then let me tell you: Free hidden objects games.

What are you suppose to do?

You play these cool little games just as their titles say: you find hidden objects. Really, that is it. The games can be in all sorts of different setups, but the theme sort of goes like this. You are tasked with finding a list of objects on the computer screen. It could be just to find the list in a screen, or to find the differences between 2 screens. Sometimes they allow hints, sometimes you can use a magnifying glass, others are just straight forward.

OK, so what makes this so cool?

For starters, you are being timed. You only have a certain amount of time to figure this stuff out. It may be trying to figure out the differences between 2 screens, or trying to put together a puzzle on the screen, and get it done super fast so you can keep moving on.

The other thing that makes these games pretty cool is there are many of them based on mystery novels. Your job is to find clues and solve a mystery. Some of the titles, or themes, are Agatha Christie, Sherlock Holmes, and there is one called the Titanic, where it is your job to find stuff for the museum.

One other thing that makes these games so cool is the game within the games. There will be times where you can do some additional figuring out for extra points, but you must do it fast. While there is no time on these smaller games, it is still taking away from your overall time. Do them fast, or just skip them. You must decide.

If you are a thinking person, and like games where you need to figure something out, then these newer free hidden objects games might just be what you are looking for. And, even if you don’t normally play games on your computer, you will still like these. There are so many titles and types of these games, so you can rest assured you will find something that fits right in your wheel house.

Consolidating Debts Via Low Interest Credit Cards

by Chris Channing

Debt can make consumers rather desperate in finding help. Credit companies tend to prey on this fact, and offer enticing low rate credit cards in exchange for a consumer’s business. The truth behind this action, however, is that these credit cards can create more debt than they seek to solve. The trick is to weigh the benefits, and call credit companies out on their tricks.

Having a 0% interest credit card sounds intriguing. Indeed, it would solve many debts if all credit companies could offer this to everyone. But in reality, there are limits to how long this lasts, and creditors will raise interest rates to insanely high levels after a certain period of time. With this deceptive tactic, creditors can make their money back from the offer in a very short period of time- and it is completely legal for them to do regardless of morals.

Consumers can benefit from a 0% interest rate card, if they are responsible enough and time permits ample payback options. It can be as lengthy as a year before high interest rates start to kick in, so consumers can switch their debts over to this new credit card and benefit from it if they can pay the debts off before then. Otherwise, they are likely to lose money on the deal and end up paying more.

To get the best deal, and ensure no tricks are imposed, a borrower will need to review every aspect of a contract before signing it. Without researching the contract, borrowers may be subject to hidden fees and deceptive tactics that can put them further into debt than they already are. This is usually best remedied by finding a lawyer or financial consultant to help.

Also note that if one has the simple idea to switch from one low rate interest credit card to another on a repeated basis, this could negatively impact one’s credit rating. Credit companies will see the multiple new credit cards signed up for, and assume the consumer is not being responsible in opening and closing so many accounts. This also becomes less plausible as many contracts will require consumers agree to a minimum length of service agreement.

Going for a low rate or 0% rate credit card isn’t a bad idea- it just takes responsibility for it to work correctly. There are too many factors, rules, and regulations to decipher for most citizens to make an educated decision. If one still wants to go through with the plan, it is highly recommended that the consumer make use of a financial consultant.

In Conclusion

As many borrowers will find throughout their experiences, there are far too many tricks and deceptions in the financial industry. Staying clean from any gimmicks and outright manipulative offers is important when one wishes to stay out of debt. The best advice in this situation is to simply find advice and help in companies and government run institutions that cater to helping the individual- and not from the individual’s wallet.
