Defining the Auto University

I don’t know if Zig Ziglar was the first to coin the phrase “Auto University”, but he’s definitely one of the strongest proponents of it. In fact, he claims, “It’s the most important university in America.” I agree with him.

When you’re learning in your car, you’re attending Auto University. All that is required is a car and some sort of learning audio program that you can listen to.

Is Auto University for you?

If you’re like a lot of Americans, much of your commute time is spent listening to music or other programs. While their entertainment value may be high, they’ll have no effect on your long-term success.

If you’re interested in a mediocre life, then the Auto University is not for you - keep listening to the mind-numbing drivel spewing from most of America’s airwaves.

So if you want to join the highest ranks of your profession, start your own collection of motivational and skills-oriented CDs or tapes.

When Should You Listen to These Programs?

Just like a regular school class, you should plan on listening at a regular time everyday. For most people, this is on their daily morning and afternoon commutes.

IBM just released a study that shows that “45% of all drivers surveyed report traffic congestion increases their stress levels”. You could lose some of that stress by concentrating on learning something that will have a positive impact on your life.

If you’re a sales professional, you should be listening in between each and every sales call. Can you imagine how much more successful you would be if after every call you listened to a tape about the skill you needed to improve? If you’re having trouble closing, listen to a sales training program on closing.

Just think, you could potentially learn a new skill in between appointments that could help you close that next deal. That would be well worth the price of admission into the Auto University. Listen to the programs until you have them memorized. Then your responses in a given situation will be automatic, because the programs will have been completely assimilated.

Excellent audio programs abound. However, I would start with the best. Start with known success coaches: Zig Ziglar, Brian Tracy, Earl Nightingale, Denis Waitley, Jay Abraham, Tony Robbins, Napoleon Hill, or Jim Rohn.
