Personal Branding Myth Exposed
Personal branding has become a hot buzz phrase for those in M.O.R. vacations, yet so few even understand what a personal brand is. Most think that if they put up a website with video, they are now a personal brand. Well, I’m sorry it’s much more than that.
In February, 2007 I coached one of MOR Vacations prominent affiliates who wanted to know how I was winning all the sales awards and staying on the top sales list. As much as I’d wanted to share everything I know with him, I could only share that it was about personal branding and that video was the best option to develop that brand. He was just missing one key thing, years of equity required to develop that brand.
When you think about top brands, you think Trump, Oprah, Jordan and Regan. Without saying their whole name, you know I’m talking about Real Estate, TV, Basketball and Communications. How did that happen?? YEARS of building personal brand equity.
Let’s pick on my personal favorite Donald Trump. He didn’t become “The Trumpster”…and you couldn’t “Trump” the competition until there were years of building a reputation. Donald Trump started building his brand when he was a child. He’d follow his father Fred to work, yes real estate. Building with toy blocks in the corner of his Dad’s office
Donald Trump was not the billionaire first, he started out looking to move into Manhattan. He did it slow, but he had big goals. His first project in Manhattan allowed him to turn a burned out hotel into a shiny new gem. Ahh…the reputation that allowed him to goto his next project.
Your reputation is a part of your personal brand. It also takes a track record, and being the first person that comes to mind on a topic. “I’m Everywhere” is something I hear often, and it’s part of my personal brand.
The more you learn about personal branding, the more you’ll see how MOR Vacations affiliates are confused about personal branding. You’ve GOT to be Unique. Yet, each website and message for MOR Vacations is basically the same.
To be successful with personal branding it must be unique, consistent, understandable, focused and you must be able to provide a solution that the market requires. I specialize in marketing for home business owners. In my MOR Vacations business, 80% of my coaching time is spent training my team members to be the best MOR Vacations marketers.
Many have fallen for the Personal Branding, YouTube, and Google Adwords marketing plan. It’s a shame as they are not trying to make a profit from their MOR Vacations business. They have become Just another MOR Vacations affiliate.
