A Guide to Gumball Vending Machines

by Ray Lam

Gumball vending machines are the best known of all vending machines. They are the basis of every vending business because most people get started in this business with one or more gumball machines. This is because they are the cheapest of the machines and they do generate a lot of profit. You can sell giant bubblegum, candy and fun prizes from gumball vending machines.

Most gumball vending machines today are quarter-operated. The great thing about gumball vending machines is that they do not require any electricity for keeping cool or for accepting coins and dollars. Anyone can afford to buy a gumball machine. They start at $50, and even the most elaborate ones are usually not more than a few hundred. The exception is if you choose to go with a huge vending machine kiosk that includes gumballs but also candy, stickers, toys, and other quick impulse items. Those are widely available as well.

Kids are the main targets to a gumball vending machine, so placing vending machines in locations where kids go is a major factor in increasing your revenue and developing a profitable vending machine business.

They can be customized to hold one, two, three, or more gumball vending machines. They can be adjusted to face all directions (perfect for central locations) or they can be adjusted to fit into a corner, with all of the machines facing forward.

One of the major factors that can bring you trouble is direct sunlight. Having your gumball vending machine put straight into the sunlight can affect the quality of the gum not to mention the color that will slowly fade away. So, in order to protect your vending machine business, make sure you place your gumball vending machines in a shady cool place for the durability and good maintenance of the quality of the gumballs.

Paying a commission fee to the owner of the store you place your vending machine in, is a must. Usually, you will have to pay a fixed commission. But in many cases the commission is based on the sales, and has to do with the percentage of your sales. Most store owners will only charge you a small fee, because a vending machine is a good advertising source for them as well. Especially, if you have invested in a gumball vending machine, the commission is not highly rated, since the machine itself doesn’t take much space. Though, make no mistake: paying commission is a basic in vending.
