QuarkXPress has enjoyed some 15 years of total dominance of the professional page layout software arena. However, it now looks set to become an underdog in a market which is increasingly being dominated by Adobe InDesign and the other programs that make up the Adobe Creative Suite, a software bundle which is rapidly becoming a must-have for any serious graphic design software set-up.

The next in line is a list of four tools that provide ways for the user to fix problems in images. The Spot Healing Brush tool first appeared in Adobe Elements 3. It was implemented into Adobe Photoshop CS2 after that. This tool allows you to fix areas of an image by replacing or blending the colors in an area so that it is like growing a new piece of skin over a bad rash. The Healing Brush tool allows you to fix problems in the image by sampling the surrounding area around the problem and trying to replicate the pattern in the area that is problematic. The patch tool is pretty much a mix of the Healing Brush and the Lasso tool. It is allows you to highlight the area that is scratched or empty and sample the surrounding area to fix the problem. Lastly, the Redeye tool allows you to select the common problem of red eyes and correct them with sampling a piece of the black pupil area and replacing the red eye with the natural pupil color. This is a widely used tool by many consumers.

When generating messages for software users, the general practice is to assemble them at runtime from a library of sub-strings. These truncated strings are nearly impossible to translate with any degree of accuracy. The translated version of the software cannot combine these strings grammatically at runtime. A translation vendor will ask your programmer instead to rewrite these strings into messages which make sense independently.

When Microsoft released Expression Web, a lot of people expected it to be an upgrade to FrontPage 2003. Instead, it turns out to be a very professional web development tool which looks set to be a serious rival to the current market leader, Adobe Dreamweaver CS3. It’s interesting to see Microsoft in the role of underdog for a change but how will their new contender fare?

So what are the mechanics of this “through the lens” shot to achieve the ghosting effect? 1. Stabilize the camera – using a tripod is best, a stable surface is a second option or, a steady hand as a last resort; 2. Set number of multiple exposures you require for the frame to (N) – usually 1 to 9; 3. For the roll of film in your SLR, determine the film speed (S); 4. Reset the camera film speed (Yes, you can override the setting) to (N S) or, if not an exact match, set it to the absolute closest speed ((N S) adjustment); 5. Take your picture, depressing the shutter button for a total count equaling the number of camera exposures you set in step “2”.

For many people, the thought of riding in a hot air balloon may seem like a wonderful way to spend a day. The idea of a delicate lift-off in the relative safety of an over-sized picnic basket with a couple of other people along gives us a sense of calm. We love to watch the colors drift by in the distance and one can only imagine how peaceful it must be to float silently above the earth, as free as a bird at the whim of the winds, and landing who-knows-where at the end of the flight.

New users to Adobe Illustrator often complain that they find the program “fiddly” and frustrating. When we run Adobe training courses, we recognise that part of our job is rid people of this perception of Illustrator as a difficult program to use. We have identified three main elements to making people aware that Illustrator is no more difficult or frustrating than any other program.

Computer software, as we know it today, was first used in the early 1940s. Built in 1943, the Type 19 Synthetic Radar Trainer was a flight simulator built to replicate on-board instrument data for pilots in training. This simple program would lay the framework for educational curriculums across the United States. The Type 19 was not only the beginning of applicable computer software, it was the precursor to the educational uses of computer programs and software worldwide.
