Twenty years ago, a home security system was a huge investment. Your only option was hard wiring the property and that had to be done by professionals from the security company. Because it was such a difficult task, even for a normal house, an installation would take at least a day. Fortunately, there are now wireless security systems which are much cheaper and simpler to install.
